This will be a pretty short topic, but a little research from you guys and/or if you already know, you'd understand. I HONESTLY WISHED I HAD WINDOWS 7 FOR THE WHOLE TIME. I love Windows 7, it's much simpler than XP, BUT... I heard and saw that Windows XP was going to become obsolete by the month of APRIL in year 2013. I know, this may seem like "oh, that's going to be a while. Why worry?" But, for a person that does not earn that much money, it is a problem for me and others could probably relate. It's bad enough I can't go on certain websites. Once XP becomes obsolete, I'm going to have to get a new PC or upgrade so I am able to update XP. I was wondering if others had heard of this calamity. I'm pretty poor so I would have to save money and all that stuff...

First, post some source material. Second, they won't make XP obsolete. You're being trolled quite badly by someone and rather than feed the flames, I'm being nice and telling you that this won't happen. If they make XP obsolete would it not stand to reason that 95, 98 SE, ME and 2000 would have kicked the bucket long ago? Nope, they're still going strong in places. So don't be thick, and think about it for a moment Microsoft won't shoot themselves in the foot, it'd cause a massive shitstorm if they tried it.

I would like to point out that it's been five years since Vista came out, and three years since 7. XP itself has been around for almost ELEVEN years now, and it also doesn't support IPv6 at all. IMO it's a good thing if they start actively phasing out XP, but even if they don't the internet itself will do it for them. |

By 'obsolete,' you mean... what, exactly? They will stop making new Windows updates for it eventually, leading to various security holes, to the point XP will become less and less safe to use, if that's what you mean. It's not like on April 1, 2013 your Windows XP computer will just stop working. Microsoft simply won't provide support for it anymore. |

No, I'm not saying obsolete by JUST STOP WORKING. I meant by like what you said...updates will stop and yeah, it will become less safe. @Telnaior: You're right. Being more than a decade old, it would eventually start phasing out. @MoD: "This will be a pretty short topic, but a little research from you guys and/or if you already know, you'd understand." As I look at it now, it is POSSIBLE that it could've been misleading or non-credible. But yeah, being that Vista and 7 have risen above XP, it's still likely to happen that Microsoft will stop having updates for XP. Like Telnaior said, it's ELEVEN years old. It's highly likely that they're going to stop updating it. XP may be going strong, but it's slowly going down so Microsoft wouldn't really be shooting themselves in the foot. But yeah, hearing from you and the two others, I'm in between now. IT COULD HAPPEN, IT COULD NOT, BUT EVENTUALLY WILL. |

Windows XP support will be ending in April 2014, which i think out of all the windows operating systems is the longest time a version has been used/supported. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/endofsupport.aspx At a guess though, i would imagine due to the amount of business users this is the reason why it's continued to go on for so long. Stability, and general ease of use etc.. makes it worthwhile. I came back from Egypt on Friday and walking through Manchester airport all the screen savers were XP. Why change something that isn't broke? When the time comes it's a very expensive procedure, so keep going till the last minute and be forced to change. I still use it, but eventually will go to 7, although i have it on my laptop and like it just can't be bothered reformatting the hard drive again! |

Oh...damn, never mind. I had no clue that it was 2014. The person that told me this said it was April of next year. |
