Okay, to start out, I am not sure if a topic like this was made already, but I don't see it so I shall post it. I saw this in my Game Informer so I did some research and looked at things from the Game Informer to support my research. Okay, I read an article of a GI magazine I got about a day ago. It's a possible new gaming console, and it's called Ouya. I'm not...exactly sure when it would be released. It says March 2013 (KS Preorder) April 2013 (Retail), but yeah, not so sure. Here's some links... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console http://www.ouya.tv/ NOW FOR SOME FEATURES AND THE INSIDE LOOK OF THE CONSOLE!!! Console...
Controller...
OS and Software...
Now, for the games for the system, I saw in the GI article that there were a couple endorsers like Thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen (Journey, Flower) and Mojang (Minecraft). Gearbox Software president Randy Pichford says if Ouya succeeds, he'd love to develop for the audience. "It would be interesting to see Borderlands on the platform," he says. "We've done some work with the chipset through a great relationship with with Nvidia. I think it could work out well." Jeremiah Slaczka of Scribblenauts developer 5th Cell, says he'd consider supporting Ouya if his studio already had an Android game made, but wouldn't create a game specifically for Ouya until it's proven to be a viable market. "I think Ouya is a lot more pipe dream than game changer," Slaczka says. "Even if they manage to nail down their manufacturing, hardware shipping, digital distribution portal, and buisness models they are still, at best, offering a niche product, which will likely launch with ported software from tablets while competing with existing and future consoles." Now, there's only a few things that interest me about this console. Problem is, only a few interest me. The gaming system isn't unique at all. It has almost everything an Xbox and PS3 would have. There's some features that those consoles do not have. But overall, it's a knock-off console of other consoles. Kind of like that Dr. Thunder [Cheap Dr. Pepper] or Mountain Lightning [Cheap Mtn. Dew] you would see at convenient stores or mini marts. NOT TO MENTION THAT THIS SYSTEM ALREADY HAS MORE FLAWS THAN MERITS IN THE FIRST PLACE. THERE'S A LOT OF CEO'S OF COMPANIES, DESIGNERS, CRITICS OVERALL THAT DON'T BELIEVE IT WOULDN'T MAKE MARKET. Dan Teasdale [Lead Designer of Twisted Pixel] doesn't believe the hype. He said he'd rather target Steam Greenlight or Xbox Live Indie Games both, even with their faults, far healthier platforms for developers to get their start and make money off their games than Ouya. Now, it is not a definite that this system is going to come out. Analyst of Wedbush Securities Michael Pachter believes it has no chance of supplanting the traditional game consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. He also thinks that the Ouya is just a cheaper alternative to other consoles. Even though it has many negatives, and not that much positives [What I said through the descriptions were just a few quotes and opinions. Not all from what I read], Slaczka agrees with the negative feedback, but he says it's a noble effort and he's excited for the company's lofty goals. =Credit: Jim Reilly= Early Mock-up images of the console and controller. {Listen, I'm not good at providing detailed or any sort of information so if you have questions, either search it up or ask me so I can search it up or look at the GI article.} |

the ouya seems like a good idea, I'd wait for it to get more hype, but the only thing they should improve on is the name, what I mean is, why on earth would they call a new game console the "Ouya"? it sounds like oujia, as in oujia boards... |

Yeah, I was confused of the name too. It probably stands for something that I did not point out at all. But, the four letters do, in fact, look pretty awesome on the controller buttons. |

Haha. ^v^ I honestly don't like this platform at all really. The reason why I'm borderline into buying it when it comes out [I'm not pre-ordering that shit...] is because it's only a concept and not the actual features. They might alter it and remove shit and put some actual UNIQUE shit to it. I agree to MoD's sarcasm 100% though. |

It's crazy. I heard Google was coming out with apps that can be used OFFLINE! But really, I AM interested in this. Mostly because it's open-source and hackable. But also because it's cheap. Edited by Fwiss, Aug 12 2012, 06:00 AM.
