I like both, but I prefer the new ones. But this is in the completely wrong place. ~Moved. |

Hard to say. I like both, but my favourite games have all been released after the transition into 3D, so I guess 'new' is the better answer for me. xD |

New. Nothing against the classics or anything--they're fun, I just absolutely suck at them. xD; |

To be honest, that's part of what swayed my answer too. xD But, that applies to 2D games in general for me. Other than possibly Advance 1. I'm decent at that. |

=SB= Sonic Logic Theorist.

I love both as well, Modern has the high-speed action that is awesome to watch (KAKIPI's speedruns come to mind) as well as fun to play, while Classic has the awesome platforming and tight physics. It'd be impossible for me to just choose one or the other. |

If you want my honest opinion about the "mordern" gameplay, I say either go back to the way Unleashed did it or get rid of the formula and go back to platforming. The point of Unleashed, from my perspective, was to build up speed and maintain it without flying off a cliff, and was very trial-and-error based, and I thoroughly enjoyed it because of this. This is part of the reason why Unleashed is my favorite game--it stood out. Nowadays Sonic Team is trying to incorporate more platforming into the levels, which to me completely ruins the feel of it. Colors and Generations were still fun little games, but I think they would have been better with Adventure-style controls. |

You know, I'm actually pretty inclined to agree. xD I only really experienced the PS2 version of Unleashed, but the day stage gameplay was really good. Colours is one of my favourite games, and I enjoyed it completely, but less platforming suits me just fine. Platforming works for the 2D games, but speed-based trial and error sounds more fitting for the 3D games overall. |

And it's not like there's anything wrong with going fast and platforming, it's just that in Colors and Gens as well as the games before Unleashed you were rarely put into a situation where you had to watch where you ran. Roads were usually lined at the sides to make sure you didn't fall. Unleashed had more situations where if you took a wrong turn or reacted to late or to soon you'd go plunging to your death. 'Tis what made it challenging, and it's what the games that came after are lacking. People are just afraid of difficulty. :/ |

Well, to be fair, some of the Planet Wisp stages in Colours had circumstances like that. But, usually you wouldn't really fall to your death, instead you'd usually land on a lower path. But, yeah. xD Colours had it a bit. I can't really recall anything like that in Generations, though. |

Crisis City Act 2 in Gens also had that take-a-wrong-turn-and-no-more-shortcut thing in the place of its mach speed section near the end of it, but yeah. Not really as hair-raising as plummeting straight into the inferno if you missed. |

And thus this thread has touched on to one of the many, many reasons I love Unleashed; It was actually challenging. |

To be completely honest, my biggest complaint with Unleashed was over the story. xD; It's hard to pinpoint exactly why, but I really didn't like it. Chip annoyed me, the Werehog thing had so much potential that was ignored, and the Dark/Light Gaia thing that the story revolved around always struck me as somehow being extremely over-the-top, even when compared with things like Chaos, the Biolizard, and Solaris. But, yeah. xD My experience with the game, other than the plot, was generally positive. It wasn't the greatest game I played in the series, but I played the PS2 version and everything I can find out about the game tells me that it was a vastly weaker experience than the PS3/360 version. |

Hey now Chip was great. :< The only thing that annoyed me was how you had to stop moving whenever he spoke, but that was more the game's fault. Anyway this is starting to turn into an Unleashed thread...|D; |

I prefer the classics though I've got nothing against the newer games. I've grown up on the classics so maybe that may be what mostly contributes to my answer. However I can't say I didn't like the new games, the only modern gen game I didn't really like was Unleashed. I found it to be rather dull and I most definitely didn't like the werehog, that practically killed it for me. No offense.
