Break out the L-word. The other L-word.

This topic's been done before, but the last one was lasted posted in in 2010, so yeah. Here you go. Me, personally, I'm a pantheist/ Einsteinian religion. I like to think that, as Carl Sagan brilliantly said, "The cosmos is also within us; we're made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." We give, with our consciousness, life and self-awareness to the universe, and the universe gave to us the matter and laws of nature for such consciousness to arise within it. In other words, we are in the universe, and the universe is in us. I'm eager to see what others think or believe, and hopefully we can constructively discuss it. ^_^ |

I have to agree. Regardless of how much you do not respect or even loathe a side, it is still important to remain courteous. Also, what religions would fall under the Other category? I find it interesting that the range on this board is a little more varied than I thought it would be. |

First of all, I'm just going to preface this with the statement: I didn't vote. xD Before getting into my stance religiously, I'm going to talk about my philosophical stance a bit. For the most part, I can be described as Objectivist, but aspects of Platonism and Taoism are agreeable to me as well. I like Buddhism, but I can't say it truly effects my philosophical stance at all. Now, with that said, I believe that everyone may believe what they want to believe. It's not my place to say that their religious or philosophical stance is wrong; the only time I would do so is if their religious/philosophical view promotes death or the causing of death. If one promotes the concept of an afterlife, I take literally no issue. But, promoting death or the causing of it as a philosophical/religious stance, I can't agree with. But, that does not mean I think there are literally no circumstances where killing is acceptable. Self defense, or the defense of others, or in the interest of justice with the backing of those who may determine justice (the judge and jury, so to speak), for example of when I do view it as acceptable. Revenge, while I can sympathize with the motivation, I do not support. Life, and what one does with life, is what I philosophically view as being of the highest value. Being able to see and admit to the truth when it is presented is very high on the list as well. With that done, I will now state my religious position. I am Christian, however I do not believe the Bible is word-for-word accurate. For example, I am inclined to believe that evolution is true, and I have no true opinion on the dawn of the universe. As another example: the Bible is anti-homosexual in places in the Old Testament, yet I am not anti-homosexual at all. I am also mildly Agnostic, and I believe that if absolute evidence is revealed in either direction, I will either be strengthened in my religious stance or be forced to abandon it because it is false. We all make choices. But in the end, our choices make us

Ugh this topic again? Well Im bored so what the hell. I truly don't classify myself as anything. I do believe that there is some sort of deity out there somewhere but I believe its impossible to know who he/she truly is, what they're about, and what their true intentions are. The bible? Please. How can people live their lives based on some book written by who knows who? Its been wishy washy with me but all in all I do believe there is someone out there but all the religion, texts, rules and stories are just bull. We will probably never know the truth. Its just impossible. |
