The thing is Nintendo is being way too "safe."
This. This so much.

It's like Nintendo isn't even trying to make it remotely refreshing, nope. Just the same old concept over and over again; same music, same enemies, same bosses. The princess gets kidnapped, Mario saves her, end of story. It's true that the story shouldn't matter much but it becomes tedious after awhile. I get that they want to give the player the nostalgic feeling, but doing that 3 games in a row is a bit too much.

To be frank, I'm done with Mario. It used to be fun, but now it's not even worth getting his newer games because nothing exciting or fun happens in it. It's sad really, Mario used to be one of my favorite franchises. It's just getting so milked.

Although I don't mind games like Mario Sunshine or Galaxy, because they are refreshing.
And definitely this. I agree with this comment 100%.

I disagree, I don't mind about the plot of each and every mario game, besides, have you seen the plot of mario and luigi: partners in time? that has a similar plot to the normal plot of bowser kidnapping peach, except this time peach goes through time and gets kidnapped by princess shroob, so sometimes it's twisting the old plot around to make something interesting.

But that just doesn't happen anymore. It happened once and it was very good. Now it has returned back to that same old Mario rescues Princess from Bowser who is in a castle story.

Tell me, are you considering the games simply the same because Mario doesn't change up its story? Story is just not a focal point for the Mario games, it's more of the platforming, and it's unlikely going to be any different. And don't tell me it doesn't bother to add any changes to the formula(At least for the 3D games. You could make a case for the New Super Mario Bros. games), the console entries add features and updates like most franchises out there. Pretty much what Eevee said.

Nintendo has philosophies against adding anything that won't add to gameplay. If they change the story, it must affect the gameplay in some fashion or it won't be approved. Shigeru Miyamato was very upset when he found out other developers snuck the Rosalina stories into the first Galaxy game.

Miyamato isn't involved in the New Super Mario Bros. series, though. I don't even think he'd go for something this stale to be honest.

That said, as stale as the new games feel, they're still really fun from a gameplay perspective. I just wish there'd be some new level styles and music...

I always did want to give Sunshine a try. I played it once and found the F.L.U.D.D. aspect pretty cool, but I never got to actually owning it.

I object to your claims
To be fair, Sonic kinda suffers from the same thing. Most of the time, the basic plot is 'Eggman is taking over the world and Sonic must stop him'. And most of that time, the Chaos Emeralds are involved in some fashion, even if it's just to get the 'good' ending in the classics. And let's not forget how every main game from Adventure to Unleashed had a giant 'monster of the week' as the final boss. Yeah, I think the Sonic stories are fleshed out a little better than Mario's, but the series still reuses plot points as well.

And I think Sunshine has my favorite storyline of the main series. I mean, how often do you see Mario being treated like the villain? In other games, the characters are all like 'yay, it's Mario, we're saved!' as soon as they meet him. In Sunshine, he actually had to earn the trust from the Piantas, which I thought was a nice little twist.

Oh yeah, that's certainly true. Sonic does have its fair share of reused plot elements. xD Still, it's not so bad as with Mario. Mario is usually simply just those reused elements, possibly with a slight twist thrown in. Sometimes, it's a bit more of a twist, but often it's very slight.

But, with Sonic, despite the fact that it reuses plot elements, the games actually do have a plot which differs enough between games enough that I can distinguish one from the other by its plot alone. The only real example which I can think of that this works for with the Mario games that I've played is probably Galaxy, and even then that's only because of Rosalina.

So, yeah. xD While Sonic does have reused elements in his stories, he at least has stories that are distinguishable from one another.

But, to be fair, I've never really had any expectations for storyline from Mario, so I haven't ever really been disappointed by the repeated plot. Galaxy was unique in its own right for having Rosalina and her backstory, and to be honest that's actually more than I would have ever asked for in a Mario game. It was pretty impressive by Mario standards, among the games that I've played.

Quite, it doesn't help when companies forsake new things for something that is tried and true.

We all make choices. But in the end, our choices make us
I pretty much thank the Mario franchise for introducing me to gaming in general. I know a lot of people say this but I might not be the gamer I am today if it wasn't for him. He was my first video game ever for crying out loud!

Two words. Paper Mario. End of story. Paper Mario and its sequel The Thousand Year Door are two of the greatest RPGs Ive ever played.

I can't give Nintendo that much of a hard time because I truly do see them trying different things and I love how they truly listen to their fans. They seem like such a loyal and kind group of people and they make great games IMO.

Its crazy to say that they never try anything new. Super Mario Sunshine? Luigi's Mansion? Wario Ware? Cmon. Although the main platforming Mario games are losing their flare, Nintendo doesn't deserve to be chewed up like that. We could point that kind of finger at a lot of other developers.

Hmm. Plays the same, eh? Then by that logic, just about everything that isn't entirely new is boring. Mario isn't the onlyfranchise to do this. Though to varying degrees, all franchises do this in the mainstream, and in some spin-off titles. You did mention Mario, but there's also Sonic, Metroid, Kirby, Zelda, Pokémon, Digimon, Final Fantasy, Katamari Damacy, Megaman, Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom...just about any game series you can think of, almost all games will have some form of familiarity to the original title that started it all, be it the characters, gameplay, story, or the overused cliches utilized to bring the heroes to action. Hell, Animal Crossing is essentially Harvest Moon without the farming and marriage. Live a life, interact with friends, make money, get a bigger house, buy furniture, eventually put your character to bed and go to sleep in real life. I'm not trying to say that the games aren't getting worn, but they're not worse-for-wear.

If it was end of story, why did you continue? XD

Just kidding, but yeah, I loved Paper Mario, even though I had a incident which was completely my fault. It was at Boos mansion and I didn't know where the boo town was, so I left the forest(Fighting...Morton Jr. was it?) and was lost for some time...until I read a guide and found out where the boo town really was...which was right next to the mansion.

I was a special child :>

The sequel though was by far more my favorite. Better graphics, better(Even if rather similar) story, better music, and better characters(And partners).

Super Paper Mario though...I may want to replay the game myself, since I recalled liking it, but stopping cause I was stuck in a spot. Though it was also really weird.

As for Nintendo, the thing is they have tried something new, its just they aren't doing it very much. I'm not saying each game needs to be radically different(Speaking of which, where is my new Wario Ware game Nintendo? >:() and they are going to release Luigi's Mansion 2 soon.

My complaint is mostly when they do something like New Super Mario Bros. Thankfully, they are finally using the Koopa Kids again(If only they would get rid of Bowser Jr....) but I really think for the Wii U they really should make a new Mario game that isn't 2D focused to show off the capabilities of their new system. And the New Super Mario Bros 2 for 3ds seems to give up trying to us the 3d gimmick(Or at least unlike Super Mario Land 3D).

You have a fair point about Nintendo trying things that are new, its just lately they seemed really focused on old school gaming.
