What If... A Sonic Tactics Game?

I'll be there every step of the way...
Just a random thought.
Think about having units on a Green Hill Zone board; Eggman's badniks on one end, Sonic and pals and some flickies on the other end.
Then you play it kinda like Chess... Or Fire Emblem.
But I guess that wouldn't leave any room for making the game feel speedy, though...
Or would it?
What if it was really fast paced, and encountering an enemy threw you seamlessly into a platforming segment where you had to, maybe, get to the end of an area within 10 or 15 seconds and destroy the badnik to advance or something.
Or maybe that ruins a lot of the strategy.
But really, think about it.
It wouldn't be impossible to make a good game out of it.

Considering strategy games are basically my bread and butter(Many of my favorite games being Rise of Nations, Devil Survivor, Civilization series, 4x games like Masters of Orion, oh and Advance Wars), yeah, I would buy that. I would buy it and three more copies.

I'm more in favor of something Disgaea-esque. Having a bunch of units and interacting with your allies and the environment to defeat enemies in an efficient and strategic manner.

I think that's just my massive love for Disgaea seeping into the topic tho'. |V Still, I do loves me some Disgaeas...

Yeah, it'd have to be more like Disgaea or Fire Emblem to work well, I reckon. A full-fledged RTS would be a nightmare to handle, and besides, while Robotnik's banik army is fair enough, I just don't see Sonic and pals sending out waves of expendable troops.

How about... instead of having player turns, each individual unit has a turn? Every time a unit's turn comes up, they have a certain amount of time (say 10-30 seconds) to move and attack on the field before it swaps to the next unit's turn. It'd be somewhat like a mix between the Worms games and Resonance of Fate in that manner. This way, there's still an element of speed, but the turn-based tactics still exist.

You should also be able to attack and move at the same time, like in the normal Sonic games; movement and attacks could build up a Momentum meter which increases damage, but slowing down or taking damage from hazards or Overwatching units would reduce it, as well as wasting precious turn time.

I dunno, that's just some ideas.

Understandable, though I figure in this case, Sonic and friends would have the aid of either Mobian/Fur friends in combat gear and such, or GUN units to help them out, while Sonic and friends mostly acted as special/hero units.

I dunno, man; I'd fel bad about sending cute little woodland critters to their deaths in droves, watching them hurl themselves towards a wall of steel and laser fire from on high like some omnipotent god forsaking his children...

Humans are fine though.

Those who do good, do...
sounds like a good idea, if it is funded, I just hope they put some classic characters on there, like mighty and lumina, and maybe put some characters from unreleased games in it, like the princess that was going to be a main character in the unreleased game "Sonic doom", but never appeared again until one of the scenes in the archie comics sonic...

There will always be casualties, it just pays to ensure the death toll list is in your favor. If the weak, expendable infantry must die to ensure the strength and well being of the stronger, more damaging units than so be it. They give their blood to the Blood god and die in the name of the gods of CHAOS!*Coughs coughs*

Er, sorry, the Chaos lord in me took over. Don't worry about the little critters though, I'm sure they will be alright.

If not that's what reserves are for.
