1st Annual =SB= Badnik Design Contest

Overview:

Hey good people of Sonic Blast, it’s your old pal Blaire here with a very special message. But first, a quick question. We all know that Sonic games have been home to some rather colorful and creative enemies, often called ‘Badniks’ in the classic era. But didn’t you ever, at one point, think that you could create a badnik that would be good enough for the games? That if you were called upon to design all the robots for the next Sonic game you could come up with something awesome?

Well, I’m here to announce a way for you to channel that creativity right here on =SB=. Allow me to welcome you all to the 1st Annual =SB= Badnik Design Contest!

The premise of this competition should be pretty clear – using your artistic skills, design a robot that looks like it could belong in a Sonic game. Simple, is it not? It can be something akin to the goofy-looking enemies from the classic games that were powered by small animals, or similar to the more realistic robots from some of the modern titles, though even the modern enemies have a very slight cartoon aspect about them. It’s your call.

Rules:

1: You are allowed to use any artistic medium available to you, whether it be drawing, spriting, use of Photoshop, using computer-generated imagery, origami, whatever you wish.

2: You may only submit one Badnik for the contest. However, if you have already submitted one and would like to submit a different one, I will allow you to replace the first submission. Also, all submissions must be PMed to me.

3: As I mentioned before, spriting is allowed, but recolors will not be accepted. Also, if I find out someone has stolen artwork and is claiming it is theirs, it will be an instant disqualification.

4: Nothing vulgar, offensive, inflammatory, etc. Please remember that Sonic is a kids’ franchise.

5: Follow all other Sonic Blast rules. I don’t think I need to go into much detail. Or at least, I certainly hope I don’t. xP

6: Have fun. There’s not much more I need to say about this one. xD

The Process:

Basically, the contest will work in this fashion;

-You will have until December 15th to submit your entries to me.

-When you submit a badnik, I ask that you use this template;

Code:

[b]Image:[/b]

[b]Name:[/b]

[b]Description:[/b]

Image: (The picture of your badnik.)

Name: (What is the name of your badnik. Should be self-explanatory, really.)

Description: (A short, paragraph-long description on how your badnik is supposed to go about beating Sonic. Does it ram into him? Shot bolts of lightning to stop him in his tracks? The world’s your oyster here!

-The members of =SB= will vote on which badnik they like best. Voting will take place in a separate topic. The badnik with the most votes, put simply, wins, and will get a special banner designed by me. And, if we get enough entries, I’ll also give out second and third place prizes. Now wouldn’t that be nice? ^_^

And speaking of which, the banners will look something like this;

Now this is just a template to show you guys the layout of the banner; the final one(s) won't look quite like this. In fact, I am giving the winner(s) the option to customize their banners, in a sense. You can decide on the following things;

-The character can be any major robot from the Sonic games. So the likes of Metal Sonic, Gamma, Omega, Emerl, Orbot...basically if they've been a fairly major part of at least one Sonic game, or the comics or tv shows, they're fair game

-Text can be any color, though I may add a different colored stroke around it if it gets hard to see amidst the background. Otherwise, the stroke'll white, as you can see above.

-Background can be any stage you want from the series.

So, let’s see what the good folks of =SB= are capable of creating. Go to it. ;)

Question.
Is it just Badniks from the games or could you design something to fit into say Satam or the comics too?

Hmm, perhaps you should tier it into single-hit badniks and stronger ones (Minibosses)?
Just sayin'.
Funfax: RIFT, my original avatar, was meant to be a badnik early in the design process.
On a more related note, would pencil art be acceptable?
Because I can't color for my life.

Actually, when I had this contest in mind, I wasn't thinking about mini-bosses at all. I was just thinking about the robots that basically patrol the levels. ^^;; But if this contest is successful enough, I might make other contests for mini-bosses and such. That'd be cool.

And yes, pencil art is perfectly acceptable. ;)

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
Wow, I am no artist, but this has definitely caught my eye. I do say, I want to take a crack at it, if I may. Also, I may or may not get to the deadline in time, so don't count on me 100%.

Bumping this to see if it garners more attention, as I've only gotten one entry as of now.

Come on people, show me what you're capable of!

Just you wait. I've got a gem brewing in my noggin as we speak.
The rose tinted glasses of nostalgia often hide the stupidity of prior made statements. Nothing brings this revelation about as clearly as revisiting old posts...

Do we post our badniks here, or PM them to you? (Likely a dumb question.)
I have an interest in spriting. If anyone has a request, don't hesitate to ask.
