The Female Ultimate Life Form!

We haven't had an SU post in a couple months and I thought I'd use it to test the waters.![]() This topic is intended to be more focused on this latest issue, but considering we've had a gap from some SU issues, I will be fine with discussion of the last ~4 issues. The Secret Freedom Arc will span issues 41-44 and deals with, as if the name wasn't a giveaway, a secret team of freedom fighters who are keeping close watch at home on Ixis Naugus, while Sonic and the few remaining Freedom Fighters deal with Eggman. I enjoy this arc thus far, considering we see some old faces (some of them I don't recall despite having most of the old issues). Although the SU arcs are becoming heavily entwined with the Archie Comics. Spoiler: click to toggle

About time someone other than me made one of these threads, frankly I was getting fed up of hardly any discussion going on ![]() On that note, I'm surprised you chose SU #42, it's not out yet for another 2 weeks? ![]() I personally think the way Archie is intertwining the two comics is pretty shitty. Most of #41 made no sense until I read the end story on #238. Such as who was one of the characters hidden in your spoiler? It's nicely done but at the same time if you only have any interest in reading one or the other, it's a lame way to try and get you to buy both. Yes, Archie is a business but come on... |

I actually just got my issue in the mail and apparently whoever delivered the mail accidentally gave me issues for other people. XP I myself was actually completely lost with the first issue of 41, regarding all the references they had. It was only until 238 that I understood part of what was going on, considering Larry and Shard both share their full stories in the standard comic line. I would like if they strayed back to their original intent with the comic, or at least if it has references to the other, make it a little less mandatory to know the story for the other. If I choose to only read SU, I should be able to and vice versa. Right now the heavy references between one and the other is a complete mess. The transition of references is smoother in issue 42, because the second part of team was already mentioned but the amount of yellow boxes telling me about StH issue # or SU # is getting ridiculous. It's still a nice story overall. I like the whole secret agent thing going on right now. |

Yanno, I don't read the comics, but personally I think the fact that one needs to read both in order to fully understand what's going on is stupid. I mean, when Archie had the Knuckles series several years back, did you have to buy one comic in order to understand what was going on in the other? Spoiler: click to toggle

I started with the Knuckles comics when I was a little kid. If my memory serves right, there was hardly any reason to need the other comic. In fact, Sonic was sort of doing his own thing in Knothole, while Knuckles was dealing with things on Angel Island and Downunda. They had their times when Sonic and Knuckles crossed paths, but really you may have just needed one or two author's notes and you could manage to get by. Another point, but very similar to crossovers, would be when the Knuckles comic went down the toilet and ended its run. Knuckles storyline was then written in a set of mini-stories until they fully blended both comics together. There may have (I'm sure there were) been notes about what was going on there too, but nothing to the point where you perhaps had to go try and hunt down the comics. When the Sonic Universe series first began it was as the title said. It was more about the other characters in the universe and expanding the universe, special character arcs that expanded stories to characters and blended them more with Archie Canon. The first SU arc featured Shadow for example and his relations with G.U.N. It was also the first appearance of Blaze and Marine and gave us a nod to how Sonic Rush fits into Archie canon. More recent arcs, I'd say right around the point of issue 30, is where things started to get intertwined. You needed to know a bit about what was happen in another arc, then it became a bit more mandatory and with this current arc, there's really no way you could go without either material. As I said, the first issue had me scratch my head a bit because two of the members of the freedom fighter team have their initiations in the main comic. They make mentions of it, but by this time they are doing covert missions. The SU 41 issue was quite a jump ahead. And also, there are quite a few versions of metal sonic. The one currently in this issue Spoiler: click to toggle

Then why the hell would they even change that if their original intention was for the two comics to be more or less separate. I mean, I really liked the whole idea of Sonic Universe, as it allowed some the secondary characters their own time in the spotlight without being overshadowed by the main cast but I think it would be more effective to keep the two comics separate, with just slight references to each other. Don't make it pretty much mandatory to read both of them to understand the events going on.=/

I agree to this. I've been laying off the comics lately. For one thing, I have a shit load. But, I do love Elias so I might check this one out. But still, I agree with Blaire. I'd rather have them separated. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. But short of complaining to Archie about it(either to them or somewhere they're likely to see it) I highly doubt it'll happen any time soon.. Could be as SSG said with the Knuckles books. Maybe they're trying to link the two up again so that they can stop publishing SU, and if they do it'll be a shame. All they need to do is go back to how it used to be; more Treasure Team Tango please! |

But there are several dozen characters that haven't got their time in the spot light.... =< (I should actually go and read these comics. )
