I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet. Yesterday marked the beginning of the Steam Summer Sale! From now until the 22nd, expect tons of games and special game bundles to be on sale all day, every day!

Time to bust out your wallets and become poor!

Steam summer sale starts now

In the PC-gaming world, one sale each year electrifies the community to spend, spend, and spend some more: the Steam summer sale.

Aside from thousands of discounted games, some interesting bundles and featured offers appear right up a spendthrift's alley. The summer sale offers daily deals, multiple random flash sales, and a unique community choice vote where voters choose on the next heavily discounted game (which revolves every eight hours).

The first day of Steam's event offers discounts on major games, such as the PC version of Portal 2 for $4 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for $29. A series of $49 pack deals from major gaming software studios also appear enticing; many packages -- promising to save buyers hundreds of dollars -- come from big players such as Valve, id software, Sega, Bethesda, Rockstar, Ubisoft, and more.

Those looking to score a deal on specific games may benefit from patience. Ohball, a commenter on the link-sharing Web site Reddit (and a seasoned Steam summer sale observer) suggests that "if it is not one of the daily deals, do not buy it until the last day of the sale. The sale price will only go down, and many games are given an extra discount on the last day. You never know if you'll miss out on a 75 percent off because you were impatient."

The massive influx of visitors to Steam's biggest sale already caused problems today, as some users mingled with this error message: "The Steam Store is experiencing some heavy load right now. Please try again later."

This year has tons of sales! There's flash sales that last only a short duration, there's even user picked sales where you can decide what Steam will cut prices on next. Sales have been as high 60-75%!

So, if you've had your eyes on some games, now might be the time to get 'em!

EDIT: It also appears that there are "achievements" to do this year relating to the sale. There has been no news about whether they will play an important role or not, but it might be a good idea to do them. You might wind free stuffs!

Break out the L-word. The other L-word.
They have entire Activision, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Square Enix, Eidos, Rockstar, Sega, etcetera collections for fifty USD a piece, people. This is INSANE.

Too bad I'm broke. :c

Also, Legend of Grimrock is on sale for $6 today. And I don't have the money for even that. :c

Grabbed a collection, and I don't get paid until the 20th, but that money has to go towards bills, so I guess I'll have to settle.

Bought two collections, and I can't stop buying stuff. Ahahahahaha....

Bought Penumbra collection, some indie bundle collection, and some other small games. Too bad some of these collections can't be for Mac.

I have had yet to buy anything really. I was gifted Binding of Isaac DLC by my bf and that's pretty much it.

I was thinking of buying Sonic 4 Ep 2, and maybe 1. I've never played them. I'm not sure though yet.

I'll probably buy a couple things later today, I have a little money to play with.

EDIT: There are apparently cheeves to do this year too. I updated the first post about it. No info on their purpose yet.

Got Psychonauts for $2.50. Good thing I decided to wait to buy it a couple months ago.
