I object to your claims
Disclaimer: I do not own the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise or any official work associated with it. That all belongs to SEGA.

AN: This is the first in a multi-part series designed as a retelling of the games. It will span across most, if not all of the main series games, as well as some of the handheld titles. The basic plots will remain the same as they were, but with extra development of both the storyline and the characters within, so it won't be a direct copy and paste of the games. I will also admit to explain a few things that have me and other fans stumped, such as why there were only six Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1.

So, without further ado, enjoy!

Prologue:

Where there is history, there are legends. Fables told to entertain, to make one think, to mystify. They are passed down from person to person in a multitude of fashions ranging from the use of speaking to the stories traveling across paper through pen strokes. Knowledge is fed through these legends, but one must ask just how much of this knowledge is real. How much of an exaggeration, how much of a lie, these legends really are. Are they really just simple stories for people to share amongst one another?

Or, are any of these fables facts?

Well, as will be discovered in due time, some of them...are.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
The room was dimly lit, the only source of illumination being a flickering ceiling lamp that rocked precariously back and forth. The walls were a bland dark, steel gray, only adding to the tone of the small room. However, blandness was not the main theme of the hour. For all up against the walls were a multitude of high-tech devices. Currently they were shut off, but when they were on, they added some much needed liveliness to the area.

And they had all been created by the person sitting at a desk in the corner.

He flipped through a rather thick book detailing the legends of Earth. The tome was quite the antique, the pages yellowed and cracked, and some of the words were slightly faded. It was in an ancient language that he had been working hard to translate – so far, he had only gotten through a sliver of the pages among many. And yet even through those few pages, he had discovered some very good information about the main subject of the tome;

The Chaos Emeralds.

“When all seven of the Chaos Emeralds are gathered…”

Seven diamond-cut gems stood out on the latest page, each a different color.

“It is said that a miracle will occur. How very interesting.” He stroked a ginger mustache, his lips curling into a sneer. “A miracle indeed.”

A flick of a gloved hand and the tome was snapped shut. He stood up from his desk, not even bothering to push his chair in – there were more pressing matters at the moment than tidiness. He walked over to a small button pad and inputted a code to open the door besides it. The door ajar, he stepped out of the room and into a long hallway.

The corridor itself wasn’t anything special, just two walls close together as would be expected. But the room at the end of it? That room…would be the starting point.

Another button pad was approached, another code was inputted. He stepped into the darkened area, reached to the right, and grabbed a large switch. With a strong pull down, the lights flickered on and the room came to life.

And what life it was.

Though they were not living per say, there were various robots lined up inside, off all different kinds. They looked much like those one would see in a cheesy Saturday morning cartoon. Geometric shapes for the bodies, large eyes, and bright, happy colors having been painted on them. And yet there was still something sinister about them, something that would have sent shivers down the spines of weaker willed beings if the metallic beings had caught them by surprise.

He walked over to one particular set of these metallic creatures, black boots softly clipping the polished white floor underneath him. The robot heavily resembled a beetle, with a bright red carapace. A dark blue head jutted out of the armor, with a pair yellow antennas sticking up and two large fangs right under its eyes. Located on the sides of the body, close to the head, was a set of small scythes that were sharper than a knife. Finally, below the undercarriage and with a small engine on the rear of the robot to help coast it along, was a single large wheel.

His reflection stared at him from the red armor, of which he rested a hand on top of. “Soon, my plan will be put into motion,” he said to himself, his voice calm, yet with the barest hint of madness inflected in it. “Very soon indeed.”

He reached into a pocket of his bright red coat and pulled out a curious article. It was a large, purple gemstone shaped in a common diamond cut. However, there was nothing common about this jewel. For it was one of only seven, a series of relics filled with great power.

A Chaos Emerald.
