Prologue

“It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend.”

-William Blake

It has been twenty six years since Brandon has even had contact with his family, friends, or even family. He said he had business to take care of and then, he was never heard from again. For the ladies and gentlemen who are reading this literature, there is only one sign of foreshadowing that will give you a clue of what happens at the end of this story. There are many foreshadows that tell you what happens next or later, but only one will give away the last chapter and epilogue. It is amongst many chapters of this story.

The act of treason can affect everybody in their lives. But, this isn’t a story about treason against another person. It’s about a person who betrays her own self, her personality, and her own thoughts. Only one person knows why she betrayed her own self and it’s a person she does not even know. There is an answer to why she betrayed her own self. Fear can hypnotize you in any way. Fear can kill you, it can hurt, and most of all, it can turn you into something you are not.

Chapter I: The Stench

Such a humid day it was during the beginning of summer at the Station Square. If you would have a glass of ice out, in the matter of five minutes, it would become a full glass of water. Even the dandelions would slouch down from the heat as if it was dying. Rarely, would the city get a breeze. The outskirts of Station Square and the Mystic Ruins were so hot that you could see the heat waves perfectly. People don’t know why the day has to be such a high temperature, but only the higher power would know and apparently, the higher power doesn’t like giving away its reasons.

Michael was at a small deserted playground with his fiancée, Briana. Michael is the offspring of his two parents, Scorch and Priscilla. He had a sister that was not present at that time. He was a tall, but scrawny grey hedgehog with an orange crest between his two eyes and two arches, which was the same color as the crest, on his head that would represent the first letter of his first name. He had alluring, red-orange eyes that he says only the people he loved could look at them. He wore a white, sleeveless t-shirt and a pair of beige, cargo shorts that had many pockets he would use. He also wore a pair of sneakers that had primary color of neutral grey, which matched his primary fur color. It had three golden stripes that went through the top of the sneakers horizontally. Then, there was his fiancée.

Briana was a skunk with long hair that its tip would cover her right eye. Her hair was black that had a white streak across like any other skunk would have on their head. Her primary and secondary fur color was like any common skunk. She had a black primary fur color and a white secondary fur color. She had light-brown eyes with a hint jade-green and sapphire-blue within the pupil. She wore a golden medallion that represented a tail that was curled around to a circle and had a large, flawless sapphire on it. She would usually wear a tight, black long-sleeved t-shirt with a white vest and a pair of straight-fit jeans, but today, she wore only a white tank top with a thinner, navy blue vest. She wore small a pair of cargos that were similar to Michael’s, except that they were a navy blue color. She wore a pair of completely black, Velcro sneakers that had two straps to keep them on.

Briana was resting the back of her head on Michael’s lap. Michael was looking around at his surroundings instead of at her. He looked anxious and somewhat nervous. She tilted her head that was still resting on his two legs. She kept on watching him look at the same place for about ten seconds and find another location to look at. She chuckled.

“Mike, what is wrong with you?” she asked as she was still chuckling. Michael looked down. He shrugged as he played with the tip of her hair with his finger. She blew her hair up so Michael could see both of her eyes.

“Much better,” Michael said. Briana chuckled as she gave a small peck at his lips. She couldn’t help but smile.

“It’s impossible for you to make me frown,” she said. Michael looked at the sky with his hand on his chin. He shrugged and looked forward. “Yep, pretty much…” he said. He sighed as he looked around.

“Okay, seriously, what’s wrong?” Briana asked. She sat up on the bench and looked to her left at him. Michael got up and scratched his head.

“I feel that something is wrong. Like, something bad is going to happen to not just me and you, but between me and you…” he said. Briana was confused. She didn’t see how their relationship would end. They both trusted each other a lot. The only thing that could possibly end the relationship would be death and even then, they would never let anything hurt each other.

“Hmm…come on. Let’s go to the Voodoo Lounge. It’s not that far from here,” she said pulling on Michael’s arm and dragging him to across the street and to the sidewalk. They began to walk as they passed many stores and business buildings. They would pass a familiar face every once in a while, but one face stopped them. It was Willow.

“Oh, there you guys are! I was looking all over,” she said. Michael hugged his sister and Briana did the same. Briana and Willow were the closest of friends that Willow ever had. Briana was introduced by Willow to Michael in the first place.

“Something happened at the lounge,” Willow said. “Follow me,” she ordered as Michael and Briana sprinted along with her towards the lounge.

“What exactly happened?” Michael asked. “No one really knows. There was so much darkness inside that all people could do was run and hope to reach the door. Few got hurt, but no one got killed. All anyone could see was glowing white eyes. They also heard a large scream that sounded like a banshee,” Willow said. Briana froze for a minute, but continued on running. She knew something that Michael and Willow did not know, but she wanted to keep it confidential for the sake of her relationship.

Chapter II: Run Like Hell

Briana, Michael, and Willow arrived at the Voodoo Lounge. There was already a large group of law enforcement officers there searching for any evidence of what attacked. Michael slowed down and stopped at an officer. "Place is restricted, step back," the officer said. The building seemed to still be in one piece surprisingly. "Our dad is one of the owners of this place!" Willow yelled at the officer. The officer gave Willow a dirty look. He then, pointed to the area. "Stay near an officer. We don't want another bystander injured," the officer said. The three nodded as they hopped over the tape and entered. There was only three officers in the main room with the tables and the stage. Willow ordered Michael and Briana to follow her to the offices in the back and they did what she told them to. They entered the founder, Jeff's office. The light was on and it looked like nothing was touched.

"It seems that this ma...thing is not looking for any sort of information. Possibly looking for...someone?" Willow said. "I don't know," Michael said. Briana kept her mouth shut. "Well, let's look in the main room," Michael said. They went out and looked around. Now, there was only one officer in there. "Hey, officer, have you seen anything yet?" Willow asked. The officer looked at them.

"I'm assuming that Fisher let you in? Heh, I've found only one thing so far. I'm actually going past my shift just so I can look in this case," the officer said. "What'ch'ya find?" Michael asked getting closer. "I found one thing. Not sure if it's important. It's a medallion," the officer said showing the three what he found. Briana's eyes widened. Michael chuckled. "That looks exactly like the necklace you have, Bri," Michael said as he looked at Briana. The only difference between that necklace and Briana's was the type of gem. She had a large flawless sapphire, the other one had a large flawless ruby.

"I'm not accusing you of anything, but do you happen to know a person that wears this?" the officer asked. Briana looked down. She looked like that she went through a drastic change of emotion. "Pariah," she said as a tear slowly ran down her face. Michael put his arm around her shoulder and rubbed her upper right arm. "Pariah?" he asked. "You know how I said that I would never tell you about my past for I thought it was confidential? Well, I guess, since it is necessary, I shall tell you now. I was born in this planet of course. My mother is named Pariah, and my father is named Hubris. My mom gave my father her necklace before she left him. She didn't break up with him, she had to disappear from him. My father was wanted and she was afraid she would get arrested for hiding him. So...my father had custody over me for the whole time. He treated me better than the precious gem that was on his medallion. I didn't realize that he was wanted until I was fourteen. Strange thing was, I got this necklace the day that I left him. There was only one of that particular necklace in the world and he made his own replica of it with a stolen sapphire. I wear it because I miss him dearly. I left because I didn't feel safe," Briana said. She let out an uncomfortable sigh.

"Now, if this is true, he's probably back to take me away," Briana said. Michael looked at the ground. He was putting the pieces of the explanation together. "Mike, I didn't want to tell you because I don't want you to either get hurt or leave me. I was afraid that you would be scared of me or my father," Briana said as she sniffled. Michael looked at Briana and smiled. "You seriously think I'm scared of anything?" Michael asked with a large chuckle. Briana hugged him tightly and released.

"Well, this is no time for a love story. We have to find more evidence. I'd prefer if you kids leave. I don't wanna lose concentration," the officer said. "Oh, and I'm officer Bruch if you ever need me," he said. Briana, Michael, and Willow walked out of the lounge. "I'm surprised that you don't need to be questioned," Michael said to Briana. "I think I've explained enough," she said. Michael froze.

"You hear that?" he asked. "Hear what?" Willow asked. She tried to ignore all of the other noises in her surroundings. Michael cracked his knuckles loud and Willow shivered and was startled by the noise. She growled at Michael. "You know I hate it when you do that!" she growled. Briana chuckled. Then, Michael's eyes widened. He stopped Willow as she was continuing to walk again.

"Oh, you're not going to do that again!" she growled. "No, I'm serious," Michael said. He could hear a faint, high-pitched noise. "Oh, yeah! Cracking knuckles is some important stuff, you know," Willow joked. "Willow, you know I can't crack knuckles twice in the same hour!" Michael yelled. Briana heard the noise as well. Willow kept her mouth shut as she heard it.

"Get down!" Officer Bruch said as he tackled all three of the kids down as a large crash came through the lounge with a large high-pitched noise. The Voodoo Lounge was demolished. The three kids and the officer got up. They saw a figure, but there was so much dust to even conceive who it was. The figure came out of the dust and he did not look too happy. He was a skunk that looked a lot like Briana. The only difference was his hair was shorter and wore only a pair of ripped up navy-blue jeans and a pair of navy-blue and white sneakers. The only white on the sneakers was the stripe that went all around the sneaker. Officer Bruch decided to get up. He ordered the kids to stay down.

"Stay back," Bruch said to the figure who is supposed to be Hubris. Hubris smiled. "I don't think one officer is going to keep me away from my daughter..." Hubris said. "Try me," Bruch said as he withdrew his baton. "My pleasure," Hubris said as he let out a large scream that shook the pavement they were standing on.

"Kids, run!" Officer Bruch said as Willow was the first to sprint. Michael had to pull Briana because she was in shock and did not know what to do. Her muscles were stiff, but she went along with Michael after the first three seconds. Officer Bruch sprinted after Hubris and before things got worse, the kids were already out of sight. They were still sprinting. Willow was far ahead of Michael and Briana.

"Will, wait up!" Michael said. Willow stopped and let them catch up. They were close to home, but they decided to run through the forest and take a shortcut. They ran and almost stumbled a few times before they stopped and took a breather.

"This is my fault," Briana said as she caught her breath. "No, it is not. You left your dad because you didn't want to get hurt. You have a valid reason for leaving him," Michael said. "It's not that I left him, Mike. It's that I came to you. If I would have never came to you, I wouldn't have gotten you in this mess. I don't regret us dating with each other or loving each other. I regret that I met you and gotten you two in this mess. Now that he has seen you two with me, he's going to destroy you both. He's going to think that you are preventing me from coming back," Briana said.

"I won't let him hurt any of us," Michael said. Willow did not look comfortable. "It's not safe here. I feel like someone's watching us," she said. They ran to the house that they live in. They were happy to see Priscilla and Scorch alive. "Oh, I'm glad that you two are alive," Willow said as she hugged her mother and father. Michael sat Briana on the couch and kept her comfortable.

"What happened and why does she look like she just saw a spider?" Scorch asked as he pointed to Briana. "Well, someone attacked the lounge. The lounge is demolished right now," Willow explained. "It was-"

"My father, Mr. Bailey..." Briana said. Priscilla and Scorch's eyes widened. They knew about her father more than Michael and Willow. "Wait, mom and dad, you know her father and her past already?" Michael asked. "Well, yes, he went to school with us," Priscilla said. Michael looked at Briana. "You told them before me?" he asked.

"No, they knew all along. As soon as I told them my full name they started to question me..." Briana said. Michael nodded his head. "Well, we are going to have to hide. My father is after me and only me, he will kill anyone that gets in his way," Briana said. "Well, we don't have a location right now, sorry to break it to you," Scorch said. "Here is fine, he does not know where we are," Briana said. Michael was stroking her hair. Trying his best to make her think positive. She looked at him, smiled, and they locked lips. "Get a room," Willow said. They ignored her as they let go.

"Well, it's getting late. We have to be heading to bed. I will stay up and keep a lookou-"

Scorch was interrupted by a knock on the door. Willow ran to it and look through the small glass and saw that it was Gizmo. She opened the door with an excited look. Gizmo walked in and was attacked by a hug from Willow. Gizmo was no way related to Scorch, but he was considered as the uncle of Michael and Willow. He is their Godfather. "Gosh, Will, how 'bout you throw me against a wall while you are at it?" Gizmo joked around as he saw the emotional state of the family.

"Okay, who crashed this party?" Gizmo asked. "We're not sad, more worried than sad," Willow said. Gizmo nodded. "I'm listening," he said. Willow explained the situation they were in and what happened. Briana did not want to say anymore and neither did anyone else. "So, some dude is after you guys and he's her father?" Gizmo asked looking at Briana. She nodded.

"Well, Ben, you do not need to keep a lookout for them. I'll make sure they're safe," Gizmo said smiling.

"Thanks, Giz," Priscilla said as she walked up and pecked Gizmo at the forehead. Scorch got up and looked at the kids. "Then, it is settled. We can all go get some rest and your Uncle Giz can keep a lookout," Scorch said. They all began to go upstairs. Before Scorch got up, he looked at Gizmo. "I don't know what he is exactly capable of, but please...me and Priss are fine. Keep the children safe," Scorch said. Gizmo smiled and nodded as he sat on the couch. He was coordinating his Cragora, which was a deadly weapon on his wrist, to "kill." He gave a small look around and kept silent.

Chapter III: The Run 1/2

Gizmo was not used to staying up at night. He was used to only being up about six hours a day. When he was up, he would mess with experiments. The only time he would ever stay up longer was when he needed to help someone or if he was working on something that is essential to his or someone else's benefits. Gizmo was "awkward" compared to most people. He never really had a life. He was dumb as a little kid. Mainly because he was home-schooled and his parents were too lazy to teach him anything. This meant that he barely ever went to school, even at home. He taught himself how to read, write, speak properly, and he taught his own self all types of science.

Gizmo sighed as he rested his wrists on the couch he sat on. He hated it when he was bored. So he got up and looked around. Trying to find something to occupy him for the night. Or for at that moment. He looked at the fridge. His eyes that were allured by neutral gray of the handle.

"I don't think Ben would mind if I took some grub," he muttered to himself as he walked towards the fridge and opened it. He was about to grab something when he heard a noise. He turned fast to see nothing was there. He heard the noise again. "Oh," he said as he knew it was the ice maker in the freezer. He went back in the fridge and grabbed a slice pineapple pizza. Scorch loved it, Gizmo knew that Scorch wouldn't mind. He liked eating it cold so he went back on the couch and began to eat.

"I just love the suspense of how quiet it is," he muttered.

"I do too..." a whisper came from behind him as he jumped up and rolled forward. It was Yvette Hummel, Brandon and Priscilla's cousin. She is also the brother of Johnathan "Onyx" Hummel. "What are you doing here, Vetterli?" Gizmo said softly so he wouldn't wake anyone up. "I saw what happened and I knew it had something to do with you guys. I also came to inform you that it's more than one that's causing trouble..." she said.

"What do you mean?" Gizmo asked. "I'm saying that the skunk that attacked the lounge has friends with helping hands..." Yvette said. "Uh-oh," Gizmo said. He looked outside to already see three people walking outside passed curfew. "Well, we have to-"

Gizmo was interrupted by a large crash into the house. The wall collapsed on top of him and a figure entered and glared at Yvette. "The child, where is she?" the figure asked.

"None of...your business!" Gizmo yelled as he rolled over and shot a pulse straight at the figure. He got pushed off the two story entrance and fell on his back. This alerted more people. "Yvette, help me," Gizmo said. She nodded as they both dashed outside and began to attack everything they saw.

The three kids were already up. They were getting dressed and were getting ready to run out. Scorch told Priscilla to stay in bed as he told the kids to get out and make sure they stay safe. Scorch ran out to help out Yvette and Gizmo. There was only three of them, but they were strong. None of them was Briana's father, though.

The three kept on running. When one ran out of air, all three would stick together.

"Great, now it's not safe to even stay home. Now what do we do?" Willow exclaimed. "We can't be at this location. We can't even be in Knothole. We have to find another place. A place that her father, Hubris would never even think to look at," Michael said. Briana sighed.

"I have a suggestion. There's a desert. It's far away, but we can get a ride. There's a large village in the desert to take care of ourselves at. Not to mention there's an abandoned temple there we could sleep in. We would have to find someone we know to give us a ride," Briana explained. "Coheed," Willow said. "You're kidding me, right? He hates me and isn't he your ex now?" Michael asked. "Yes, he is my ex, but we made up after the end of our relationship. He would understand what we are going through. He may hate you, but even though I'm no longer with him, he treats me like an angel," Willow said. Michael nodded.

"Let's go," Briana said. The three of them began to run. It was across the forest that Coheed lived. He lived in a large home with his parents, Raymond and Abbelina. Raymond was a great friend to Brandon. He played in a band with Brandon.

The three kids arrived at the large home. It was bigger than the home that Michael and Willow lived in. They ran to the front porch and knocked. It was about two o' clock in the morning so they had to wait a bit. Abbelina answered the door. "W-Willow? Long time, no see. What have you been up to?" she asked. "No time to explain Mrs. Weaver, I need to speak with Coheed," Willow said. "Listen, if-"

"It's not about our relationship. We're at a life-threatening situation and we need his help!" Willow said. This time, Ray was at the door. He knew what was up the second he heard a knock. "Abby, hide yourself. You kids are so lucky you're alive. Coheed is not here unfortunately, but I can help you guys out. What is the issue?" Ray asked. Briana started to explain the situation they were in. She made a short explanation of how her father was wanting to reclaim her and he would kill to get her back. She also explained where they needed to go. Raymond thought for a moment. He led them to a large SUV-looking vehicle and let them in.

"I cannot drive because I have my own family to protect, but I know Mike can drive. Listen, no need to give gratitude or anything. I'm just doing what I do best. Caring," Raymond said as he ran back into his house. Michael started the vehicle and began to drive. They exited the path and entered the highway.

"It's about fifty miles away from here. Should we make a stop? I'm afraid that I have no-"

"I got it covered, Mike," Willow said as she showed Michael her full satchel. "You're using your money for an expert tattoo for us?" Michael asked. "Listen, there's much more people to care about than myself," Willow said.

About fifteen minutes later, they stopped at a large restaurant that also contained a small motel. They ate at the restaurant. They tried not to spend too much for money was essential for this situation. They went into their room and saw there was only two beds. Briana had to share with Willow due to Scorch's orders so they grabbed the comforter and shared it. Michael sighed as he just hopped on the bed, covered himself up, and turned off the lights.

"I pray to whatever is out there that we make the night," Michael said as he fell asleep. Later in the night, it started to pour outside. It wasn't storming, but the noises woke Briana up. She got out of her covers and used the bathroom. After a five-minute stare into the mirror, she came back out into the main room with the two beds. She looked at Willow, who was sound asleep, and at Michael. She slowly crawled into the bed with Michael, covering herself up with the blanket he was in, laying to her side next to him, and fell asleep. Michael woke up almost immediately, hesitated, and wrapped his arm around her. The rain slowly began to stop and they slept throughout the rest of the night and a little bit during the sunrise.
