 Taylor couldn't help but chuckle as Aquis got iced down. "Whoops. Hey," he said, waving back. Before getting up himself, he quickly freed Aquis' feet from the ice with a light touch of fire. "There ya go..."
Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk.

 Shaking little drops of water from her feet, she smiled at Taylor."Thank you, they don't exactly play fair." she said looking at the girls. The girls gave innocent expressions with wicked laughter behind them. "Alright! Time to hide!" Molly said fluttering around Lilyann and Erma. Lilyann stopped Molly and held the Erma up to her face,"It's your turn to let Erma hide with you, last time she got me caught." Lilyann complained. Molly grabbed Erma and handed her to Aquis,"She's not much of a hider, more of an alarm system." she joked. Aquis gladly took the toddler and cuddled her. Erma began trying to climb up Aquis' shoulder with her tiny claws unsheathed."Thank Mortana her claws aren't sharp yet, but they're getting there." she thought pulling Erma's claws out of her clothing every time they snagged on. Lilyann and Molly went separate ways to find a good hiding spot. Aquis gave a quick smile to Taylor and began walking with Erma waving her pacifier at Taylor.

 Taylor shrugged, but didn't say anything. He wasn't too interested in having to recount his youth. Mostly because it got cut short by his first dimension jump. He just walked along with Aquis, his hands stuffed in his coat pockets.

 The remainder of the day passed without incident, and the next morning (Cayton time) the tunnel broke open on the ridge overlooking the ruined fort. "Same place, so there's no drift to speak of. You can send them through," he said into a radio he carried through. There'd been little change, though the light seemed brighter. But the constant cloud cover meant he couldn't place an actual time of day in this universe.

 "Alright." Hera replied pointing two fingers toward the gate. "That's our cue." Fran said stepping into the gate and out on the other side. Behind her came SICC-D and Luna standing on either side of Fran. Fran's mouth gaped open with excitement looking over the ridge at the huge pile of rubble down below. "So that's what's left of it?" Fran asked a little crushed. She wished she'd been able to go inside as they did before, but that couldn't be helped. "I should've jumped in when I had the chance, huh..." she thought out loud.

 "Only the tower collapsed," Taylor said. The tower had been overly tall for a complex of this apparent size, though, and the rubble spread throughout most of the inside of the wall. "I wouldn't be surprised if we found more to Fort Dustbowl than that..." he added.

 "...Alright then." Fran replied. "Let's have a look." she said more enthusiastically. She clapped her hands together and peered over the ridge before attempting to jump. She gasped as she saw Luna's fur flash past her and end up down below. "Show off..." she thought, turning her nose up in annoyance and letting SICC-D scoop her up and take her down safely.

 Taylor followed the others down the ridge, nimbly sliding down the slope and started heading towards the fortress again. It seemed to him that none of the energy he'd sensed had diminished since the previous day. "Curious..."

 Fran surveyed the fortress with her hands still in her pocket. "Interesting..." she commented. SICC-D was right beside her, the machinery making noise as she transformed into a dog. A bright line of lights beaming from her eye scanners while she dug randomly in the rubble. Fran squatted down picking up stone after stone, examining each with a intent to find something, maybe the foreign words from the video she watched over and over again the night before, or the 'stars' as well. Luna didn't to much care for what they we're there for, but woud rather be here than back home. She posted herself on a boulder and watched as they poked around the fortress.

 Both Fran and SICC-D ceased digging and looked to Taylor. Fran stood up and dusted the bottom of her lab coat with an eyebrow raised."And how exactly do you you know that?" she asked with a with a questioning tone yet surprise was behind it. Luna stared at Taylor also with her hear ears turned to attention.

 Taylor stretched his arms, then shrugged. "Short version is 'magic.' Longer version: The ambient energy that makes magic work tends to... change depending on the terrain. So the magic you can get near the coastline is a different 'flavor' from what's available up in the mountains. Or near caverns, for that matter. Those who work magic usually get a feel for said energy." He nodded at the end of his explanation, but then shook his head. "I can't find the entrance that way, though." He looked around at the fort with the new knowledge in mind.

Luna got up off the boulder she stood at and stretched."Might as well make myself useful." she sighed. The wolf began feeling around with her hands, for what she didn't know, but doing anything to be of help.
