For a jubilee, made out of diamonds.
Okay, to give everyone a heads up, this topic is about certain individuals. I know things can get a little panicky when this happens, but let me clear this up now: all of the people I hint at are banned users. I'm not going to depreciate them for what they did. I am simply using them as an example to get my question across.

Right, so lets start with the recent Dr. Felix. He made 3 or 4 sonic adventure threads, some are reviews on SA2 and others are him begging for SA3. Most thought that he was an obvious troll. His grammar and spelling in this thread was done on purpose, and he didn't listen to mods orders, which hints at his trolling behaviour.

But that's not the case. The case is this: When mods discipline people who try to troll the community, why do they do it? Now that may be a stupid question, but it isn't, and I will tell you why here:

By responding to apparent trolls in any way possible, you're feeding them and automatically making them achieve what they came here for. We all know that what trolls look for is the reaction in other members, regardless of their position.

There isn't really much else to say, but that question: Why do you feed the troll (by responding and disciplining said member) yet you know that that's what they want?

My 3DS friendcode is actually my Pokemon SoulSilver friendcode, so I don't actually have a 3DS.

Simple. It's their job.

In some cases they may not be sure whether someone is actually a troll or just a person really lacking in netiquette, so they'll give 'em a few warnings first as they would with any other person breaking the rules.

In most cases the obvious trolls get banned outright but you can't always be certain with these things. More subtle trolls are good at passing off as somewhat noobish members after all.

'Course, I'm not on the moderation team so what do I know? But I reckon what I've said isn't far off the mark.

imo, you discipline them because you want them to be better. no amount of persuasion will deter a troll if he's intending to rile up those who's watching them. you hope they'll get the message and they'll consider their actions. doesn't usually happen, but hey, ain't hope the last thing to die?

You won't get much closer, 'till you sacrifice it all.
Personally, I don't care if we're feeding the troll by telling them off. If said person breaks the rules repeatedly and is a nuisance, I know it'll only be a temporary problem before they're hit by the ban hammer. xP
