(This is a prequel to the original Digital Dive. The original will be rebooted eventually once the prequel is finished. More info will be released later on. For now enjoy the show. ^_^ )

"The hell... I thought this was supposed to be going on vacation... Instead I'm stuck here on a mission..." Koga sighed as the motorbike he was riding on sped down the highway. "It might just be a fluke in the network but it's a lead and we need to get to the bottom of these disappearances. It's coming from this area," Ren had said as she pointed at the map on the center of the table. He had been in their base of operations deep beneath his mansion on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Computer screens lined the wall and bright blue fluorescent orbs of light floated a few inches below the ceiling. Several of the monitors had images of people. Next to the images there were names and statuses. Each status read "MISSING".

"We're sending you in since you're the computer expert and if you can find the computer in that area causing the disturbance we may finally be able to find the person behind these disappearances. I'm not gonna pass up on our only lead and neither will you," she had said. "Since when did Ren start calling the shots," he chuckled under his breathe as he turned a corner following the gps on his HUD inside his helmet. The path narrowed as he started down a dark alleyway. The lights on his bike began to dim suddenly and the engine sputtered and died. "That's... strange... well I guess I'm on my feet for this one," he sighed as he hopped off the bike and made his way down the alley. He took off his helmet and set it on the bike's handle.

At the end of the alley he found a door. As he reached for the handle a strange feeling washed over him. Like the moment he entered this door he wouldn't be able to come back. He took a deep breathe as he turned the knob and the pushed the door open. It swung loosely open revealing a dark interior. Almost pitch-black.

"Here goes nothing..." he sighed as he stepped through the door. As he walked forward into the darkness, lights on both sides of the room came on and as he walked adjacent lights came on creating a path until a single computer and a large tube were the only things he saw. The door slammed shut behind him.

Koga walked over to the tube and put his hand on it. It felt cold. A handle was on the side. After taking a moment to decide whether to open it or not, he turned the handle, pulling it open. He reluctantly stepped in. "If this is the only way out, might as well... Ugh... I'm not gonna enjoy this... I just know it..." he thought just a moment before the tube door shut and began to fill with a pink colored liquid. "I'm gonna hope that's oxygen water..." he sighed as he waited for the liquid to rise. After it was full he began to feel slightly light-headed. Suddenly a flash of light appeared in a flat-line on the outer edge. It came on again and began to rise and fall as if it was scanning him. A few seconds afterwards all went black.

"Create a username, please?" an almost monotone voice rang in his ears. "A username?" he thought, "What is this a game or something?"

K0GA_HAR1N3 was what he ultimately decided on.

"Username accepted. Welcome to Digital Dive. You are now being logged in. A full-briefing of what lies ahead will be given to you after you enter. Your body will be stored away until the time you have beaten the game. If you can. To win your freedom you must win and if not forever be trapped inside to wander as a lost soul."

The voice in his head subsided and his vision cleared revealing a lobby area. There were several doors scattered about. However the only active one was in front of him. Above it the words "Cloud" were written into the frame. He sat down and took a moment to think things through. "This isn't good... Now I really wish I had brought back-up... Heh... Who knows maybe someone will come along," he laughed trying to keep a light-hearted tone. His laugh echoed throughout the lobby which seemed to have no walls. Just a large open space.

(It'll make more sense once I introduce the villain and have him explain more in detail. For now it's up to you how you decide to make your intro post, P_S. ^_^ )

They don't pay me enough.

Actually, Minx was sure they didn't pay anyone in this complex enough for what they did. Tech stuff, secret stuff... Erasing files from any accessible databank was an interesting job, if only because the authorities were chasing you every inch of the way. Of course, this wasn't your average job either. In fact, less of a job, more like a favour for a fellow man.

But why did she have to go to some location alone? Such a waste of time, she liked home better.

"Okay, Riko, you can come out now..." Of course he wasn't there yet. Or maybe he was just inside. With a sigh, Minx paid the cab fare and the driver rolled away into the distance. Riko needed her help with some company coding issue. While Minx wasn't usually one for coding, she owed Riko and that was that. Minx liked to pay her debts.

"Riko?" The door into the building was slightly ajar, and a note was attached. All it said was "Inside".

Typical hacker. Wouldn't even go outside anymore. Minx sighed. Was this what her old friend was reduced to? She pushed the door further open and quickly went inside, a strand of purple hair pulling free from her updo.

"Riko-" Seeing only darkness, Minx called again- Only to feel a hand grip her shoulder and pull her back, a hand pressing a cloth to her mouth-

She knew no more.

With a sigh Koga got to his feet. "Something tells me I'm not going to like this one bit," he said as he stared into the open doorway. He put his foot back and got into a running stance. A smirk on his face, he ran head first through the door to a world that was fresh and unknown. As he ran down the corridor he could smell the air; it had a very sweet scent. Like a spring breeze.

As he exited the doorway he noticed that he was standing on a stone platform just beyond the door. It stretched out a ways before dropping off to what would probably be a horrendous fall. He stepped forward and looked around amazed at the scenery. Clouds and stone platforms, some large and some small, were scattered about the area. Birdlike creatures flew through the air. Their beaks were long and slender. They had long necks and wings that probably had enough power to keep quite a heavy load up in the air for a long period of time.

He started to think of a way he could tame one but he didn't really have the right equipment but he made a mental note to give that thought a try sometime if he ever got the chance. Before him there were several platforms ahead of him however they seemed too far out of reach. As he reached the edge of the platform he stood upon, several platforms rose from below the clouds beneath where his platform floated.

"Well that's... Mildly convenient," he said as he took a small hop and landed on the platform. As he made his way across the stone path he noticed it was heading toward a large mass with what looked like a jungle and a large temple-like structure directly in the middle. When he made it to the small island he took a glance back at the platform he had stood on. "That's strange..." he said as he looked for the door that had seemingly vanished.

"Was it there when I left the platform?" he thought. He dropped it a few moments later deciding it wasn't of that great of importance at the moment. He then turned on his heel and ran into the jungle hoping to make his way to the temple to see if he could find any clues to what was going on.

"Ugh... What?" Minx tried to sit up, slowly regaining consciousness, but just slammed her head against something. She fell back onto whatever surface she was lying on, her whole head a throbbing mass of pain. She decided against opening her eyes at the moment. Everything seemed to have been pink. Hopefully she didn't have brain damage.

Create a username, please.

"MiNX... What-" Before she could formulate a sentence, she was cut off by the same annoyingly boring voice from before. She wished she could punch it, but that was of course impossible.

"Riko, if this is some kind of-" Minx suddenly felt a bright light in front of her. Good thing her eyes had been closed. The next thing Minx noticed was that she was no longer strapped to something, but sitting on some sort of cold stone surface. With a sigh, she opened her eyes-

And wished she'd kept them closed. She definitely had to have sustained brain damage.

Doors did not just appear in a previously all-pink room. And she had no idea how she'd gotten out of her restraints. She looked behind her, but there was nothing. No table to have been strapped to. No torture tools, nothing. Just this circle of stone doors.

And one was glowing.

"Cloud..." What the hell did that mean, "Cloud"? There was only one way to find out, and Minx didn't like the thought of it. There was a reason she was a hacker. She didn't just jump into things, she sent out probes first. Test the waters. But since she didn't have that option, there was nothing else to do. Enter whatever Wonderland she'd been thrown into.

With a sigh, she got up and walked towards the door.

Koga ran through the trees, jumping over roots and small streams as he made his way toward the temple. As he ran he thought he kept hearing some kind of machine off in the distance. It didn't sound like a small machine either. Koga assumed it was probably just his mind playing tricks on him.

He heard the twang of an arrow being released from a bow and ducked into an immediate roll just as the arrow flew past where he stood. He kept running. He didn't dare look back. His mind was focused on his destination and listening for the sound of more arrows. He ran behind a large tree and pushed himself against it.

He glanced from left to right hoping to see his opponent; however the attacks had ceased entirely as if his opponent had disappeared. "What the hell is going on?" he thought as a drop of sweat dripped from his chin, landing in the dirt below. He sat down and stared up at the canopy above him. The light softly shined through the leaves and a breeze caused them to shake lightly. It felt good where he sat.

He decided to rest there for a few moments and regain his strength. The heat was almost unbearable under the canopy in most places. This seemed to be one of the few places that actually had a decent breeze following through them. He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of the woods.

He didn't drift into sleep like he thought he would. Instead his mind was simply at ease and his body was still awake making sure to listen for anyone who might disturb him. "Must be a part of the game. Probably just to help us keep up our strength," he mused as he rested his head on the bark of the tree behind him.

Upon seeing where the door had dropped her, Minx froze. Wonderland? Yeah, that was probably an understatement... The whole scene had changed to look like some video game, with platforms suspended over the sky without any sort of supporting pillars. And then the birds... While Minx normally had nothing against birds, consdering this whole video game-like world, she wouldn't be surprised if they decided to wheel down and attack without warning. She didn't want to find out if that was their plan.

Actually, looking around and seeing these platforms suspended in nothingness, Minx didn't want to stay here period. She looked around, brushing a strand of purple hair out of her face, trying to determine which way would get her to the mainland faster... There. The platforms were even conveniently placed for her to jump on. As she hopped onto the first platform, Minx briefly wondered if this video game had given her double jump. It was a common feature... But not something Minx wanted to try out, at least not right now.

In a few unsettling hops onto cloud, Minx got onto the other side, a thick jungle blocking her view of anything possible behind it. A jungle in a video game was never a good place to go, but once again Minx didn't see mucch of a choice here. She just hoped she didn't find out how many lives she had here.

"Riko, when I win this thing you are deader than punch cards." Minx hissed to herself, then set off.

After resting for several minutes, Koga decided to go back and see something. He hadn't been attacked since the first set of arrows so he thought there might be a possibility of a machine that shot at him. As he walked back he saw where several arrows had embedded themselves into trees. Some of the trees had small pools of blood at their base, probably from unsuspecting victims.

He stepped off the path and made his way back moving in between trees as he searched. When he finally decided to walk back his foot struck something metallic under his feet. He kicked aside some leaves and found a round disc-like object. It was firmly planted into the ground but a cable was strung from it. The cable lead to a pressure plate on the path which he hadn't noticed before.

He figured he must have triggered it while he was running. He pulled the device out revealing that underneath was a cylindrical device that had arrows stored within. It was probably meant to rise when an unsuspecting victim passed by or triggered the pressure plate in this case.

With that knowledge in mind he cut the cable and searched for any more. He found several others and cut there cables as well. "Better safe than sorry," he sighed as he got back on the path and started walking back to his destination. He took it slowly this time in case more traps happened to pop up on him.

Minx decided to go through the jungle slowly, considering she was fairly uncoordinated and she knew it. She'd read too many urban legends about people being eaten alive by ants (And other ground-dwelling critters) in the Amazon to want to risk tripping to move a bit faster.

Besides, there wasn't really any reason to rush, was there? Despite the rude way she'd been introduced to this video game, Minx could apreciate the beauty of the landscape she was now roaming. The graphics were impeccable. In fact, if she'd somehow been unfamiliar with platformers Minx would have kept on assuming she was on hallucinogens for the next however long she had to be here for.

By the way, she was now ready to kill Riko.

A sudden movement caught Minx's attention. With a sudden jump, she barely avoided an arrow racing towards her.

Quickly, Minx got up (Avoid the ants!) and pulled the arrow out of the ground, observing it. Oddly, it seemed like more shots weren't being fired. Minx stayed still for a bit, alert but clearly in the open.

These shots were automated.

With a sigh of relief, Minx stood. Well, obviously even walking she had messed up. She'd have to be even more careful. Triggering more of these would not be a good idea. There had to have been something she'd bumped to trigger the shot... But Minx figured it would probably be fairly obvious if she just paid attention. This was level 1, after all.

So Minx continued to walk.

After a while, she didn't didn't spot anything, but she hadn't been fired at either. So there was that. Minx sighed again. She had no idea what she was doing, where she was going. At least the time she had been fired at meant she was going the right way. Now she was just lost. Minx didn't even know if the small bit of sunlight visible even came from the east or west. It might not work the same way as on Earth.

She wanted to sit down, but of course there was the possibility of those stupid ants. So for the moment, Minx just stood, trying to think of her next move.

Koga walked out into a large clearing with a pyramid-like structure in the center. In front of him was a large opening that seemed to stretch on inside. He could make out a stairway at the end of the tunnel. He stepped lightly on the pathway making sure his foot wouldn't trigger any unseen trap. As he walked down the passageway he noticed that the ground was covered in moss and small bugs crawled on the ground. At one point he even thought he saw a snake.

When he reached the stairway he looked upward. It was a spiral-staircase that stretched up to an opening at the top where light flooded through. There was no railing so he'd have to make his way up the stairs carefully. The moment he stepped on the first step the ground began to shake and a loud roar could be heard in the distance outside. Whatever it was it didn't sound friendly.

Koga quickly made his way up the steps but stopped as he noticed that some of the steps had broken off or were rusting in places. "Well this isn't gonna work..." he thought as he looked around the room. In the corner was a large gear that looked like it had once fit into some mechanism. The location didn't seem to be in this room so he decided to walk back into the tunnel and see if there was a place for it.

The walls seemed relatively solid but he decided to search anyway and see if there might be a switch or lever that might open a door or something. The machine was still moving in the distance. It sounded like it was going the opposite direction of his location. It was still loudly roaring but it eventually died down as he began to run his hand on the wall. With a sigh of relief Koga focused on the task at hand.
