Angel Island Act 2

Many of you may be familiar with Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, for the Nintendo DS. It is the only RPG in the Sonic series to date and has, therefore, arguably the most in-depth plot of any Sonic game. The very same plot runs through the game to the end, where it drips with 'to be continued'. Now, the game came out in September '08 in most regions (Aug. '09 for JP), but not much more has been said in the last three and a half years. In '11, a sequel was mentioned by Bioware, which was majorly involved in the game...until EA Games bought out the company. So we have no word on the sequel to one of the most plot-focused and unique Sonic games. Anyone else as annoyed about that as I am? |

Yep.

I didn't like Sonic Chronicles. Terrible music that could have been done better even for DS limits, useless fourth wall breaking at the end, then there's the models UGHJDHSJKSHD All aside, i respect others opinion but i wouldn't like a sequel, unless a lot of improvements from SEGA's and not only bioware's eye could have been done. Bioware made it feel just..lazy. There's effort but it was effortlessly wasted. So, to answer your question, i am not annoyed with that. Sonic Chronicles could have advantage if it had that kind of better RPG look. |

Considering BioWare was bought out after the game was released, it's likely any titles they had in the works were shelved, especially ones concerning contractual obligations to another studio. |

Chronicles may have not been perfect, but I enjoyed it. Despite its flaws, it did have strengths, and those little things worked really great. Granted, if they were to release a sequel, I'd have A LOT of notes on what needs improvement, but as far as being the first ever Sonic RPG (not to mention, a RPG exclusively for a handheld console, which are much more limited than home consoles), it was decent, if not good. I definitely loved the ability to control Sonic's dialogue and attitude, and I loved how it not only triggered all those little responses from certain characters at a time, but also how some of the choices actually altered the way some portions of the story progressed. Plus, Shade, Ix and the Nocturnus were pretty cool. That said, at this point, I don't see a sequel coming out. Wouldn't mind being proven wrong, but it seems highly unlikely. |

I'm with the lovely lady above me on this one. While Sonic Chronicles had its fair share of flaws I still found it to be an enjoyable experience. And in response to the OP's question, yes, you bet the lack of a sequel rustles my jimmies something fierce. I can't stand cliff-hangers at the best of times but when they never get resolved it bugs me even more. While graphically (though the models weren't THAT bad considering all the neat attack animations) it wasn't so great and the sound department could have used a lot more work (most of the music was unmemorable and the sound effects were all over the place. Did appreciate the old school sounds they mixed in though), the game play itself was engaging and I loved the story that ran throughout the title. They also did a really good job of incorporating Sonic lore into it EVERYWHERE, which I found to be a really nice touch. Also I was just really happy to see Gizoids being a thing again. Personally I'd love to see a sequel for the game, if only to have that cliff-hanger resolved. But as others have said, it doesn't look too likely. |

Damn...I would love to see a sequel to Chronicles. Especially since it has the distinction of being my favorite handheld game in the series. No, I am not kidding, it was awesome. The gameplay was great, and this is just a small thing I loved the how the backgrounds looked hand painted and all that, and the scenery kind of make me think of SatAM, which I love, at some points. The characters may have been a bit OOC, but the storyline was still quite good and like Mira said, being able to choose Sonic's responses often lead to the story progressing differently. Which I don't think we've seen anything like that in a Sonic game, save for Shadow the Hedgehog. And as for the music, I actually liked it. What I can remember, anyway, seeing as how, no matter how good it is, I always seem to forget most of the music in a handheld game. Happens every time. But I certainly remember Chronicles' music not being bad, and to be perfectly honest, there is a certain style of songs in, hold onto your hats folks, freaking Sonic Adventure 2 that I found much worse than anything in Chronicles. No, I am NOT joking, people. And those of you who know my musical tastes should know which style of songs I am talking about. Chronicles also has the distinction of being literally the ONLY handheld game where I've completed the story. Unfortunately, after I had finished the story and was just about to start a new one...the game FROZE for whatever reason and now I have to fight the second worse boss battle in the series all over again....Game, couldn't you have let me play through your many good parts...? Anyway, as I said before, I'd love a sequel, and I've been kinda holding out for one, though it's not very likely. Though if one ever DID come out, I'd be all over that. |

Huh. Care to offer a few examples of the music you remember as good for the game? I'm genuinely curious on the matter. Not saying it's completely devoid of good music, just that it doesn't really have much that stuck with me. As for the certain style of music you hated, that's only because you despise rap. Which frankly, as a guy who doesn't listen to much of the stuff, wasn't that bad. |P |

Well, to be honest, I didn't mean 'like' as, 'this is the most awesome thing ever'. I meant 'like' as in it was kinda catchy. I thought it was fairly decent. See what I'm saying? |

I WANT-I WANT-I WANT. Every day you hear people say what they want or bought. Well, this is what I want. I want people who are sick, to be healed. I want children without parents to be adopted. I want people to never have to worry about food and shelter and warmth. But most of all I would like to see people give to care about each other, less gossiping and more to help each other ... Now let's see how many people will copy this. I think almost anyone. I did it, now you do. | |

@Blaire: Eh. It had one or two catchy tunes, but nothing much else. The battle tunes were alright I guess but I would have liked that they stuck to one or two of them instead of this 'pick one at random' deal they did for it. Soundtrack was kind of all over the place as a result. Most of the over world music was horrible though. How'd they manage mess up the final boss theme of S3&K? |I |

I enjoyed the music from Chronicles. In fact, it's from listening to the reused music in the game that I started looking for other reused tracks on the series. The story was fine, though it stretched the believability of the 'years later' concept. The backgrounds, I...well, I never quite focused on the backgrounds, though there was nothing glaringly bad about them. I was more concerned with being a completionist and valued geography over scenery. |
