Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
Dear God, where to begin. Now that Sonic 4: Episode 2 is released on all consoles and networks, I would like to discuss some things about this game. As of this post, I only have gone so far as to beat the game, with collected only three Chaos Emeralds, and I have not played Episode Metal. That being said, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, far exceeds its predecessor. In fact, this game has to be up to par with Unleashed, Colors, and maybe even the classics!

Now saying that is a pretty tall order, but you should download it yourself and see if you like it. First off, the graphics look more shinier and sleeker that Episode 1, but fairly the same. However, the environment stand out a lot more that the first one. Sega really put effort into this game and I dare say, ALL of the stages in Episode 2 are way better than Episode 1, in terms of style and platforming.

They really bucked up on the music as well. It sounds like more retro and it feels like it belongs in a Genesis game.

As for the gameplay, well it first it was great with the platforming and other things. Soon I started raking up lives, up to around 15 or so, before the fourth zone. But it is good thing I needed those lives, because I died quite a number of times. Especially when I got to the end of the game where I had zero lives and zero rings upon defeating the final boss. And that is where I think this game shines very well: the bosses. The most original bosses I have ever seen in a Sonic game in a very long while. I do not want to spoil much, but there is a lot of nostalgic moments as well in the game. And the biggest improvement: the physics. Main point: feels just like the Genesis game and Classic Sonic in Generations. Strongest point, right there.

Really I wanted to make this as short as I can, but tell me what you guys think. Did you like it, love it, hate it? Personally to me, Sonic 4: Episode 2 fixes everything from the first and improves on it. Very good game, well worth the money.

I haven't beaten the game yet, but I am half-and-half on this one. I do believe its a definite improvement from episode 1. I'm a little frustrated that's it's basically just another remake of classics (although the Sky Fortress level is pretty cool), but seeing the White Park Zone made me feel alot better. Act 2 in that level is my favorite by far. The bosses are a little different, but nothing too amazing for me. I like the combo techniques for Sonic and Tails, it def saved me a few times. The multiplayer mode is also alot of fun surprisingly. I've enjoyed helping random strangers and myself find Red Rings and collect Chaos Emeralds. A great aspect to add to the game. I believe it was a good improvement, but still so much more could have been done. The music, for one. With the exception of WPZ Act 2, nothing really thrilled me there. Which surprised me, because usually in Sonic games the music is one of the things that is consistently great.

But yeah, I still have to beat it before I can really give a complete review.

Its only 20 bucks on the PS network which is pretty cheap.
I've played much worse games for more money.

I downloaded the demo from PSN and I actually really liked it

Is it short?

My favorite part about the sonic games was that the
levels were always rlly colorful and smooth (not blocklike compared to a lot of games)

I bet sonic 4 pt 2 is shorter than I'd like it to be but I still want to play it.
I wish they'd come out with a sonic game that lasted for like a 100 hours tho
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
(MWAHAHA)

^I think it would have to be a Sonic RPG if it lasted 100 hours (but I think that'd be awesome if done right!)

It is pretty short if you have the time to just play right through it, but going back to get the Red Rings and Chaos Emeralds plus to do Time Attack mode adds some replay value to the game.

So, where i'm going with that? In Sonic 4, You need to collect all emeralds. You need to collect all red rings. Perhaps try out online mode. Score mode. Time attack. =3 That makes the game much longer because you take your time to do that by doing more stuff not involved with the original game =3

Alright, rant done. In short, doing side stuff makes the game longer then 100 hours.

I'll be there every step of the way...
So I dig this game pretty well so far... It's full of highs and lows, frankly. There's some excellent platforming sections; but then there's a couple really cheap parts, too. For example, in Sky Fortress Act 1, the section where you're being fired at with the different weapons drags on forever, and you're bound to keep losing rings. Luckily, it's easy to gain them back, but I honestly felt like I needed to do something special to end the section. And in Oil Desert, the part where you have to fly over the death pits with the help of the sandstorms is nearly impossible--until you realize the storm will indeed sweep you up after you pass the robots. Even so, it's far too easy to die.

On the flipside, though, the first Metal Sonic boss is fantastic. It's intense and high-speed, as well as being one of the few Sonic vs. [insert major character] bosses in the series that are actually extremely challenging. White Park also has one of the best "vibes" of any 2D (and 2.5D?) Sonic stages, even though, like the others in the game, it bears some overwhelming resemblance to past Sonic stages--this one reflecting, notably, Ice Mountain from Sonic Advance. Certainly, though, White Park is the most distinguished of the zones in the game. Sylvania Castle even bears direct reference to Aquatic Ruin, its heaviest influence, when the boss destroys the pillar boss from Sonic 2. I'll give Sonic Team some credit, though, every zone and act is beautifully rendered and does its respective originals great justice, while offering some entertaining gimmicks.

All in all, as far as I am (Sky Fortress Act 3, currently), I'm pleased, and I find this to be a worthy celebration of the classics, a superior to its predecessor Episode I, and a nice, enjoyable entry for the Sonic series. I'm still just waiting for Sonic Team's next big innovation, though... Which I assume will be the Wii U title.

I just beat the game a few minutes ago. The final boss was def something new and interesting, but I wish they had added a little more to the ending! It's great though for a short game, I really had alot of fun playing this.

I've yet to play it, but I love the animation and effort put into the cutscenes. Sonic Wrecks recently uploaded all the scenes from Ep. 2 and Metal, for those interested. Spoilers, obviously:

I still have yet to get the money for this game, but I might get the demo sometime tomorrow. I actually am kind of looking forward to this game. Not expecting much from the music, but otherwise my hopes are at a moderate level.

Joined up in a match with a random gamer online to hopefully find help for the achievement where you have to get all the rings in special stage 1. This dude seriously stuck it out with me for almost an hour until we finally accomplished it. (I think he already had the achievement) Seriously that made me so happy to know there's kind people out there willing to help a fellow gamer. lol

OK.
I bought the game on it's release (PSN), finished it on said day and decided to wait until I completed it 100% to write something about it.

Definitely wasn't what I expected which is a good thing because for some god awful reason I was expecting a bit of Sonic CD to be brought back.
That was probably due to talk concerning Metal Sonic's appearance back in announcement stages, which I will say again: HE WAS IN ANOTHER GAME TOO!!!!
Why does this bother me?
I don't know.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way I will say I really had fun playing it.
The following I will keep in spoilers because I'm giving away the ending which will be given a spoiler alert.

Some peculiar aspects of Episode II I liked and disliked:

On a final note about my Episode II ramble...

That's all as far as my whining goes.

All in all:

Definitely worth the wait mainly because Sonic Team proved me wrong once again.
As far as the tunes, interesting bosses, new style of game play and of course the Death Egg makes this a great extension to Episode I and worth the $15 buckaroos.

Episode Metal:

Kind of something I saw was being able to play as Metal Sonic in some way shape or form while announcements were being made of Episode II.
And it happened...
Just like playing as Sonic only this time with cool sound effects during movements.
I kind of always wondered how Metal would attack enemies, which I figured something like the stuff he does in the Stardust Speedway race like the electrified charge and the speed boost.
Although I expected it to be longer it was a real cool bonus.
A prediction ol' Snow Toilets made was that Episode Metal was going to be like Sonic Adventure where you play as Metal Sonic in Sonic's levels as well as the bosses were going to be just like Sonic 3's as far as Knuckles' game play goes and that they would remain but be harder and/or styled differently.
I'd like to see an Episode Tails out of this.

Gives away story:
