Another profile field?

Despite how many fields there are, which is quite a bit to be frank, we have a sonic related field "Favorite Sonic Character". So may I propose another field for stages/zones?

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
I like it. I mean this is a Sonic site right? XD

No I see some fun into this and it is always nice to see others favorites as well. :)

I was the one who brought in the Favourite Sonic Character field.

Favourite stages would be alright, but then we would have to sacrifice one that people don't really use much.

So I remain neutural on this one.

I still can't use this.

You can add a ton of profile fields if you so choose; if it's not unlimited, it's high enough. My question is whether or not this is going to lead to a slippery slope. There's tons of "favorites" questions you can ask concerning the Sonic series and frame with multiple answers. How many of them should go on this profile?

But wouldn't more fields make everyone's posts long to scroll down past?

And besides, does telling people your favourite stage REALLY matter?

If everyone utilized every profile field, especially the ones with gamer tags, then yes it would take awhile to scroll.

And it matters no more than your Favorite Sonic Game and Favorite Sonic Character.

But you seem to have posted that under the assumption that I support the suggestion. I don't.

I really hate these profile fields enough as it is, All they do is make everyones post about 2-3 time longer then they need be to show some irrelevant information that you could probably find in a topic if you look are enough.

So no, I don't support this idea.

Why adding a profile field for it while you just could open a topic asking a question like that. It seems a bit unnecessary and makes the whole profile field a bit too long.

So I'm with Eevee with this one.

Eh. Don't see much of a point to it either. Would just take up unnecessary space and would make us scroll more (which we already have to do enough of as it is...).

I don't mind fields for Gametags, friend codes, or whatever. Saves people trouble looking through pages of topics. Which is quite nice.

Still, I don't really support having a "Favorite Stage" field at all. Like what everybody else said, I find it rather pointless, as I don't think "What is your favorite stage?" is a great-enough-question worthy for its own field. Hell, I didn't think "Favorite Character" even deserved its own field. Like I said about it, "Favorite Stage" could also just be another field where people don't even treat it seriously, putting something unrelated in there.

Frankly I don't see much use in knowing someone's favorite sonic stage, character, song, game, or alcohol based beverage. The profile should contain information relating to that person's identity, and a person;s favorite ____ can be put in their likes field on their user page if it's so needed. So I'm gonna echo the majority here: No.

...Wow.

People are actually complaining about having to scroll? When in pretty much every forum out there you have to scroll up and down almost constantly? And it's not like putting that one little field will really equal a massive amount of scrolling, even if everyone on that page has that field activated. I mean, I could kinda understand if we added a field for say, pretty much every gamer tag out there, MSN and AIM numbers, Skype contact, and a whole bunch of other stuff? But THIS little thing? Compared to everyone using every gamer tag we have, this would barely add anything.=/

Now, the reason why I don't quite support it is....is it really necessary? Couldn't we just make a topic on our favorite stages?

Scrolling issues are part of the reason why many forums, including ours, have signature limits. No one wants to scroll past an image that's 10,000 pixels tall in order to bother being able to partake in the primary purpose of the forum, which is to read posts. By the same token, the large profile fields with the gamer tag images stacked on top of each other also add wholly unnecessary padding to the forum. Good web and forum design should always take these things into account.

Well yeah. Large signatures and all those gamertags, they actually add quite a bit to the scrolling, especially of the majority of members in a topic utilize them. THAT I can understand bothering a lot of people. I'm talking about people complaining about having to scroll just a little bit more. That I don't get.

The Signature debate is something for another topic (Considering the size limitations get ignored more often then not.)

If you need an example of why I personally object to the profile fields then just look at Peter's post earlier in this topic, he writes 2 lines of text yet his post takes up over a full length of the screen, That is the kind of post that I hate to see.
