I still can't use this.

Bliz has finally had time to sit down and count every vote you all casted in the prior topic (around three or four times), all whilst abusing a calculator. Quite the headache-inducer, but here it is: the forum's favorite songs from the Sonic series!

(Note: Whilst no ballots were tossed out, songs that were listed inappropriately were thrown away at my discretion. Rule reading, people. D8)

Live and Learn; Sonic Adventure 2; (3 votes/0 mentions/9 points)

Maelic

In a last ditch effort to save the planet from the newly formed threat that is the Biolizard having attached himself to the outside of the Space Colony ARK, Sonic and Shadow have taken the now-neutralized Chaos Emeralds from the core of the Eclipse Cannon and intend to use them to power up. You witness the first appearance of Super Shadow, and you know... It's go-time. Your game saves, and you're itching to begin the final battle to end all final battles.
And as you gaze upon the starry space outside the ARK, the guitar from the game's main theme roars... Yes, the title screen riff that started this epic journey.
Your first thought is "Oh hell yes."
Now you're ready to kick some ass for the fate of the world.
What's more, is in addition to being (arguably) the best main theme and boss theme in the Sonic series, it serves extremely well as a song separate from the Sonic series. The message in the lyrics is simple yet profound. If you beg or if you borrow... (Live and learn!) You may never find your way.
"Live and Learn" echoes through a subculture in our generation as the theme song to one of the greatest games ever made.

Escape From The City; Sonic Adventure 2; (3 votes/0 mentions/8 points)

Maelic

Damn right, we're rollin' around at the speed of sound. This song is a fitting beginning and an accurate reflection of Sonic in action. The moment with the bass line signaling the incoming rock explosion as Sonic drops from the sky on his scrap metal snowboard is a moment that could bring a tear to the eye of a hardcore fan of the series. Because what happens next? Sonic hits the ground and a barrage of rock instruments graces your ears as the city begins to speed by you, and the adventure begins.
Find the next stage, no matter what that may be.

Rooftop Run - Day; Sonic Unleashed; (3 votes/0 mentions/ 8 points)

Special Operative Blaire

Catchy and infectious. What more needs to be said?

Maelic

This one's obviously a classic.

Rooftop Run - Night; Sonic Unleashed; (3 votes/0 mentions/8 points)

BlizShadow

Another jazzy tune that's got a hell of a lot of funk and soul in it. The electric guitar is great, and they utilized accordions in there. Freaking accordions. Probably some harmonicas too. This song just rocks.

Special Operative Blaire

Oh Werehog battle theme that everyone does remember. You are actually pretty awesome. But why must you interrupt the jazzy with obvious Italian music influence awesomeness that is Rooftop Run Night when ever I face a horde of enemies.

Posted Image
Skyscraper Scamper - Day; Sonic Unleashed; (4 votes/0 mentions/8 points)

BlizShadow

When you hear that saxophone blare at the beginning, you know shit's about to go down. It starts off with a bang and doesn't lose any momentum from there. Great song.

Maelic

Oh yeah, that brass, man... Mmmm.

Sweet Mountain - Act 2; Sonic Colors; (2 votes/0 mentions/8 points)

Crisis City - Act 2; Sonic Generations; (2 votes/0 mentions/8 points)

Special Operative Blaire

Violins make everything better. Including ruined cities two hundred years into the future. The very beginning beat, right before they get into the violins, is probably my favorite part for whatever reason. I also can't help but be reminded of Unleashed's Spagonia for some reason.

'TakeCare

I can say my heart enjoys listening to the violin, and this song has PLENTY of that. For a city in ruin, it's got some calming section in the song. <D Sidenote: I took the controller from my friend play both Acts, bobbed my head the entire time, and got all Red Rings on my first go. Bouse.

Tier 3: 7 points

Scrap Brain Zone; Sonic The Hedgehog; (2 votes/0 mentions/7 points)

BlizShadow

This isn't a song I listen to a lot, but when I'm compelled to and I hear that little breakdown in the middle of the melody, I remember just how much I actually enjoy it.

Posted Image
Ice Cap Zone- Act 1; Sonic The Hedgehog 3; (3 votes/0 mentions/7 points)

Special Operative Blaire

Honestly, Ice Cap is beautiful. It is a memorable stage and the music makes you feel like you are in a snowy environment. Mystical and far from the world. Why is it not higher up is because it not my favorite music or stage for that matter.

Chaos TH

Obligatory Ice Cap mention. But you've got to admit that it's a pretty neat tune. Really overused though.

Open Your Heart; Sonic Adventure; (3 votes/0 mentions/7 points)

Luigi Espadachin

As I mentioned in the Sonic Heroes voting, I love how this gets you pumped for the final boss and how it fits the atmosphere of everything falling apart around Super Sonic. When I was younger, this was the epitome of epicness. Crush 40 then solidified themselves as my favourite Sonic composer with this song alone. :3

BlizShadow

The first bit of music you're treated to in the game, placed distinctly in a heart-pounding opening that, at the time, was mesmerizing. Hell, the entire scene still is. Open Your Heart isn't just a good song in general about expressing fear, conquering those fears, and whatever else. It was the distinct marking of a completely new era for the franchise.

Posted Image
Run Through the Speed Highway; Sonic Adventure; (3 votes/0 mentions/7 points)

BlizShadow

I like the witty bit of timing of this song. A long, mounting tone as you run through a tunnel, opening up with some solid riffs as you emerge to a huge city and a steep drop down this long aerial highway. It sets the tone right away and manages to keep up even as you're going up and down and all around.

Mike Shadow

Love this song. Really fits the stage well, especially the chorus "Up and Down and all around."

Posted Image
Red Hot Skull; Sonic Adventure; (2 votes/0 mentions/7 points)

Haruko Haruhara

Who would've known that this song, a song from a Sonic game, sampled a Rap hit from the 90's? No complaining here though. It sounds fantastic. I can't get enough of SA's electric guitars. They just ooze awesomeness, especially in this song.

Mike Shadow

Four words for this one- A party in hell. Combine the hip-hop elements, the pumped up bass, and the hellish guitar licks, and you got one very catchy tune for a hellish environment.

Posted Image
Jungle Joyride - Night; Sonic Unleashed; (4 votes/0 mentions/7 points)

Special Operative Blaire

This song is simply beautiful. Those violins give it a very haunting and somber mood, something that is only punctuated by a piano a little later in. Musical gold.

BlizShadow

This song is a bit of a surprise. It completely ditches the normal jazz for a more somber, mysterious atmosphere and more traditional instruments. It's quite beautiful.

Final Zone; Sonic The Hedgehog; (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

BlizShadow

Probably an unorthodox opinion, but this is definitely the classic song I listen to the most due to its sheer simplicity. To me, it's the defining theme of the era, stripped of any fluff or nonsense for pure concentrated awesome. The percussion's just infectious.

Posted Image
Mid-Boss Theme; Sonic The Hedgehog 3; (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

MysticShaid

Micheal Jackson plus rapish style. Ummm, ok? Well it is very comedic with I find funny since it is a mini boss. It feels like that they are a joke, but they are not. However the track fits nicely and there is nothing bad I can say.

Mike Shadow

This tune is simply kickass. Need i say more on it? I fell in LOVE with this little tune. Quite catchy too.

Posted Image
Sky Sanctuary Zone; Sonic The Hedgehog & Knuckles; (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

Talancir D'Landior

This was always a lovely song. I remember when I first got to this level. I probably sat on the edge of that bridge, watching the Death Egg fly into the air, for a good two or three minutes. I totally got a feel for Sonic's heroism from this music that wasn't there from the Sky Fortress Zone of Sonic 2.

Chaos TH

What I consider one of the most majestic tracks in the whole Sonic series, this really does give that feel of running along ancient ruins hovering around the lofty heights above the clouds. I just love it.

Posted Image
Believe in Myself; Sonic Adventure (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

LuigiEspadachin

I think this is better than the Sonic Adventure 2 version. Why? Because I like some of the vocal parts better... But mainly because the main riff in this one is simply magical.

Posted Image
Be Cool, Be Wild and Be Groovy; Sonic Adventure; (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

BlizShadow

This fun rock song punched up with crazy horns helps make one of the key moments of both humor and cool in the game. A waiting avalanche can be a scary thing, but when you have a conveniently-placed snowboard, the entire situation turns into something awesome.

Mike Shadow

This one i really like. Who knew that such a very faced-paced race down the hill would harbor such an awesome blues rock track

Posted Image
Supporting Me; Sonic Adventure 2; (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

Special Operative Blaire

You all know how much I love this song. Best in the entire Sonic franchise. And if there's one line that I love, one line that really 'gets' me, it would be this one, right here;

'Everything's just like
An illusion, I'll be loosing you
Before long...'

Powerful lyrics already, but the delivery, the note of despair in the tone of voice, makes it all the more meaningful.

Maelic

A climactic moment in the game... Shadow vs. his own prototype. Shadow's life has come full circle here, and you can hear it in the music.

Posted Image
Seven Rings in Hand; Sonic & The Secret Rings; (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

BlizShadow

Everyone seems to hate this song (which I primarily blame on the ill-advised repeating of a few chorus lines in the main menu), but to me, anything with Steve Conte's vocals on it is just great. I hope Sega will get him back in the future.

MysticShaid

With this track, it is the setting for the whole game. And what a setting it is. The struggle to fix a world of stories and myths and that Sonic is beyond what fate gives him. Nothing bothers him and he knows that he can fix this and will stop at nothing to do so. Bliz was right, Steve Conte from Runblebee needs to get some more limelight with Sega because his does an awesome job. And with the game and this track, matches perfectly with the game.

Let The Speed Mend It; Sonic & The Secret Rings; (Sand Oasis) (2 votes/0 mentions/6 points)

MysticShaid

I love this. Quite possibly one of my very stage tracks in any Sonic game. I do not understand what Sonic games and first stage love has to do with any logic, but it shows. It tells us about how the Arabian Nights have changed within a blink of an eye. Take the speed and let it carry you. It goes with Blue On the Run track; just keep on running.

BlizShadow

Probably the only song on the soundtrack that bothers to blend Arabic instruments within its rock stylings. It reminds me of Unleashed's stuff in that way which is always a good thing. Simple, unintrusive lyrics about being tossed into the conflict and approaching the situation the only way Sonic knows how: running. T'is good.

Savannah Citadel - Day; Sonic Unleashed; (2 votes/1 mentions/6 points)

This song is unadulterated magic. I feel a surge of pure happiness when the main melody kicks in.

Green Hill Zone; Sonic The Hedgehog; (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

BlizShadow

The first song of the game, the first in the series, and the first we get to hear of Sonic's world. I don't think I have significant love for the melody, but due to its sheer importance, it deserves mentioning.

Posted Image
This Machine; Sonic Heroes; (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

LuigiEspadachin

While it is my least favourite theme out of the team themes (I dunno why, dosen't feel quite as strong as the other themes, but that's probably the point), I do still like it because of its arrangement. I like how it subtly tries to reflect each character through the song in different ways, like having techno-like beats for Omega, a light metal-like sound for Shadow, and Rouge being implied in the lyrics.

Special Operative Blaire

Normally not my kind of music, but this one has such a really nice beat to it that I can't help but bob my head along.

Kingdom Valley ~Wind ~ The Castle ~ Lakeside ~ Water~; Sonic The Hedgehog (2006); (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

MysticShaid

I love the atmosphere of this stage and song makes it even better. From the start, you get seated into sort of a race for time to Eggman's battleship before it explodes while feeling like the place is mysterious. The old ruins soon take a turn as the song starts getting more mystical and tribal as well. The chanting makes it all the more epic. And finally when the song picks up, you know that you cannot mess up and you must hurry. I really wished that this stage would of been in Generations as it really deserves to be.

Special Operative Blaire

Play this song on Modern Crisis City. It fits excellently.

The Palace That Was Found; Sonic & The Secret Rings; (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

BlizShadow

I'm not sure what a song about rocking out has to do with an evil factory. If nothing else, the song might just completely undermine the environment. But that's probably more in line with Sonic's philosophy, innit? He'll make a party out of any circumstance. Overall, this song is extremely catchy and my favorite on the entire game.

MysticShaid

Much to what Bliz said, she is right. However it is not my favorite sadly. The music is tense and for people who played this game, this stage has its share of difficulty. It makes you on the edge of you seat hoping that you won't get hit by blades or spikes. It is an unusual song for an unusual setting, but it works.

Posted Image
Unawakening Float; Sonic & The Secret Rings; (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

MysticShaid

The final frontier, the source of all, this music sets up for the fight to come: Sonic vs Erazor. A very mystical theme, this makes me send chills down my spine when I listen to it. It describes the race against time with Sonic and his timely death wish. Also makes known if all that he is doing will truly fix the Arabian Nights. My favorite stage to take the icing on the cake, it has got to be one of my favorite stage theme with a perfect setting wrapped around it.

BlizShadow

he song to the final level isn't one that fawns about dashing heroics, but instead is riddled with simple lyrics about confusion, guilt, and anxiousness. Unusual for a Sonic-centric story, but it plays up the multiple conflicts of the game and the location's place in the climax, and -ironically- compelled me to want to beat it all the more.

Endless Possibility; Sonic Unleashed; (2 votes/1 mentions/5 points)

Skyscraper Scamper - Night; Sonic Unleashed (3 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

BlizShadow

This level has a bright night city aesthetic to it that almost hearkens back to the Golden Era of Hollywood. The actual song is no exception and is nostalgic and notable in that regard.

Special Operative Blaire

This song can be summed up like this; fifties-style, modern flair. Love every bit of it.

Posted Image
Jungle Joyride - Day; Sonic Unleashed (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

BlizShadow

A southeast Asian/jungle-themed treat. Strong drums, atmospheric wind instruments, and little bit of synthesizer to give the song some modernity and an undercurrent of danger. Daytime Sonic's best song.

Posted Image
Terminal Velocity - Act 1; Sonic Colors (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

Maelic

Oh my god, how do you get this cool? Like, wow, this is just...OH MAN THIS TRACK IS SO GOOD.

Posted Image
vs. Nega-Wisp Armor - Phase 2; Sonic Colors; (2 votes/0 mentions/5 points)

Maelic

This is so good that it's even better than the song it's based on. But that's been happening for a few Sonic games at this point, hasn't it? Haha. Orchestration at its finest...

I'm sure it must have been a pain in the arse to do. Thanks though Bliz, really. Maybe 2012 should be added to the title? I only say that because I would love to revisit something like this again in the future and be more of a participant in the voting process. I enjoy listening to the music with my fullest and my list has already altered compared to what I had voted some one or two months ago.

T'was fun listening back to the music. ^__^

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
Dang, it felt like I wish I had more time with some more games, but oh well. I am very impressed with this and enjoyed making lists with my nostalgia all over my body. I am very interested in maybe the forum's best ________? Would love to make another one and maybe a revisit to the music sometime in the near future.

Btw, it feels like I quote you too much Bliz, sorry about that. (Dammit I did it again XD!)

I still can't use this.

I may open another up to the games that got little to no representation this time, or perhaps I'll do one for series like "Classic," "Adventures," and so forth, or I may just do it all again. There's room for improvement, but I'll definitely be doing one for the individual games that come out in the future. So expect one when Episode 2's soundtrack hits.

And don't worry, 'TakeCare; newer threads will link back to contests prior, so you'll be able to also visit the older ones. :3

Why didn't I pay more attention to this. Well thorough list here, even I didn't see nether one of my favourites. But hey, I'm a bit out from the mainstream.
Bah! Been the lazy fella, it's no wonder. Nevertheless I'll be looking more into future updates on the possible next show, when this is turned around.
