Now this is a rather, adult game in the sonic series. I personally like it because its following the basically same format of basic game play such as sa1, sa2, heroes and sonic 06. A basic ACT format stages and bosses. Which i personally like. (different from recent ones) Well, they added guns and curse words to this game and me bieng a teenager thinking its raw and stuff. Shadow was a big character from sa2 and his surprising return in Heroes, and his dark side/bada** nature it would be ideal. With of course GUN after him too.

Lets talk about this game and say what you want to say about Shadow the Hedgehog!
That black hedgehog came here with dr. eggman!
So eggmans behind this huh?!!?

I'd hardly call it more adult. Darker than most games, yes, but adult no.

Also I'd say that it doesn't really have any curse words at all but apparently things are different in the States so...

Anyway, Shadow the Hedgehog was an alright game. I've played through it only once (by which I mean played every possible ending I can as well as obtained the true ending) and while it was interesting getting a look at some insight to Shadow's past, it was mostly a pretty average game for me. Not really one of the stronger titles in the series.

What I will say though is that it has one of the better Soundtracks I've heard. I love the music from this game. But really that's about the only thing I love to bits, unfortunately. ^^;

My! That's a pretty snazzy performance there!
Yea, same here. It feels that they tried too hard and failed to make an "adult" game so to say. However, I did have some fun with it and about once or twice a year I pick it back up and play it for the hells and the lulz. Not bad game, but not great either.

I think this may be my third favourite Sonic(?) game. Because, truth to be told, you can play as the other characters as well.

Lava Reef Act 1
Ah, Shadow the Hedgehog.

I did enjoy this game quite a bit. I've played through it multiple times, got the true ending, got maybe near one hundred different story mode endings, got all A rankings (with the help of Action Replay) and cleared Expert Mode two or three times over. I'm actually in the midst of another go through it now.

Yeah, I've played this game a lot.

In terms of the game itself, the gameplay was alright. Controls were a bit slippery, but this was hardly a problem for me since this is less of a speed-based game and more of a SHOOT DOWN EVERY F*CKING THING THAT STANDS IN YOUR WAY-based game. The darker, more "mature" air the game was trying to exude came out extremely narmy, to say the least, particularly since the only curse word they could use to stay within the E10+ rating was "damn", and they seriously overused it. I think if they wanted to go for swearing, they should have just made it T-rated so they could get away with a lot more words, on top of other things. Besides, the series had been around long enough to where most Sonic fans were 13 by '05 anyway.

The wide selection of vehicles and weapons were interesting, but there were only so many weapons and only a handful of vehicles that were actually useful. Cars control horribly, and it's probably not worth getting into one just for some free health and running enemies over. The only time they actually serve a good purpose is in Central City, where they can carry you safely over toxic waste.

As far as weapons go, all six weapon classes are pretty cool in their own right. Guns are the standard business and are the easiest to use, and the secret Shadow Rifle you get after beating the final boss is the best weapon in the game. Cannons look cool, but their manual forward-view aim makes them widely useless (as weapons. Healing Cannon is always good. Then again, all the secret weapons are awesome) except for the Tank Cannon, a hidden weapon only accessible in certain stages behind secret doors, which have a blast radius so bloody enormous you'll use it anyway for the eight shots it has.

Swords/close combat weapons are less convenient to use than the other artillery weapons, but they're much more powerful than you'd be lead to believe at first. They can kill most basic mooks with one slash and the secret Katana weapons can shoot shockwaves when it's swung, enabling you to kill enemies without running your weapon dull, since close-combat weapons have to actually touch something to lose, erm... "ammo."

Laser weapons are cool, since they go straight through enemies instead of stopping after it hits like the standard guns. They're less common, and the stages they're found in usually have more useful weapons available, but it's still fun to pick up and use every so often. Plus, the Omochao Gun is hilarious, and can bounce off walls as well as fly through killed enemies.

Lock-on weapons are probably the best in the game. Extremely powerful and can home in on enemies from a pretty awesome distance. Secret weapon for this category is the Satellite Cannon. Instead of firing missiles, this little wristwatch-sized weapon locks on to enemies and makes laser beams rain down from the heavens upon them akin to the giant lasers in Westopolis. If you see a lock-on weapon, you almost always want to pick it up. They're amazing.

Then there are the vacuum weapons. The vacuum weapons are... weird. Really weird. There are only two vacuum weapons in the game: the one used by the Black Arms and the secret Vacuum Egg weapon. The Alien vacuum sucks in Rings, items, boxes and small enemies, and can use said boxes and enemies as projectiles by holding down B/Square/X to keep them at bay and releasing the button to fire them. The Vacuum Egg cannot fire boxes/enemies, but instead sucks them up and makes the egg sac on the weapon larger. Once the Egg Bursts after 30 ammo, it will reward you with three extra lives before disappearing. This is the weapon you'll be using throughout most of Expert Mode, because trust me, you will need those lives.

I also hate how you automatically switch weapons when in/on a vehicle, but eh. ¬ ¬

Music was good, graphics were bad, but overall I think this was a fine installment to the franchise, despite what others have to say. I give it a C.

What exactly was the true ending of this game?? I've played through it a couple of times but never got through the majority of the endings. Just curious since I always hear talk of how Shadow isn't Shadow, just a robot or whatever.

Umm what do you mean? Before this game came out, about 9 out of 10 reads on that game said that Sega was looking a more adult and mature theme, which was Shadow the Hedgehog. Maybe I should do a review to fully express my feelings toward it if I can't get my point across.

Well, according to the TRUE ending of the game...

Spoiler: click to toggle

As for my thoughts on the game...haven't played much of it, to be honest. Did find the controls a little slippery though.

In my opinion, the series was already starting to take a dip when Shadow came out.
This game was nothing special in my view, you got to play as Shadow and it had a few memorable bits, the only good points I remember.

But also, the game was pretty glitchy and I didn't really like the story.
So I don't really find it to be a good game, but calling it an 'OK' game can do it justice.

I agree with Blaire, slippery controls that often made just speeding through most levels sorta difficult. And that's what I opted out for most times-- Just to stay neutral and speed through the levels. I never really unlocked very many endings because I'm terrible at stuff like that. But Shadow the Hedgehog is one of my favourite games in the series, probably 2nd behind Unleashed. I liked nearly every aspect of it. And since Shadow is my favourite character, of course I loved the fact that the game focused on him. Also, the cameos by the other characters made me feel special :3
