PS3 doesn't play PS2 games?

My 80Gig model which I got in 2008 doesn't work with PS2 games, so it must be models older than that.

No worries. When I had a X-Box360; it could play X-Box games. I have a PS3 now and I still ponder on the thought of how it can play PS1 games instead of PS2 games. I guess since the PS2 is still recieving alot more games. I guess if the PS3 could play PS2 games; Then there be no need for a PS2
