Sonic and friends are preparing to give the acorn family (or from the looks of it, Elias, his wife, and their child) an escort as they have decided to leave New Mobotropolis.

As Sonic, Tails, Amy, Antoine and Bunnie escort them out of the city, The Death Egg Mk 2 attacks, with "Egg-Swat" units making up the attack force, they fight them off effectively until Eggman sends Metal Sonic and Mecha Sally, who's appearance shocks the group immensely, as well as getting beaten down pretty badly. However, giving them a beating was not just part of Eggman's plans, the real plan of his was to send Metal Sonic after the convoy with the Acorn family and self-destruct, taking them with MS. Snively (the comic explains this issue is before the Eggman SU arc) objects, explaining that Sonic is not only there, but that Sonic could be ended right then.

Eggman objects and sends the command to Metal Sonic; Sonic, attempting to give chase, is then cornered by Mecha Sally. Antoine, now the only one left able to give chase (Bunnie no longer has cybernetics, the Tornado was destroyed, leaving Tails and Amy to fight Egg Swats), Antoine successfully stops Metal Sonic, by ripped Metal Sonic off the convoy for it to explode at a distance; With Antoine to take the force of the blast. The Death Egg leaves and Sonic takes Antoine to the Hospital, with the convoy making it's escape.

There is a bonus story, involving how Eggman knew to strike. (Ixis Naugus told him, after we get an exposition flash back of Dr. Robotnik's first meeting with the wizard).
