Sorry made a little mishap with my posting. Already PMed a Mod to get rid of the other topic. ^_^

So just gonna put down what I have so far. I've got about six pages worth (in Works) that I'm showing for now. I've got 7 pages but I'm not quite finished with the second half of the chapter. ^_^

Nightwind

I had awoken with a start, drenched and lying in what seemed to be a small puddle of my own sweat. My breathing was slow and deliberate as I tried to clear my head. Recalling the dream that woke me from my slumber was almost impossible. Only bits and pieces were vivid and even with those it was difficult to ascertain the true meaning behind it all. For weeks I have been having the same dream and it seems to be getting clearer. Before I could only remember a small fragment. Now, after carefully piecing together the fragments I believe I have a decent understanding of what it is. But the meaning still escapes me. Could it be a warning? Or something much different. I've thought about telling someone but I don't know if I'm ready for anyone else to know.

As I lay in bed staring at the ceiling and contemplating this and that, I began to hear the light pitter-patter of rain outside my room. If you would call it that. It was small. For furnishings I chose to limit myself to a small bed, with a fleece blanket and two pillows stuffed with chicken feathers; a tall oak wardrobe; a small sink, littered with old toothpaste containers and several toothbrushes as well as several medicine jars with herbs, spices, and several liquids of varying color; and for the window I decided to have a wooden plank instead of glass so that I could sleep better. Especially since my father just became village leader. Security at our home has gone through the roof. It's almost as though there expecting something to happen but they're not sure of the what or even when. All we ever get is idle threats and a couple of angry elders but nothing will ever come of those.

"Ding!" "What the hell?!" was the first thought that popped in my mind as my eyes snapped to attention. Something had disrupted the silence. Paranoia. Probably a side effect of the added security… I pushed myself into a sitting position on my bed and stretched. My flannel shirt raised with me just barely revealing my midsection. I knew the shirt was getting too small for me but I still wore it. Something about the shirt just made me want to keep it. Possibly a childhood attachment. I looked around at the room for a couple seconds before walking over to the window and propped open the wooden plank to allow light to filter into the room. The sun was already up. I shielded my eyes from the light as I looked around to see what the cause of the sound was. I glanced down and watched as my friend, Karina Missane, picked up a small bell from the ground just below my window. Karina was only a few inches shorter than me. Her hair had been styled into a bun with two chopsticks poked in between. Her chopsticks have a hidden needle that she uses for all her skills. Her hair was silky smooth by the looks of it probably due to a shower. As usual Karina took much better care of her hair than anyone else I know. She had decided to where a white robe that had been tightly woven around her body to make it look like a one piece dress. The trimming was a very pretty purple and pink mix of zigzags. And it was made of silk. She probably wore something underneath to protect her body better than the silk. Her sandals were somewhat old looking but even so they had been polished and well kept. They each had a single flower on the straps and were adorned with small jewels and pearls.

She hadn't noticed that I had opened the window yet. "Karina, why did you wake me? Isn't it Saturday?" I asked with a yawn startling her. She jumped a little bit, then quickly righted herself and dusted her pants legs off before saying, "Today may be Saturday but you did promise to come for a walk with me this morning. Did you already forget?" she chuckled.

I had forgotten about our plans. "It must have slipped my mind," I shrugged, "Let me get dressed and then we can go." I turned towards my wardrobe and pulled out a small black backpack with twelve pockets as well as a leather jacket with two outside pockets and four inside pockets. It also had a image of a black bird with outspread wings flying skyward on top of a white crescent moon. The Nightwind Clan symbol. The bag obviously had several objects inside from the light sounds that were created as I tossed it on the bed. I strolled over to the bed and dropped to my knees. I pulled out a large wooden box with a black and white design from underneath the bed. The box had two sections. The white section contained all of my white T-shirts which I opened and grabbed out one of the shirts. I set it on the bed and pulled a pair of black jeans from the black section of the box and set those down on top of the box before reaching into a small basket and putting on some fresh panties. I then proceeded to pull off my flannel shirt revealing my chest. For a girl of thirteen I still hadn't grown much in the chest region. I figured I would end up being a late bloomer much like my mother. I tossed on the shirt and pants, which already had a belt through the loops as well as my seed satchel and my slingshot holster both of which were attached to my belt on opposite sides. Seed satchel on the left and slingshot holster on the right. The slingshot awaited me on a hook at the top of my wardrobe.

"You sure are taking your sweet time," came the familiar voice of Kenji Souta at the door to my room which was right across from the window. He was smirking as he stood in the door frame. "H-how long were you there?!" I yelled hoping he hadn't been there watching me change. I've had a crush on Kenji since I was little although you'd never hear me admit it. Kenji and I've been best friends since an early age. We went to the same school together, went to the same parties together, and he's always had a smile that could easily warm any sour day. He was a year older than me. He was pretty handsome for a fourteen year old. With his soft golden-yellow hair and light-blue eyes and that adorable button nose he was the most sought after guy in the entire village. Which made me and Karina prime targets for the other girls to pick on since we were always so close to Kenji and the other girls hated that. We've been in our fair share of troubles but it's pretty basic for trainee's. And I plan to become a legend among my clan so I have to train a lot. But it's fun and I have Kenji and Karina to be there by my side. Besides it's better to live and enjoy life while I'm young.

Karina was right behind him. "We just came to check on you," she smiled as she stepped into the doorframe. "I think I'm ready. Everything should already be in my bag so we can head out now," I grinned and then strolled out the door with Karina and Kenji on my heels as they tried to keep up with my long strides. Even for a fourteen year old, technically thirteen since my birthday wasn't until tomorrow, I relatively tall standing at around 5'10". "If it makes you feel any better we only just got here," Kenji sighed as he looked around the room. It had been quite a while since he'd been in my room. Even having him stand there was enough to make me blush with embarrassment at the blandness of the small room I had chosen to occupy for the time being. At least until my living quarters had been completely finished being made to my specifications. The perks of being part of a family that was so high up in the hierarchy were pretty grand.

Our destination for the day was the northern Jungle. I stepped over to the window for a moment and peered outside of the large helix shaped building that occupied the center of the village. The mid section of the helix had a large pillar giving the building support. At the top of the pillar was where my father would run the village alongside The Council of Elders. From the room I was in I had a relatively impressive view of the northern section of our valley. My new room would be at the top of the helix on the opposite side of my father so, it would have a complete view of my home and even a small glimpse above the mountains surrounding the village.

I turned towards Karina and Kenji with a smile, "Well if we're gonna go we might as well go now," I said and then moved towards the door. Karina and Kenji followed as I made my way down the winding staircase that lead to the bottom. Upon reaching the bottom I decided to make a quick detour to the market to stock up on supplies. Only a few shops were open today which seemed odd. In fact I hadn't really seen many people on the way here. After buying a few bottles of healing salve and a new kunai set we made our way north. When we reached the edge of the jungle we quickly jumped into the trees and made our way through, using the limbs of the trees to run across and quickly move without interruption. We slowed as we heard the sound of rushing water. Breaking free of the trees revealed a waterfall and a small stream that lead towards the village.

I walked over to the pool of water wear the waterfall ended and placed my bare feet into the clear and cool water. The sound of the water mixed with the small chirps of birds here and there made for quite a relaxing environment. Karine and Kenji did the same as I and we chatted about different things ranging from the weather to my father's new position.

After a little while I stood up and stretched, reaching toward the sky and letting the suns rays hit my skin. A few hours passed without much happening so I decided that I was going to head back. The sun had reached it's peak and my stomach was beginning to growl. Karina came out of the water just as I was grabbing my bag, "So you guys hungry?" I asked tossing the bag over my shoulder. Kenji looked up from a book that he had been reading, "We could go get some steak. I heard there's a new restaurant that just opened up in town and I've been wanting to go try it. I'll stop at my place and meet you both there," he closed his book and then placed it in his bag. He then stood up, stretched for a moment and then took off down a path through the trees. I waited for Karina to get her stuff together and then we headed off towards the village.

"So how's the new room coming along?" Karina asked a short ways into the walk. "They said it should be finished before the ceremony next week. Hopefully sooner if there is no delay in getting the materials for the job," I said. "How's your family? Your dad still missing?" I asked after a few moments. Karina's dad had been missing for a month now. He had gone off on a mission that should have only taken him a week but he hasn't come back. No word had been received from his team. Some assumed they were lost. Others assumed the worst. Karina, however, was holding on to a sliver of hope that he may be alive. But with each passing day I can see that she's losing herself. I've known her for so long that it's easy to tell when something is bothering her.

"Yeah. They've sent a search party but so far no one has returned with any news. They won't even tell us what the mission was," she sighed. By 'they' she probably meant the Council. My father is still trying to get them to be less harsh on the populace. They've always been harsh but recently they've been outright relentless and forthcoming with their 'decisions'. Scolding people for simple mistakes, sending tax collector's to collect on debts that were a few days past due, and other kinds of minor problems that shouldn't be there concern. Nothing short of a disbanding of the Council might be in order. For too long they've controlled our people and at times made us live in fear for there own personal machinations and designs.

"Well when he gets back I'll take us all out for dinner. He's probably going to be starving anyways," I laughed. Karina cracked a smile. As we left the safety of the canopy of trees we could smell the scent of food being prepared all across the village. With the village enclosed as it is the scents are able to mingle and create a beautiful aroma that would send your taste buds into a frenzy. Especially if you hadn't eaten breakfast as I had skipped it. Which meant I was really looking forward to chowing down on some steak and udon noodles. And maybe a bowl of fried rice on the side. My mouth was watering by the time Karina and I arrived at the restaurant. It was a small place with glass windows and a wooden door. The outside walls were painted green and inside the walls had an almost ivory color to them. There were booths with white leather seating. In the back was a door which probably lead into the kitchen. On the right wall was a long counter with a barkeep. Behind him was a large selection of different sodas all in glass bottles.

I got us a booth and ordered drinks while we waited for Kenji to show up. Not long after they had received their drinks Kenji walked in. I waved him over and we all lightly sipped on our sodas. I had decided to try the orange-strawberry. It was surprisingly flavorful and extremely smooth. Karina was drinking her usual apple-cinnamon and Kenji had a glass of iced tea. As we drank our tea a small skirmish broke out in the street outside. "I wonder what that's all about. I recognize Kota but the others are foreign to me. They kinda look like military personnel," Kenji said after a few moments of silence, "Skye go check it out and see what's up. If you need to break it up. We don't need this getting out of hand." I nodded as I quickly stood up and briskly walked out the door.

"You little brat!" one of the soldiers yelled as Kota smacked the soldier in the head with a rock. "Teach him a lesson," the other soldier said as he raised his weapon. It was a longsword with notched edges at the base of the blade. On the crest of the hilt an engraving of a phoenix flying skyward. The pommel had a small blue gemstone and glittered in the sunlight. The blade was bright as well and seemed to have a faint golden glow to it. "Hey no need to get violent. He's just a kid," I yelled as I stepped between the boy and the soldiers. Kota stood to his full height, "Thanks Skye..." he mumbled a bit. He was 5' so he wasn't nearly as tall as the soldiers. However he could easily out power them with his size. Weighing in at 286 Lbs, Kota was a force to be reckoned with when he needed to be. Although he rarely enjoys using his full strength. He's rather shy and because of this he's not much of a fighter. But he knows how to defend himself with projectiles so he sticks to that rather than fight them full on.

"Step aside. Or would you rather us play with you instead," the first soldier said. His armor was black with small gold markings along outside edges. Their faces were hidden behind helmets and their voices seemed to be distorted when they spoke. On the back of the armor was a large phoenix flying skyward just like on the hilt of their swords. "It would be wise of you to state your business and then leave before you end up in a body bag," I said with anger in my voice. The soldier tilted his head in an almost questioning manner. "And why should I tell a young girl such a thing," he laughed. His laugh was bone chilling, almost evil.

"Because this "young girl" just so happens to be at the top of her class at the academy. In fact your talking to Skye Nightwind. Daughter of Garsvald and Kalira Nightwind. And the one who will be stomping your face into the concrete if you don't state your business now. And by the way that's not a threat. That's a promise," I said as I pulled out two kunai from a hidden compartment in the back of my jacket. My eyes seemed almost menacing when I said that. The one thing in the world that I hated most always was those who pick on the week. I'd taken it upon myself to protect all those who were weak from a young age.

"So the girl's important, eh? Well then we should definitely bring her in for so... questioning," the second soldier laughed, "So come along with us little girl and we'll treat you to a nice time." He seemed serious. Which meant I would have to more than likely fight. The first soldier edged forward and then tried to swing at me. However I was too fast for him and was already in the air, flipping over him and landing behind him where I quickly took a stab at the weak spot in the back of the armor. He howled in pain as my blade embedded itself in his pelvic bone. It had no trouble piercing due to the sharpness of the blade. I pulled it out which caused his pelvic bone to create a loud snap as the bone broke clean in two from the weight of the armor. He crumpled to the ground just as I flicked the blood off my blade and turned to the other soldier. "I ask you again. What is your business here?" I said calmly as I took a couple steps forward. He seemed to be in shock as he could only stare at his companion writhing in pain as he lay on the ground. The broken soldier gasped for a few moments and then was silent. The other soldier tried to turn tail and run however I threw my kunai at his exposed back. It hit sending him to the ground.

I stepped forward and tied him up quickly. I then proceeded to remove his helmet which revealed a scraggly young man with light brown hair and brown eyes. He had a scar over his right eye. His right eye was completely white as well. "You want to know why I'm here?" he laughed as he coughed up a small amount of blood. "Hehe Well I'm sorry to say that I can't tell you that. Against standards, you know. I can tell you that you should watch your back. Your world may not be the same for long," he laughed again and he kept laughing. That maddening laugh. It was scary and powerful and seemed to permeate the air with it's malice. I quickly stabbed yet another kunai into him this time in his face. He gurgled a bit of blood for a moment and then he too was silent. I stood up, flicking my kunai to clean off the blade of the blood I had just spilt. Kota thanked me briefly and then told me they had been looking for someone important however he couldn't get anything out of them before they wanted to kill him without warning.

I looked at the corpses as their blood created a small puddle around them. After a small sigh I then turned and walked back into the restaurant. I took my seat as if nothing had happened. "I still don't see how you can remain calm after killing someone like that. You're so very nonchalant about it," Karina said after swallowing some of her food. "She's used to it by now. Especially since she has had to fight and train so much just to protect herself. You forget, Karina, that Skye is next in line to be Chief so of course she has had to fight off more than her fair share of enemies. To her those two probably seemed like mere fools. They sure fought like fools," Kenji sighed as he finished off his last bite and leaned back cleaning his teeth with a toothpick that he grabbed from the middle of the table. I was silent. What the man said troubled me. "What could he have meant by, 'Your world may not be the same for long.'" I thought about it to no avail.

"I'm gonna go for a walk. Afterwards if you both want we can meet back at the usual place," I said after I paid for my food and walked out leaving Karina and Kenji still sitting there with plates halfway finished. I let my feet do the walking not paying much attention to where I was going. After about twenty minutes of walking I looked around and noticed that I was standing in front of a fountain. It was twice my height and embedded into a rocky wall. On both sides of the fountain there was a bench. The fountain came from the center of a large bowl. The back of the fountain was concave so the bowl was set halfway into the wall. I had never been to this place so I made a mental picture of it just in case I ever needed it. It was at the end of an alleyway and a few feet to my left was a staircase. "I guess I should figure out where I am," I thought as I dropped a coin into the fountain and then made my way up the stairs. At the top you could see the village below with my home directly in the center. I hadn't realized I'd walked clear across the village in such a short time. After making note of a quick route back to the jungle on the other side I ran down the stairs on my way back to meet up with Karina and Kenji.
