A sort of addendum (or whatever it is). I actually rather like Sonic Blast. It's not spectacular, but it has a sort of charm for me for some reason. Of course, I prefer the Master System version, like with all the Sonic game gear games. |

Sonic and Raven! :3

o.O You're probably one of the few Sonic fans that enjoyed Sonic Blast, especially the SMS port. (The ratio on screen makes it look funky as they didn't fix it to fill the whole screen... might want to look at it's source code and see if I could change the ratio one day...) I've heard nothing but positive things about Sonic Battle, so I really should check that out now.

Also, I almost kinda like Sonic Genesis. It's definitally a bad port, I know, but I find the physics more hilarious that rage-inducing. It's like a challenge. I don't even mind the music, though that's just me. |

Angel Island Act 1

Definitely Heroes. Lots of people hate on it for this or that about controls, but honestly, a lot of its' control issues and such came from the fact that it was forcefully ported to the PS2, when it was made for the GameCube. The GameCube version is heaven compared to the PS2 version in both controls and more sound effects and things that weren't on the PS2 version. I haven't played it, but the XBox version is supposedly better than the PS2 version as well. Heroes was just really vibrant and fun, for me. Great music, cool team system, epic final boss fights with both Eggman and Metal, etc. There was some repetition between some of the teams and the levels for sure, but that's no reason to not really enjoy the game. |

Something I forgot to mention was Sonic 4. I've only played Episode I, but so far, I really like it. It seems that the majority of hate for it comes from the fact that it doesn't play like the classics, which it was advertized to do; however, I still think it's a fun game. The physics are a bit wonky, yes, but the stages are fun to go through and the alternate paths makes a return. (There aren't too many, but it was a start.) I find it overall an enjoyable game that deserves more attention from the fans. Was it absolutely great? No, but it sure is underrated. |

It all starts with this... A jewel containing the ultimate power! Every world has its end. I know that's kinda sad, but... That's why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have. At least, that's what I figure. -Sonic the Hedgehog | |

Flying Battery Act 1

I'm a little bit surprised that I haven't posted in this thread yet. xD; But, now that I'm here... Sonic Battle comes to mind as underrated. The gameplay isn't your traditional "Sonic" gameplay, whether from the 2D games or the 3D games, but I find it really fun. I've seen reviewers compare it to Super Smash Bros., but you really have to stretch your imagination to see this comparison properly. The music is brilliant as well, and it's especially so considering that it's on the Game Boy Advance. But what really made the game for me is the story. Out of every Sonic game ever released, I believe that Sonic Battle has the best story and the greatest characterization-- albeit with some degree of exaggeration, especially in Knuckles' case, although not enough so to make the characters someone they aren't. Emerl's character development over all of the "episodes" is amazing-- particularly during Cream's episode-- and very consistent. The ending is terribly tragic; not even SA2 is as sad, although admittedly I would say that SA2's ending is more bittersweet than tragic anyways. Sonic Heroes comes to mind as well, but part of this for me is for nostalgia reasons. I played the PS2 version, which is generally regarded as the 'bad' version, so I can't say I had the top of the line experience here. The story was terribly weak, with a few nice tidbits of foreshadowing for Shadow the Hedgehog. The gameplay, in contrast, is great. I had a lot of fun with this game. Having mentioned Shadow the Hedgehog, I might as well bring up that game as well. I've seen a lot of opinions on this game, whether positive or negative. I honestly really enjoyed the story, whichever path I took, and I found that Shadow 'generally' had a consistent personality whatever way I chose to end a level. The gameplay takes my favourite elements from Sonic Heroes, and then it adds in weapons and vehicles. I've heard a lot of negative things in regards to the weapons and vehicles, but I honestly really enjoyed them. Rail grinding was vastly improved too, which is another thing I really like about this game. |

Angel Island Act 1

2D: Probably no surprise for me saying this, but I think Sonic CD is vastly overlooked by the popularity of Sonic 2. None of my friends owned a Sega CD at the time so I was the only one who had the game and enjoyed it to no end. Then when they would come over and play it, they felt that it was basically Sonic 1 with time travel. I was severely disappointed with them. And now on the internet? I barely find people who like the series. I don't think it's a case of people hating the concept as much as A) Not many people knew about the game; or B) the gameplay elements, such as getting Time Stones, or the level designs being somewhat different from the rest of the original Sonic trilogy. I still think it's a wonderful game, and is my favorite 2D Sonic game, but it feels like nobody gives it any love. Ah well, everybody's a critic. 3D: Sonic Heroes. I know everybody was expecting Sonic Adventure 3, but Heroes' gameplay was not that bad. Character switching is easy, the level design was around the same as Adventure standards, the graphics were smooth, and the music I thought was even MORE of an improvement to Adventure 2. However, I will admit that I usually skip over Team Rose and Team Chaotix everytime I try to do a legitimate playthrough, with Rose being boring as hell and Chaotix being too frustrating.
