I guess this topic may only apply to those who lived majority of the 90's but I'm not too worried about it.
Has anyone else noticed that SEGA has gotten really lazy with their logo at the start of games?

Example.
Sonic 3: Sonic came crashing into the SEGA logo.
Astal: He turned four enemies into the SEGA logo.
Tempo: A sound wave occurred in the logo.
Virtua Racing: The logo made a flap similar to a flag.
Earthworm Jim 2: Who wants to know?

Today?
Sonic Colors: The woosh of lights that formed into the words SEGA.
Aliens vs. Predator: The woosh of lights that formed into the words SEGA.
Vanquish: The woosh
It's the same damn thing over and over and over!!!
Much like the video game industry 2006-Present.
ARGH!

Your thoughts?

(I know this was supposed to go into the "SEGA General" forum but who reads it.)

Yep.
It was neat to see them doing a new thing for the SEGA logo. Kinda reminds me of Nitrome.com

But i'm okay with the whoosh. What's wrong with it? The repetitiveness? I dunno, SEGA doesn't really need to keep coming up with new ways to show the SEGA logo.

I still can't use this.

I don't shell out $50-60 for a couple seconds' worth of reminding me who the publisher is.

But you would agree that it would be very creative and would make the game 10 times more interesting than it already is, not to say they aren't interesting.

After pondering this for many days now I'd like to hear some creative ideas on what certain SEGA titles could have done with their logo.

I had one for Aliens vs. Predator where the motion tracker blip is inside of the SEGA logo.
After a split second or two you'd hear the motion tracker noise and then the Predator sound.
Then!
The logo would go into a Predator type sight with the heat sensing and what not and you see the little triangular red dots come up.
THEN!
It would shoot and out comes acid from the SEGA logo.
All in about 5 seconds.

Another one I had was for Sonic Generations where it would be the same thing as Sonic 2's/Sonic 4's where modern Sonic runs to the left creating some of it.
Then classic Sonic runs to the right finishing the entire logo.
Then maybe we could have heard that "SEGA" scream like in the commercials and Sonic 3D Blast for Genesis.
It's all very excellent sounding.

EDIT: Holy bejesus!
I just noticed that the Max character whose been posting in my thread has a post count of 999.
Flip that and it becomes fudgeing scary.

The game would become more interesting? Like, 4 seconds of a producer logo would make the game much more interesting?

I understand how you feel, snow. But a different logo every time would take from the actual game. Granted five seconds isn't much, I rather have five extra seconds of gameplay.

Uhm. Short, introductory logos do not take away from game length at all. A game's design and subsequently its length are relatively established for years regardless of what they plan to do with the logos in production and post. You will not somehow get extra game play by the shortening or elimination of generic logo screens.

Oh, well uh. :U

Excuse my ignorance, I could have sworn that it did.

On an unrelated note, I sent a username change request earlier today. So how does that get approved?

It's equivalent to suggesting that The Lion King's length changes depending upon the Disney logo at the beginning. The original film's actual running time is always 87 minutes regardless of the various logos they use for different re-releases; you're not somehow getting more film if they decide to use a shorter logo. =P Same with games.

(xP They get approved when someone bothers to check on them.)

To be honest, it's a standard logo they use, and it really doesn't take too much away. Some 20 years from now the story might go a little more like "Man, you remember that SEGA logo with the woosh noise and the three colored lights? Good times...". It's a lot easier to have one logo that they can just re-use for their games, it's gives all their games a sense of collection and standard, and maybe in a few years that standard will become nostalgia, kinda how the PS1 start up screen can now be easily recognized by it's sound alone.

Earthworm Jim 2: Who wants to know?

adding to that, you forgot vectorman. when you started it up, you actually controlled Vectorman in a background that had the SEGA logo, and you could do all kinds of stuff there, including a minigame where you catch the letters "S" "E" "G" and "A"". Depending on how many letters you caught, you can level warp.

Now THAT was cool.

As for today, You forgot another startup.

It was in HoTD: Overkill (Yes, i'm actually talking about an HoTD game for once!!). The Logo comes in as if it was an old-time movie. The rest is history. Nothing exciting there.

Sonic and Kunckles: Sonic lands on top of a platform with Knux. Now THAT was awesome. (And as that was the first ever sonic game i've ever played, that was my fave part too lolz)
