![]() Tribes: Ascend is an upcoming free-to-play multiplayer-only first-person shooter part of the Tribes franchise. It is currently being developed by Hi-Rez Studios (the creators of Global Agenda) and was announced on March 11, 2011 at PAX East with an expected release in early 2012. Like other games in the series, gameplay is immensely fast-paced with three-dimensional combat over a wide playing area because of extensive use of jet pack-powered flight, which adds a notable vertical element to combat. As such, playing style varies dramatically from player to player, and from moment to moment. A class system is present, with nine classes from three types to choose from, but only three of those twelve are available from the start. Vehicular combat is also present but slightly downplayed in comparison to the previously featured titles. There are three game-types as of far that have been shown: a standard Team Deathmatch gametype akin to the Battlefield series, Capture the Flag, and a mode called 'Rabbit' in which is akin to Juggernaut in a different fashion. In which all players scramble for a single flag and hold it for as long as possible. While holding it, the flag-bearer instantly becomes everyone's enemy and prime target. Also, unlike other games in the franchise. Ascend makes use of an experience-based system that carries over from game to game to unlock classes, upgrades to equipment, and etcetera. Players gain experience by participating in games through a variety of means, such as executing a player in midair with a grenade or capturing the flag. After the end of a match, all a player's experience points will be gathered up and depending on whether you win or lose, maybe multiplied. Most unlocks require tremendous amounts of experience points, alternatively, a player may pay real cash to acquire a form of currency known as 'Tribes Gold', which are worth much more than experience points and can make the unlock process easier. Currently the game is in closed beta testing, people can easy enter the closed beta however through two different means. By either pre-ordering the game itself which will ensure you with a closed beta pass or alternatively, like their Facebook page and go to their beta key giveaway application on their page. Hurry, for this offer is only valid until February 22th. You may also just simply wait for the open beta or the full release, since the game is free to play anyway. Dude... I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! I remember when Halo was newish and all and I had it on my PC and my cousin would always come over and say, "wanna play Halo?" and I was always like, "No way, I'd rather play Tribes". He was just one of those people who played what was "popular" and couldn't understand why I liked Tribes 2 so much more but in comparison Tribes 2 is just a way better game than Halo was. Tribes 2 is still one of my favorite games ever. I really want it but I don't know if my PC will be able to play it. I wish they made it for PS3 with mouse/keyboard support. Tribes 2 was ported to PS2 called Tribes: Aerial Assault, albeit it wasn't nearly as good as the PC version. |

Oh hell yea! Another Tribes lover! I was playing the hell out of the original game in the nineties and when Tribes 2 came out, I was like... "Balls! This game is awesome! You fly around and blow people up and capture the flag!" While, I can't really pick favorites since I love Halo and Tribes equally, I definitely can say Tribes is one my favorite game franchises as well. As for the computer-console issue, while they said that right now Ascend is PC-Exclusive at the moment, they haven't ruled out the possibility of console ports of it... so you might see Ascend for the PS3/360 sometime soon. Also, I just found out that Tribes: Ascend will not have mods from the start, along with dedicated servers... my heart is hurting now. But they said once the Ascend community grows enough, they will make these two tools for the public. |

Oh wow, Metallix is a Tribes lover? Awesome. ![]() And as long as we do get modding tools before too long, I'm fine with it. More fun to enjoy the actual game first, anyway

Indeed, it took me by total surprise as well... I didn't know he played the series as well! The more the merrier! Maybe we can get a Tribes group on =SB= going on here for Ascend. So let's start by adding some friends to our list, my Ascend account/character/whatever name is Virgelion. Edited by Virgil, Feb 6 2012, 11:28 PM.

Yeah, that's not really hard to guess... unless there somehow happened to be another Telnaior in the game but the likelihood of that happening is so slim it's impossible. |

The Tribes 2 demo is what got me hooked. I played that for years until the full game was offered for free. It was the only game that the demo was so good I didn't really need the full game. lol I played the full game for years as well and still do from time to time with the Tribes Next mod that allows you to play it despite the main server being shut down. |
