Do you think anything's gone wrong or is wrong with society? Like a lot of people get bullied for no reason, and a lot of people are just being judged and stuff like that. I'm one of those people, lol but uh yeah.. Uh I guess we just talk about society here. Say what you think is wrong and should be fixed in society and say what is not wrong and shouldn't be fixed in society. I guess this is kinda a debate thing? It can be one if you like but I just want to make one thing clear; everyone's opinions are accepted. No flaming, anything like that. Everyone accepts everyone's opinions no matter whether you like it or not. Okay? Okay. Just wanted to make that clear. Now, discuss about society. |

It really depends what society you are talking about. Are you talking about a specific country's society? The forum's society? Because I know for a fact that women in middle-eastern countries get treated real unfairly. |

This is indeed a really broad topic. There's a lot of bad shit going on right now that it's difficult to start anywhere. Off the top of my head that's going on in just the US alone, and this list is hardly comprehensive: Overpopulated orphanages, overpopulated prisons, prison rape, officer abuse, the drug war, cartels, wealth disparity, corporate personhood, embarrassing public school education standards, intelligent design being pushed as science, unyielding teacher's unions, anti-consumer business practices in Hollywood that have helped lead to the recent net neutrality disputes, the lack of initiative on prosecuting criminals in government and business that led to this recession, Guantanamo bay, homophobic measures and activities that have led to teen suicide, the vilification and negative effect on women's health the fight against abortion has caused, human trafficking in Native American settlements, Rick Santorum's very existence. I mean, it would help if the op went on and started us off by outlining an issue. |

People in general are one giant clusterffff... and it is almost our nature to be bad to one another. Dealt with the "class" issues in school but it wasn't often a big issue, the bigger problem are my neighbors who are constantly harassing people on the block, specifically my house and things me and my mom own because they're straight-outta-prison jackasses who still live with their moms and have never attempted to make a living for themselves aside from shuttling drugs.. and apparently they can't stand people who make money the right way. There are a lot of bad issues in the world but I think that a lot of the violence and hate stems from the fact that humans just seem to be hateful, ignorant creatures by nature. |

1: Humans are imperfect. 1.1: Anything constructed by humans is imperfect. 2: Society is a human construction. Conclusion: Society is imperfect as long as it is formed by the collective human intelligence. At least, I think I have the argument grammar right. Maybe points 1 and 1.1 are supposed to be the other way around? I forget. Point being... god I'm too tired to handle this right now, hang on... uh... People suck. People will always suck. Humans as a species are motivated individually by two things; fear and greed. We can't escape that, as much as we might wish to, so inevitably there will be problems when our individual desires clash. At least, I think those points are related. Er. Look, as unfortunate as it is, there's always gonna be unfairness and conflict in the world. You can't change that fundamental rule, but that's why people dedicate their lives to fighting it, trying to make things just a little bit better even if it's only for a short while. Can't have a good story without antagonists you know. |

Now wait a minute guys. Everyone seems to just blame it on people like if there where the root of all evil, in general. Let me just put things in this form. What's harder? To build a structure or to make it crumble? ... That easy and that's how society works. It takes a lot of work to make society work and run like a clockwork machine, the problem is that a single problem can make it cripple and if things get bad, stop. I'm not saying it isn't people fault. I'm saying is that it takes a few to destroy the work of many. |

If it takes a few people to destroy society (which I think is a gross exaggeration but I'll run with it), that's still a fundamental human problem, because they were ignorant or evil enough to do it in the first place. |

Damn, I wish I saw this topic earlier. Everyone has said, in one way or another, what I was going to say, for the most part. Every society has its bad people, that can be assumed to be factual (Or damn close to it). Society as a concept is not, in my opinion, flawed. However, the varying degrees of personality amongst its members can be construed as flawed. You'll always have your sociopaths, your bullies, your "sheeple". Rather than blame society, you may as well blame the ability of the human to think and rationalize one's behavior for the problems of a community. Edited by D-Metal X, Feb 5 2012, 02:03 PM.

When I said society, I meant really any problems. I was kind of just focusing on bullying and suicide, self harm and stuff like that that Society pushes onto people to do and stuff, but the other issues work too. But I will admit people are the cause why society is so jacked up. People can be very ignorant and rude and stuff, people try to make it better but people are so rude and ignorant and won't listen which keeps the cycle of the bad society going, I guess. |

To sum up my opinion, I only need one line: Society: another thing that humans have massacred. Simply, humans, are too worried about acceptance, whether it be among peers, god, or anything else. They're so caught up in what others want that they don't stop to consider what actually is supposed to be common sense (do NOT mention how rare this is). You see it all the time in other people; for example, you see a girl piercing her face to join a certain cliche (or however you spell it). You don't see a lot of sense in that, now do you? It looks like mother was right when she said for you not to worry what others think too much. (Coincidentally, I'm listening to "Waiting on the World to Change" as I type this.) |

Society is flawed when its purpose is to move together as a collective whilst all of our individual desires, flaws, and social stimulants send us all in so many wayward directions. If the members that make up the collective are flawed, the collective is flawed by extension, that's just how it is. Nice people who are genuinely nice all the time with no ulterior motives (money, friendship/love, religious conversion, just some sort of reward) are extremely rare, chances are you have never met that kind of person or never will.. They are the exception to the rule as are many close to them in the spectrum. |

At least nobody's talking about the 'decline' of society. People have been talking about the decline of society long before the Common Era. In truth, society has been 'declining' since it was invented. But doesn't actually break down, it merely transforms into something else. |
