Jordan, Alex Russel Release Date: Feb. 1 (UK), Feb. 3 (US) Synopsis Three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to their developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over. Rotten Tomatoes It arrives during a glut of found-footage films, but Chronicle transcends its gimmicks with a smart script, fast-paced direction, and engaging performances from its young, talented cast. Tomatometer: 85% So yeah... it's basically an Americanized Akira but done with some semblance of talent- kids get telekinesis and it all goes to Hell. Also a surprising reveal from some reviews is that the camera work doesn't get in the way despite its "found footage" style. Anyone interested?

Currently attempting to return. I tried to watch Akira but ... lets just say I stop the movie to search a little and realize the movie was +18. So this is the second best option. Plus the premise show a lot of possible outcomes, with could be interesting.

But this movie reminds me of Jumper for some reason. And I've add my ideas for a power fuel kid in middle 21 century so yeah, I'm going to see this movie.

I just hope I do not get queasy... I actually got sick watching Cloverfield and had an upset stomach with Quarantine. Motion sickness is so lame.

But yeah i want to go see this, loved Akira and seen the rumours about this film coming out for ages so yup will go to see what it's like :o)

Despite my hype, it was better than I expected, primarily because it doesn't bullshit the audience. Spoilers The movie pulls no punches with its various subject matters: Domestic abuse, alcoholism, bullying, the toll of cancer, and death are prevalent and pretty raw. If the above doesn't imply it, this is a character-centric piece and a good look into teenage life. A great deal of the film is spent with the protagonists merely goofing off with their powers and developing their bonds whilst the anti-hero, Andrew, struggles with life. The focus on character is a good thing; the 3D effects are obvious, but not enough to ruin the experience. If anything, the flight sequence is probably the most fake sequence of them all, but at the same time, it's the most enjoyable in its sincerity and execution. Andrew is extremely sympathetic and delivers a great finale which is-again- in the vain of Akira, and leads to a conclusion that also doesn't cop out. You will feel very depressed, even if you know how it has to end. Like most found-footage films, there's no crappy soundtrack to burden the film-making and turn it into some sloppy dude-bro affair. Unlike most found footage films, the telekinesis allows the characters to place the camera wherever they want and make the experience more steady and traditional. Yae.

Poseidon Adventure is now an inside joke with my friends because of this movie. xD

The entire thing was very engrossing, and as a result of the low running time, the whole climax felt a bit too swift. Someone also had a very interesting point about the dynamic between the three mains: Spoiler: click to toggle Have Andrew kill Matt instead of Steve. Steve was the more compelling (and likable) protagonist, allowing Andrew to confide in him more despite being on the total opposite end of the high school food chain. Killing a blood relative would've also called more attention to his ambiguous intentions and burgeoning anger issues. It also would've raised the drama of the climax that much more, if that can be believed. Plus, it would've avoided Dead Black Guy Syndrome. <<+ C'mon, it's 2012. Can we stop this? I'm not even going to ask about Poseidon Adventure. xD

And as for killing a blood relative, Andrew was pretty intent on killing his dad but I suppose that doesn't count as much? xD I think the movie wanted to avoid the high school class warfare kind of theme, since I have to admit I would be kind of pissed if the popular jock got to be the hero even if the picked on, depressed, nerd kid was a bad guy in the end.. he was put in his condition by bad circumstances that were enhanced by those types of people, even if Steve was a nice one it was true that they never were really "friends" until they all got their powers. Awwwww xD
