So far in the next gen of Dragonball games, we've seen Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Burst Limit, Raging Blast, Raging Blast 2, and Ultimate Tenkaichi. I might be missing a couple but I'm only including PS3, 360, and Wii. Not any of the arcade games or PSP/DS games. Everyone seems to agree that Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is the all around BEST Dragonball game to date, right? But the problem with that is not just one... It's only for the Wii and PS2, the Wi-Fi play is extremely laggy, and the graphics are out of date compared to it's follow-ups (Burst Limit and Raging Blast) by far. So what do you guys think of these games? Which ones should have sequels? Should BT4 be released for the Wii; or should RB3 or UT2 be released? The Wii's been neglected the past few years, but the replayability on BT3 keeps it in line, in my my opinion. Even with the totally derailed-from-cliche-Dragonball game that came out recently for the Wii, because it's not a fighting game.

Side note: I have a dilemma. Should I save up to get Ultimate Tenkaichi or get RB1 or should I get RB2? Thanks, guys!

Discuss Dragonball. :)

Rejoice, for bad things are about to happen!
Well, I'm a big fan of the Dragonball series in general, but out of all these games the only one I've played is Budokai Tenkaichi 3, I really enjoyed that but could never get the hang of playing it with a wii-mote, all the special attacks required specific movement of the Wiimote to pull off. I always played with a game cube controller. Anyways, with that being the only one I've played I can't really help you with your dilemma

I highly suggest you get Dragonball Z Budokai for Gamecube(since you have a Wii and the GameCube version is tweaked from the original PS2 version) and Dragonball Z Budokai 3(the best platform DB fighting game PERIOD) for the PlayStation 2(since for some odd reason they only put the first Budokai installment on the GameCube and stopped there). Those will not disappoint at all. Simple controls, great gameplay, beautiful graphics(in B3's case), and excellent cutscenes(which are only in Budokai, not Budokai 3- but Budokai 3 has a totally better story mode!)

"I didn't use the whole thing ...."
In my opinion Ultimate Tenkaichi came close to capturing the spirit of the anime while at the same time being a rather fun game to play in its own right, Too bad many Dragonball fans didn't like it because it wasn't a straight up button masher and you actually had to think about what you were doing.
Also it had that character creation mode, always a plus for me.

Actually the reason I disliked Ultimate Tenkaichi is because it was really flashy, yet provided little substance. Honestly, the game did most of the stuff for you. What looks like a fancy combo on screen is really three simple button presses which lead to a chase sequence in which you have to try and outwit your opponent by pressing the opposite attack button to what they pressed, building up your spirit gauge or lowering theirs in the process. You pretty much rinse and repeat this throughout the whole match give or take a special or two and the whole thing gets rather repetitive and boring.

As for the character customisation, it was really shallow. Chose one of three types. Depending on which one you pick, you can learn different moves (with Light and Heavy getting the short ends of the stick). You can only be male. You can only be a sayian. You only have very basic outfits until you unlock more. It was just rather... lacking in the end. What if I wanted to be a Namekian or an Android? What if I wanted a female character? What if I wanted my heavy dude to learn Goku's Kamehameha? Bleh.

So while it captured the spirit well, as a game it was rather meh. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm managed to both capture the spirit AND play like a fun game. A shame they couldn't do the same with this.

Anyway, as far as DBZ games go I have trouble picking between B3 and BT3 as my favourite personally. Raging Blast was alright, but basically served as a graphically updated version of the Tenkaichi series, minus a lot of the characters in BT3. I've probably played BT3 more, but B3 felt more like a proper fighter to me.

Plus it had this:

Still the best opening in the whole game series in my opinion. We need more like this one. Ultimate Tenkaichi's was a step in the right direction but just didn't quite get there for me.

But seriously, man do I love this opening. <3

I used to wake up every morning, grab a snack, and turn on my PS2 just for Budokai 3. I would then proceed going around humming the opening and my mom would wake up and complain. Not only was it a proper fighter, but the story mode was grand and highly explorable. Such nostalgia. They did everything right.
But as for the Ultimate Tenkaichi and Raging Blast games, I would say: Raging Blast for story, Raging Blast 2 for graphics and gameplay, and Ultimate Tenkaichi for a little something new. I actually like "Rock, Paper, Scissors" kinds things(which you had to do a lot in Budokai 3 in case the nagging critics forgot), so I do hope to get Ultimate Tenkaichi soon. I settled for Raging Blast until I can beat the story mode. But it barely has any legitimate cutscenes... Rather disappointing...
