I'll be there every step of the way...
 Let's think mostly along the lines of recurring characters, here. That excludes characters like Chip or Yacker.

So... We all know the Sonic cast.
Obviously, to make an effective easy-to-follow story, it's hard to pour all of those characters in at the same time.
Sonic Heroes got close (but if you notice, its story was simple)... But now we have even more characters, so to pull of something like that again would be a stretch.
So, I beg the question, what's your dream team?
Who would you like to see receive more character analysis?
Is it time the Dark guys (Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Eggman) got some more backstory focus?
Do you even remember what Angel Island is, though? What about 'ol Knux?
Do you support the addition of new characters?
Do you think, maybe, the Babylon Rogues deserve a part in a main entry?
Should Silver/Blaze's confusing and conflicting stories be solidified, or should Sega just get a move on and let you wonder?
Was Unleashed okay with only Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Eggman?
What about Colors, man...? That was even minus Amy!

DISCUSS CAST ARRANGEMENTS.

 I agree, I would love to see Team Hooligan back the games. They'll be so epic and be great enemy for the good guys. Man.. these guys.. I feel they are so underated.

However, on my terms with the Sonic cast, does anyone besides me think that Sonic needs a break, so the other characters get some spotlight? (And no, we're not going back to Shadow the Hedgehog terriority.)

 I agreed with you ChAoSBounD, but I did like shadow's game though, I prefer the way that game was over most titles after it. Anyway, I'd really like to see the chaotix with their own game again, or at the very least, knuckles and the echidnas from space ripped off of the dark legion from the archie comics. Other then that, either shadow2(with rouge and Omega this time) or Silver. I can't think of anyone else from the series that out to have their own title, or be interested in anyway.
