I don't know how many Comic Book fans are here, but I thought I'd go ahead and post this:

Green Arrow Drama From Greg Berlanti And Marc Guggenheim Nears Pilot Order At CW
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

The CW is finalizing a deal for a pilot order to Arrow, an hourlong superhero drama based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow. It is written and executive produced by The Green Lantern co-writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and Fringe and Vampire Diaries alum Andrew Kreisberg. I hear that David Nutter is interested in directing the project, which takes the comic book character, created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, and sets him in a new world with an original story that is not based on the comics, published by DC Entertainment. Arrow, produced by Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti’s studio-based Berlanti Television, was developed by Berlanti and Guggenheim who came up with the story and then brought in Kreisberg to co-write the script with them. Kreisberg, who has comics experience, having written DC Comics’ Green Arrow and Black Canary among other books, previously worked with Berlanti and Guggenheim on their ABC drama Eli Stone.

First introduced in an 1941 edition of More Fun Comics, Green Arrow is a superhero dressed like Robin Hood who is an archer using trick arrows, including glue, net, tear gas and even kryptonite arrows. His secret identity is billionaire Oliver Queen. This marks the character’s return to the CW where it was a fixture on the Superman-inspired Smallville for several years. Portrayed by Justin Hartley (below right), who is not attached to Arrow, Oliver Queen/Green Arrow was introduced in a 7-episode arc on the show in 2006, with Hartley joining the series as a regular in 2008. Also serving as a bridge between the two shows would be Nutter, who directed the pilot for Smallville.

Developing a series based on a DC property to succeed the recently departed Smallville was a priority for the CW this development season. “We’re looking next year to do a superhero show if the right superhero comes to be,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said at the summer TCA. In addition to Arrow, the network has in contention an adaptation of Deadman penned by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. This is the CW’s second pilot order this season, following the pickup of mystery drama Cult last week.

Arrow would mark the second pilot order for Berlanti and Guggenheim so far this season. Earlier this week, Fox greenlighted Guilty, a legal drama penned by Guggenheim and executive produced by him and Berlanti. Berlanti, Guggenheim, Nutter and Kreisberg, who serves as co-executive producer on Syfy’s Warehouse 13, are with WME.

Alright, Green Arrow is one of my favorite comic book characters ever, if not my favorite (after reading the "Year One" storyline I've been a big fan, plus his appearances on Smallville and the Justice League cartoon.) But I'm a little worried about this show. Why?

-It's on CW
-The writers/producers did Green Lantern, (which is also one of my favorite CB characters) and it didn't turn out like it should have.
-They're making a lot of changes from the character.

I'm still tuning in, just because I love GA and want it to be great and succeed. Maybe the writers can handle the small screen better than the big screen. More time to build on character and story arcs. Plus Green Arrow doesn't have much baggage like other popular characters do.

I loved Justin Hartley's take on GA in the show Smallville. I almost hoped he'd be coming back to play him, kinda sucks he most likely won't be.

I still can't use this.

So this really is the thing they'd been trying to do this since the Smallville era? If so, it's interesting in that respect, but I'm not one to religiously follow CW shows even though I don't have any particular complaints about them, (beyond them all looking the same). If I catch it after a school day then I'll probably give it a whirl, but it's not on my radar.

Smallville always had 2-3 great episodes, a handful of okay episodes, then some really cheesy episodes. I still loved the show though. :D

Iunno, nothing on CW has really been that interesting to me (I believe Supernatural and Smallville were their "big" shows.) but I think they realize when they lost Smallville, a lot of people stopped watching the network. Guess they're trying to get some of their ratings back. Plus they're not a big network like they use to be (when it was called WB.)

And they tried to get an Aquaman show off the ground (the pilot was included as a bonus feature on one of the animated movies) it was nothing special really. Glad it got canned. Plus Justin Hartley (who played Green Arrow on Smallville) was playing Aquaman. I guess once Aquaman got scrapped they realized they could use him as Green Arrow.

Green Arrow actually takes inspiration from Robin Hood from in the comics, it's a part of his character... He is the urban Robin Hood... XD

I'm totally psyched for this now. Here's the preview!

The island origin parts resemble the Year One storyline, which is my favorite Green Arrow graphic novel. If the preview is any indication of how the show will be, it's gonna be...Boss. XD
