Musical Ability; What can YOU do?

I'll be there every step of the way...
So, I just finished practicing for this part of the day, and I thought I'd start a topic.
Who here has musical ability?
That is, anything from singing, to composing, to playing an instrument, to writing lyrics, to mixing and producing, etc.

Of course, I'll have to brag for a moment.
Personally, I've been playing drums for a little over three years. I fool around with other instruments, too, but drums is my primary outlet. I can't sing to save my life, but I have written some pretty good lyrics in the recent past, and I should really get back to that. I've messed around with things like MIDI Maker, too. Oh, and since my dad plays bass, and my brother plays guitar... FAMILY JAMS.

Well, I play guitar, and have been for a little over a year now. Can't sing worth a shit. I'd really like to pick up some other instruments, like bass guitar, piano, violin, shamisen. I've never actually written lyrics, but I think that if I set my mind to it, I might be able to write a decent song. Despite constantly thinking of my skills as a guitarist as mediocre at best, I've always had a day-dream fantasy of being in a band.

Well, I don't play guitar, bass, or drums...not even keyboard, but people think I'm a good vocalist. I just had a respiratory infection so my voice is coming back, but I will post some videos of me singing. I think you guys might enjoy it. Most of them are vocal covers of Breaking Benjamin. I like to sing "Them Bones" from AiC. I'm also an extreme Slipknot fan so I might just sing Psychosocial. That would be a new one. I will also sing my songs that I wrote.

I will say, though, that I probably totally have the voice to sing an Amon Amarth song. :I

I think the both of you should post some singing videos.

And Zim, a year isn't that long. Keep practicing A LOT and look for some fellow musicians in your area. You might really find a band. That'd be pretty groovy, eh?

Don't tell me what I can or can't do!

I love singing at night keeping my entire family awake. =D

I'm not the best singer in the world, but I don't think I'm a bad one either and am learning how to control my voice more everyday. I also like to play guitar, but I'm going to need alot more practice on that before I ever get to really use it outside of my house. But I love music, and I love performing whenever I get the chance to!

@RidersDX: Just keep on going. I used to suck, but I practice chorus and my high pitch. You can end up like this guy...

I still can't use this.

My greatest musical ability is listening to it, and discerning why I either love or hate particular songs.

But on a serious note, I used to play clarinet, but that was for one very embarrassing school year, and as a result I've forgotten just about most of the intermediate things like the keys and whatnot. I had no passion for it anyway; my parents just kinda goaded me into it. If there is one instrument I'd love to learn however, it'd be the piano.

Or end up like Serj Tankian and ordering coffee at Starbucks...

But in all seriousness, I'm not good at singing, but I'm not bad either. People think I sound more like a mixture of Sevendust and Breaking Point when I use my real voice.

Show...Off

I can play guitar alright. Mainly basic stuff. Nothing too complex from me. XD I took lessons when I was really young, but don't remember any of it. Few years later picked a Washburn V and just started messing around on it.

I can do death metal growls alright too, but I haven't in a long, long time.

I bought pretty nice electronic drum set but they haven't shipped yet. I'm pretty excited about playing them.

The most important meal of the day
@Bliz: i would love to learn the piano, as well. My dad can play, and he taught me very basic things, but that was a long time ago and ive forgotten. I took lessons from this kid i went to school with, but i wasnt learning much from him for one, and for two i got so busy i couldnt go anymore.

As for my musical ability, i've been playing the flute for 7 years. Im pretty good, too, but i know i cant take it anywhere so i never get terribly serious with it, but i do take pride in my flute. Now that i moved, i dropped band, but when i was in band i took it very seriously, because in my old school, band was life, and i loved it. Especially marching band, especially when i tried out for section leader and made it :3

But now, band life is merely a happy memory. I now only practice every once in awhile, because im loathe to lose the ability, and i still love playing the flute.

Let's see... I also can sing a little. Im not bad. I have a pretty good range.

I write songs all the time, and sing them. I have some pretty good ones, too. I wouldnt mind being a songwriter someday.

I would only ever make a video of me singing an Amon Amarth song as a joke. xD

I'm sure I could probably sing a Metallica song or two if I tried. I know I can sing Nothing Else Matters on Guitar Hero: Metallica, but I'm not sure if that counts. :3;c

If I were to attempt to make a band, I know where I could at least find a singer and maybe a guitarist, assuming he's not already in a band. I don't know all that many people, much less people who play music I might be interested in. :3c

Ah, but who knows. With any luck I'll be moving out of state and up north when I graduate from High School, so maybe I'll find more like-minded musicians there who I could make a band with. :3c

Up north, you say? I assume you're in the south as well, then? Because I feel your pain. It's country, screamo, or GTFO around here. Weird, huh? I guess you encounter a sort of musical bias anywhere you go, though. Just gotta find the place you can weasel yourself into.

Yep. I don't mind Screamo all that much, but I really, really don't like country. I hope there are more like-minded people up north. Either way, that's where I think I'm headed after high school.
