The novel was originally published as a magazine serial in 1912 and then brought out in book form in 1917. In the novel John Carter is an American Civil War veteran who is miraculously transported to Mars, known to its inhabitants as Barsoom. He learns that the planet is dying from the loss of its atmosphere and water, and that only a peaceful alliance of its intelligent inhabitants can save the species of Barsoom from extinction. I'm pretty excited for this film. I went ahead and picked up the first novel (It got rereleased.) and can't wait to read it. It seems to be one of the first sci-fi novels written. That alone made me curious about it. Some of the CGI looks abit rough. I kinda expect better from Disney, but as long as the film is good, I'll be alright with it. Plus I like Taylor Kitsch as an actor. Anyone else interested in this? Edited by Vermillion, Dec 29 2011, 01:20 PM.

I still can't use this. Posts: 6,546 Group: Former Monarchs Member #6,722 Joined: March 16, 2008	I have no interest in this film other than the fact that Andrew Stanton is directing it. After Brad Bird outdid himself with MI:4, I'm not putting it past the Pixar giants to deliver the goods. I'll probably go see it if hype mounts up and good word of mouth spreads, but for right now, my mind is on other films for next year... like Prometheus. <3

I have yet to see MI4, I heard it was a lot better than the past films (which I haven't seen.) I think it looks interesting. I'll try and catch it in IMAX if I can.
