Opinions on the Advance series?; Series seems to be overlooked.

Sandopolis Act 1
I was looking through my game library and I found my old Sonic Advance 1 and 2 carts. I noticed how very overlooked the Advance series. I suppose Advance was in the Sonic Adventure 1/2/Heroes/Shadow era. But still, it's overlooked in most talks about recent Sonic games and games of the past. I never really liked the levels of Advance 1 and 2, but the techniques Sonic has in Advance 2 is actually quite large: homing attack, L-R boosting on trampolines, the double-tap forward, Attack with the B button... It has a lot of techniques once I think about it. Most of them aren't useful. The only time you really need anything other than the old run and jump and spindash is the Sky level in Advance 2.
Anyone have any opinions on the Advance series, primarily 1 and 2.

I still enjoy playing these games all the time. I also liked the tag team system used in Advance 3. But oh my god getting emeralds in Advance 1 is hell and a half. And I do think they are a little repetitive of each other.

I object to your claims
Advance 1 was the first 2D Sonic game I ever played. I seem to recall fond memories of it. Advance 2 was great, didn't like 3 so much.

I played Sonic Advance for hours when I first got my GBA, and Advance 2 was even more fun, especially since it was a lot faster than the first one! However, Advance 3 was a disaster...It lost speed, Eggman's robot was just a crappy Emerl recolor, it's way too easy to run into enemies, even in the earlier levels, and the overworld hub just needlessly has you run around to get to different levels, unlike the seamless level progression of the previous games.

Advance was never mainstream enough, in the same way you could also argue that Rivals has been largely ignored.
At least the three Advance games get a mention in Generations, you can unlock music from each title - so if that means more exposure for these great games, then that's fine with me :)

Personally, my favourite was SA3. The levels felt old-school, the music even more so. And it has Chaos Angel, a zone I keep accidentally leaving out of my top 5 favourite levels ever...

I loved Chaos Angel's music, but I suck so bad at it that I could never admit it as one of my favorites... Did anyone love/hate Egg Rocket zone as much as I did? I loved the Extra bosses in Advance 1 and 2! What was the level after Egg Rocket Zone 1? I loved that one, too. I had to hack to get to any of them, though...

I like all of the Advance series. They weren't too bad, but oh god. I tried to get the emeralds in Advance... it's just so annoying and hard. And Advance 2, I haven't even tried, it's so difficult, with the medals and crap. But Advance 3, I have tried. Currently trying to get the last 7th emerald in Advance 3.

But, yeah. I liked how Highspeed Advance 2 was. I ended up playing it At 12 am... Aha. But, yeah they weren't too bad. I disliked Advance the most. Just so difficult, and slow paced and some of the bosses were just too hard. But I managed to beat the game with all characters. So, yeah.

And Advance 2, I beat the whole game too, just not with Knuckles or Sonic..

And Advance 3, I beat the game. now I am trying to get the last emerald.

So yeah, I guess the games are okay. Gives some good memories back, I will admit.

Well, I realized how good the bosses in the portable series were now. All the 3D bosses just don't live up to the bosses in Sonic Advance 2. I loved Sonic Rush's bosses, too, though the final boss in Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance 2 are very similar in idea.
Good ol' giant robots.

The Advance series were just like new age classic. Simple plots, and pretty solid levels. I 100% 1 and 3, and played 2 on the comp, using codes to unlock everything simply because I was lazy. The Tag Gimmick from 3 was actually not half bad, despite I usually went with Sonic and Tails. But it was pretty cool mixing chars to get different attacks and such. I mainly like 2 and 3 for the extra speed you didn't get in the 1st.

Afterimages FTW.
-Sig under construction because the next thing I use will be hilarious-

Never played Advance 1, but 2 and 3 were great. 3 was my favourite though. Tag system and character select was really good (I went with Knuckles and Tails as my main since it got me pretty much EVERYWHERE in my quest to find all those damn Chao). Music and gameplay were really good too. Only thing I hated was Stage 5 (the ice one); THAT WATER, THAT STAGE BOSS, RRRRRRRGH!

I loved the advance series, It's what kind of reignited my flame for Sonic. I had been a Sonic fan since I was a child, but was kind of disappointed in Adventure 2, so I found refuge in the Advance games.

I loved the tag system in Advance 3, it was old, yet fresh to the sonic series, and being able to team up anyone was really cool.

I'll be there every step of the way...
I only ever got to play Advance 3. And I still have it.
Ah, good times...
I think it's a really good game.
I guess it was pretty much my introduction to 2D Sonic other than having played Sonic 1 a couple times when I was like, 3 or 4.
Plus, MMMM THAT ROUTE 99 MUSIC.

Is it just me, or did everyone else fine the SA1 and 2 special stages freakin' crazy hard?

As much as i don't talk about it, i have the Advance series and i quite enjoy it. The way of battling bosses in Sonic Advance 2 is pretty neat. The sequel for me is the best. Advance 1 was too... 2000-Advance like and Advance 3 was kinda long. I prefered the "2 acts" system then the "3 acts one" =3

Agreed, the two act system is what I love, 3 acts always seem too hard or too long. Unless the third act is JUST a boss act. Remember the boss acts in Sonic 2? Ugh.
Wait, Sonic Advance was too '2000-Advance-like'? That's what it WAS.
