What is the difference between a duck?

Microsoft has had a decent amount of good franchises (and also less time to create them compared to Nintendo and Sony) so I don't see why it can't. I wish they'd revive Blinx since that was a pretty fun platformer back on the original Xbox.

I'll get lol'd for this, but the PS3 used the same font as the Spider-Man movie title, so, on a wild guess, maybe he'd be in?

And don't just diss me for this, but think of Sonic and Snake in SSBB.

Just a wild guess, anyway.
Correction.
Spider-Man 3 used the same font.
Technically, PS3 came first.
Wrong, take a good look at this poster for the first Spider-Man movie from 2002, 4 years before the PS3 came out

It seems interesting, but I'm sure if Sony does it Microsoft will eventually jump into the all-star brawl style genre sooner or later.. they did have an arcade game awhile back called Small Arms that was fun and pretty similar in execution.

Must beat faces in with Masta Chef.. I mean Master Chief.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Microsoft one, they do have good characters in their roster even if they don't hardly ever use a lot of them. Some other characters I want to see are Nariko, Kai, Ico, Spike, Ape from Ape Escape, Nathan Hale, Blasto, Chimera, Helghast, Captain Qwark, and Mr. Buzz. Not even scratching the surface on how many characters they could include.

As for the Spiderman font thing, who cares? Sony owns those movies and font. I personally thought it was a nice font. Oh and since Sony owns MGM they could have James Bond in it too!

I'm not dead....just forgotten.
A Smash Bros styled game for the PS3 huh? Well that grabbed my interest for certain. Aside from the confirmed ones some characters I'd like to see are the following:

Ratchet
Crash Bandicoot
Alister Azimuth
Nefarious
Jak
Nero(Dante&Vergil in UMVC3 so yeah)
Spyro
Deimos
Cole MacGrath(with vampire Cole costume choice)
Nix
Ico(Never played the game, but have heard good things of him)
Auron
Jecht
Cloud
Sephiroth
Chrono(not truly nintendo since there was a PS remake and series continued onto PS)
Magus/Janas(look above)
Agent 47(One.Epic.Badass.Killer. So bad he doesn't even use bad words and is always just so calm)

Seems to me like they are just using the 'similarities to Nintendo’s Smash Bros' as a tag just to hype the game up, at the moment the only similarities to Smash Bros is that fact that they have an all-star cast, I have a feeling this is going to turn out to be a standard fighting game in any other regards.

[Note: I'm not hating on this game I'm just stating my opinion based on the given facts. I actually think this has potential to be a very good game.]
That's all Smash Bros is anyway. A standard fighting game(albeit highly polished) with a big all-star cast to give it hype. Although I'd prefer if this game took a Tekken/Mortal Kombat style approach.
Eeehh not necessarily true. SSB is the first to fuse platforming with fighting if I recall.
This. I would hardly call Smash Bros. a standard fighting game. It's more of a party fighter if that makes sense. I don't know. But I never seem to be able to class Smash Bros. as a standard fighter in my head. *shrug*

Also people here seem to assume that something that featured on a Sony console = Sony's characters. If it's a Sony All-Star game simply appearing on the console is not enough to get in. Square Enix is a little tight-fisted with their stuff. Take Geno not getting into Brawl for example; despite starting in a Nintendo game since Square Enix co-worked on it they needed their permission and ultimately they said no. Or so the story goes. Just don't get your hopes up.

Also I highly doubt that movie characters will be making it into this. |P

Agreed. I freakin' loved Blinx. |D

But yeah, I have trouble thinking of Microsoft exclusive characters. Or at least active ones. I had this problem while I was thinking about Street Fighter X Tekken the other day. xD;

Wow, I forgot about Blinx.

You know, now that I think about it, they also have Conker as well.

We all make choices. But in the end, our choices make us
A Sony Smash Bros type game thingy? Hmm. Im not really sure what to say about that. It sounds interesting but it seems like their just grabbing a handful of random characters that have been on a PS console and throwing them in this game from the looks of the cast so far. It reminds me of SEGA and its All Star games. None of the characters look right together. XD

As for Conker, isn't he owned by Rare? I dont remember him being on a PS console.

He's talking about Microsoft. They own Rare now. |P

In that way they could also have Banjo & Kazooie show up for theirs. But that makes what... 5 characters?

I'm surprised I didn't see this one.
What about the Hero from 3D Dot Game Heroes?
I think that would be excellent to see in this Sony Smash Bros.

Hopefully not a Link like copy but still.

I still can't use this.

I feel the same about this near-announcement as I would towards any other company like Microsoft trying it: Part of the success in Smash Bros. games lies in the universal appeal and recognizability of the majority of its cast. The Nintendo franchises boast some of the most recognizable characters not only in gaming but in western culture in general. My own parents together probably know a good deal of Brawl. cast. But they don't know much less give a damn about Parappa, Kratos, or Sly Cooper. If done right, this could probably be a decent hit with Sony enthusiasts, but it's simply not going to strike the same chord. I'm completely ambivalent to it, but it will be interesting to actually see in action.

There are a ton of unrecognizable characters in Brawl. Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pokemon characters being Nintendo's only characters that are known to people not even in gaming. I played the game at a friend's house and I don't know most of the characters and that's because I've never been a Nintendo fan.

Sony may not have a character as widely known as Mario but they do have characters that are pretty popular. Kratos being one of them. I would have said Sweet Tooth 10 years ago but as they didn't bring a new one out every year, his popularity went down. However in the 90s everyone knew of Twisted Metal with the iconic killer clown.

Personally I think it's really down to what your gaming history is and I think you over estimate the appeal/popularity of the Nintendo cast. Most of Brawl, I think, appeals to only Nintendo fans. Plus some of its appeal isn't even from Nintendo characters. Snake & Sonic for example which both have mass appeal outside of Nintendo fans. I feel the same way that this game's characters would only appeal to Sony fans but that isn't a bad thing since it's the same way for Super Smash Bros.

Eh, that's not entirely true. You can show Mario to just about anyone and they'll recognise him. Same goes for Pikachu, Donkey Kong and possibly Link. There are a few series that are a bit more obscure to non-Nintendo fans (Metroid, Fire Emblem, F-Zero...) but it doesn't change the fact that Nintendo still has a huge selection of games to pull characters from; most of which people will recognise from some place or another.

Not that I'm trying to say that Sony's aren't awesome, but more often than not I'd wager someone will recognise a Nintendo character over a Sony one. Assuming they're not particular a huge fan of either company.

I never refuted those characters(I did list Mario and Pokemon characters as being recognizable to non gamers and actually Donkey Kong would be more recognizable thank Link since most people who don't play those games think Link's name is Zelda.....), the fact that they are recognized, or that Nintendo didn't have a big list to select from. What I said is that a lot of the cast on Brawl aren't recognizable to non Nintendo fans. I didn't know where half of them came from which is why I think Bliz overestimates the cast when it's just a few that are known outside of gaming. It's not like people saw Brawl and were like, "OMG I've got to get a Wii for that game" because most of the people who actually care are already Nintendo fans. I know someone who has never played much of Playstation isn't going to look at the game and be amazed either but pleasing the fans is good enough.

Not to be offtopic, I'll state once again that most of Sony's characters wouldn't be known outside of gaming either. A few are very popular amongst gamers though and then you have the obscure ones.
