Man I want to play some games but I just sold my 55 inch TV for $300. Now I plan on getting one tomorrow or Friday, it just sucks not having one tonight. haha

Any tech people know much about Plasma? I was eying a 51 inch plasma which is a great deal. I've done some research on them and I've read they are just as good as LCD and the modern ones are much improved over the first plasma TVs.

I don't pay too much attention to TV types, just as long as you don't get an old CRT, most TVs are good. If I were you, I'd focus more on resolution than size. I love my 19 inch 1440 by 900 much more than my 13xx by 720 TV which is >30 inches. Look at the resolution. Also, You might want to check for ALL the useful ports (Component, Composite, HDMI, VGA, maybe old RF) so you can plug everything in, though most TVs have em all now! I didn't know plasma TVs were so different from the LCDs. What's the difference between plasma and liquid crystal? They all sound the same...

I am getting one that is 1080p. Wouldn't get any less. lol

As for the difference, I don't know. A wikipedia search yields this, "They are called "plasma" displays because the technology utilizes small cells containing electrically charged ionized gases, or what are in essence chambers more commonly known as fluorescent lamps." Interesting, I guess. It also says that blacks are much darker than in LCDs. I really don't care what the type of TV it is though.

We have a Plasma in our apartment so I can tell you it does have a bit better quality (Compared to my personal LCD HDTV) especially in terms of color. And the sound quality on it is also pretty decent (Although most newer TVs have decent sound, I will say it's a lot better to have surround sound). So personally I would go for a Plasma just for that little bit better quality. ^_^

You wanna be careful with the Plasmas for the first 100-200 hours, I have mine set to Movie picture mode since it eases the phosphor in. Lots of them have anti burn in technology but I'd still ere on the side of caution while the phosphors are fresh.. for a tiny bit of maintenance you get by far the best picture quality of any HDTV. Just try to avoid keeping static images on the screen for long, one reason why I appreciated Killzone 3 on the new TV was because nothing on the HUD was static at all.. therefore, no worries. :3

Anyway.. if you're talking about the 51" 1080p Samsung I got from Best Buy.. that's a pretty awesome deal. =D

I'm curious though, what made you sell?

I sold because my TV was a rear projection and I wanted a flat panel. The picture was still great albeit the colors needed adjusting in the settings, but a new TV would definitely look much better.

I got it last night. It wasn't a Black Friday deal but I went at 1 A.M. to try and ensure their stock wasn't snatched up. Took slightly over 2 hours in line but we finally got it. Set it up last night around 4 and quickly went to sleep. Now I have it running and it is SOOO much better than my old one. It is that 51 inch plasma from Best Buy. I got a 2 year warranty with it just in case. Something that expensive needs to be protected from manufacturer defects.

What I thought was funny about how Best Buy priced the TV was that it was even cheaper than the 720p version of the same exact model... I was like "duh fuhh.. oh well I'm not gunna bother asking questions. *buy*"

I didn't even know that, anyone who bought the 720p version was an idiot. LOL The same model with 3D was $250 more. I would prefer it being 3D because I think it's pretty cool in games that utilize it well but it isn't a necessary feature for me.

What settings have you adjusted it to? I like to tweak settings but I never know what is the perfect calibration. I know a lot of it is subjective but some is actually not. I know sharpness is usually needed to be turned down.

I'm honestly not really that big a fan of 3D at all... just kinda seems pointless to me and kinds gives me a headache since it's not as good as the Cinema 3D at this time, so I figured I was fine with a normal ol HDTV.

I usually just have it set to "Movie" mode. I haven't messed with sharpness, I just decreased Contrast and Brightness slightly to take it easy on the phosphor. Occasionally I'll just have it on it's base dynamic setting but only when I feel comfortable doing so, like on certain full screen movies like Halo Legends or when I was playing Killzone 3.

Movie mode is really nice because the picture still looks great but it's great in little to no light (since I turn out the lamps a lot) and is softer on the eyes, so you don't get the eye/headache from looking at it too long. Very smooth.

Wow... I bought a lemon. It died 13 days after purchasing it and now I'm waiting while a company Samsung contracted out to waits on Samsung for parts that are on backorder to come and fix it. Not very happy right now just waiting for parts to get it fixed, Samsung needs to hurry the eff up!!

I could take it back to Best Buy to either have them send it out to get it fixed(which would take time as well) or exchange it and the TV that it is exchanged for isn't covered under the extended warranty I bought, so it pretty much would have been a waste of $100 if I did that.

Man, that really sucks Metallix. I have a Samsung LN40B750 40-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LCD HDTV. It's pretty amazing, especially with a PS3 as a Blu Ray player.

I hope it all works out for you. :D

That's unfortunate for sure, and let this be a lesson, never buy the in-store warranty.. I never do because it's just a huge ripoff.. I've never needed it and even if I ever did, there are so many loopholes that the companies can use to back out of commitment legally.. and even when they don't the way it's set up (like in your case) just makes absolutely no sense.

Well I got it fixed on Wednesday. The repairman came out, didn't bother finding what was wrong, and just replaced pretty much everything. LOL! Still got the warranty from Best Buy. It may be a rip off but I don't exactly trust the 1 year warranty especially since it died so quickly. Hopefully the new parts aren't faulty.
