Note (25/03/12): PLEASE KEEP SPOILERS HIDDEN. Yes, some of us have already read all three books, and others have already gone out and seen this movie, but for the sake of those who haven't done either and are interested, keep them hidden. You can use color codes or spoiler tags, it doesn't matter. As long as it's hidden; that's all I'm asking.

Movie Premise

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Welp, as you can see, a film version of the first book of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy will be coming to theaters next March.

I read the entire trilogy thanks to Kamula-Chan, who had suggested me the first book some time before disappearing from the forum. There were a handful of bleh moments involving the more romantic aspects of the series, but overall, it was a solid read and I very much enjoyed it, so you can bet I'll be watching this as soon as it comes out. |D

Judging from the second trailer, characters, settings and dialogue are spot-on for the most part. District 12 looks impoverished, Capitol is technologically advanced, Effie Trinket and the majority of the Capitol people are fanatics of absurd fashion trends, and then there are Katniss, Gale, Prim, Peeta, Rue, Cinna and Haymitch. Yup- looks awesome.

Break out the L-word. The other L-word.
It looks awesome. Though I'm thinking they may have made Gale and Katniss' encounter with the red haired Avox happen on the day of the reaping, considering the scene in the theatrical trailer with the hovercraft. And I can understand why they would do that to make it fit better. I think the actors for everyone look fine, though Haymitch just looks a bit off to me. Probably the hair. *shrug*

Never really put much thought into what Cinna would look like, but I think that the guy playing him matches perfectly. Katniss, Gale, Prim and Peeta look nice too. And the Capitol voice is exactly like I imagined it would sound like, and the Capitol fashion is the same. District 12 doesn't look like I imagined, but it looks better than what I imagined.

I'm definitely seeing this ASAP when it comes out. Looks freakin' sweet.

District Twelve looks just as I pictured it. I imagine it'll look worse after the bombing that takes place after the Quarter Quell but that was part of the second book, so it should happen around the second movie (and probably shown in the third).

I actually always pictured Cinna as Caucasian, though I like how the actor they chose for him looks. And if he gets the character right, does it really matter? XD

As for what you said about Haymitch looking weird and how the Capitol accent... yeah, I kind of go there with you. The Haymitch's looks off, probably because of the hair, and that was how I figured the Capitol accent would sound.

Rejoice, for bad things are about to happen!
I thought the books were decent. The first was really good, but then I thought the second was a bit to... Romance orientated for my liking... Then the third book was just okay. I typically dislike it when books are made into movies, I think movies usually can't do the book justice but this one looks okay.

When I saw the first trailer, I kind of worried about that, but the second trailer has suggested otherwise, which is why I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. :3

New trailer! Doesn't add much other than a bit about Katniss' interview with Caesar, but still~

Show...Off

I heard it's already beat Twilight for pre-ticket sales, or something.

I do know this will have Breaking Dawn, Part II trailer attached to it... XD Maybe that's why the tickets sold so quick.

This film looks pretty cool though. Somebody I work with told me the books are worth reading. I may wait to red box it. Just depends. :D

You won't get much closer, 'till you sacrifice it all.
Katniss looked seriously different in the movie than how I pictured her... And I don't know. I'm a little apprehensive abot the films, 'cause I don't want them to ruin what was a brilliant book franchise for me. D:

Oh well. As long as Gale and Finnick are gorgeous, I'm happy. c:

Katniss does look different than how I pictured her myself, but I think she still looks the part.

The actress that plays her is actually blonde.

Is the second book any good?

I finished reading all 3 books last year and I really like them and I was pleasantly surprised to see that a movie based on the book is coming soon. I wonder how they will make it more cinematic though because while the books were great the first one was very slow in a lot of places which could bore the audience if not done well.

Here's to HG becoming the next big thing!

YMMV

I thought that, overall, it was better, but the ending is kind of a Deus ex Machina.
