Ok here are my thoughts on Sonic 4. I never bought it because I just was not that interested in it. I tried the demo and I really did not mind the physics, it did not bother me. What bothered me is EVERYTHING I've seen from the game was exactly the same as before just packaged in a different wrapper. That said, what do you expect in Episode II? I personally think Tails and Knuckles will be playable and that the physics will be changed. I think it'll be a very different game in gameplay and style. Sadly I doubt Episode I will be updated making it seem very outdated when the second episode comes out. On a side note, anyone think Sonic 4 should have used the Generations engine? I know they did it in the style they did to appease nostalgia fans but I think the Hedgehog engine is simply much better. |

Hmmm.... A recent ESRB rating suggests that Episode 2 will only be on PC, 360, and PS3. I wonder why they decided to exclude Wii, iOS 3DS, PSP, and Vita? The first one they pretty much whored out to every system. My only guess is that, to focus more on the game, they reduced what it was coming on so they wouldn't have to spend more time porting it. http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/16310/esrb-rates-sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-2-on-consoles-pc Edited by Neo Metallix, Jan 26 2012, 10:18 AM.

I think Sonic Generations is what 4 should have been. Episode I was an alright game, but very short and we have waited a while for II now, so I hope it turns out fine. |

It really wasn't any shorter than the classic Genesis games though and I agree with Generations being what S4 should have been. I hope Episode II looks awesome with its new graphics engine. Episode I just looked weird, imo. |

"Wasn't any shorter" > Spent maybe three hours on the game > Has been at the classics for years yet still has yet to legitimately clear one. Okay. |

That doesn't mean it's shorter, it means it's easier. It is possible to beat Sonic 2 in under an hour. I can do it in just over an hour and the PSN version even has a trophy for clearing it in under an hour. |

Difficulty can very easily add to the length of a game, dude. While you could very quickly beat a game you're good at and have already played through a dozen times already, your initial playthrough for some games can and will add to how long it will be until you actually finish the campaign. I just beat Unleashed a few days ago for a second time after playing for about three or four nights combined.. First time I played through it took me months. |

Sure it adds length by simply having you die and start over but in actual amount of game like zones and what not I don't think Sonic 1 had any more zones/levels than Sonic 4. |

Sonic 1: Green Hill Zone Marble Zone Spring Yard Zone Labyrinth Zone Star Light Zone Scrap Brain Zone Final Zone That One Game: Casino Each game has zones with three acts and a boss barring the last zone. Okay. |

Actually, with the exception of Sonic 3K, all the games are really short. The special stages are what makes it more longer. Like StH and Sonic CD are required to have a certain amount of rings by the end. Could take a while. Just like Sonic 4. With Sonic 4, getting a higher score is also what takes the game longer because people can restart. Now with having Super Sonic the game still takes me an hour or so to beat level by level. Probably because Lost Labyrinth Act 2. All in all, I do hope Episode 2 is longer of a game especially with stuff like non verbal/text cutscenes like Sonic 3 and a Doomsday/Final Fight zone of some kind. |

I don't know if it was just me or not, but it seemed to me like Sonic 2 had an annoying amount of zones to its name. Let's see if I can list them from memory: (order might be off but oh well) Emerald Hill Zone Chemical Plant Zone Aquatic Ruin Zone Hill Top Zone Casino Night Zone Mystic Cave Zone Oil Ocean Zone Metropolis Zone Death Egg Zone Eight regular zones with two acts each and a boss, barring Metropolis, which has three acts. If I got them all listed and calculated correctly, that's seventeen acts and ten bosses in the whole game. Sonic 1 had one more act overall, but had only seven bosses to its name, so yeah. EDIT: OH WAIT. Forgot Sky Chase and Wing Fortress Zone, which I believe was one act each. Don't know if there's a boss in there somewhere, but I believe that makes Sonic 2 one act longer than Sonic 1. Edited by Tammy, Jan 26 2012, 03:27 PM.

Sonic 2 is longer than Sonic 1 but they're both still short games. People complain about paying $60 for an 8 hour game now days(gamers are such disgusting and ungrateful people today) when I got Sonic & Knuckles(NOT S3&K) for $70. Games were shorter and more expensive back then, coupled with the fact that money was worth more too. Just be glad Sonic 4 didn't cost $70.

Oh Jesus Christ you have no idea how glad I am that I didn't have to pay ten times the amount I did for that trash pile of a game. Either way, that was only Episode I. All three episodes combined are bound to be longer than the average classic game, so I think that's a point that we're all missing. |

I'm pretty sure games wouldn't have been $70 back then, Metallix. Especially not in America. I can barely believe that price for the Australian market at the time and we've been getting over charged for as long as I can remember. Anyway, as far as this is concerned Sonic 4 Episode I IS shorter than just about any other classic game (assuming you're counting S3&K as one game, WHICH YOU SHOULD :I). If you want to count all the episodes when they're released as a full game at the end, then it'll probably be longer. But as it stands nope. 'Course it doesn't help that the game itself is kind of bad. I only really noticed this after playing Generations. |

In America and in a vacuum, sure. Games today are cheaper because $60 < $70. In a recession that's piling on top of the middle class's already lowered purchase power due to systemic economic strife, then no; games are probably pricier. |

Metallix is'nt joking about games prices. I paid (or my parents did) about £70 for Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the SNES back in 94 i think... I only got Episode I when it was on Deal of the Week on Marketplace and paid 800msp for it and I was happy with it, but it was a bit easy compared to the classics. Generations at least managed to ramp the difficulty back up. Edited by The Mysterious Man, Jan 27 2012, 03:32 AM.
