The most important meal of the day
|
It's been said and done... Two unlikely heroes destined by fate to meet up and recognize their destinies. Neither knows who they truly are or what their purpose is. But this time, there are some acute differences. These aren't your ordinary unlikely destined heroes. They are special. A lone figure sped across the barren countryside on a high-tech motorcycle, the plain dirt road illuminated by the orange horizon. The serene backdrop was disrupted by the revving engine, which was all-too out of place. This was one of the few environmental settings that were reminiscent of the Old World. But that was the past, and this was the future...or, technically, the present. Earth wasn't the same anymore, except in pleasant country land like this, where summer was quickly coming to an end. Dusk was upon the land, twilight would soon be breaking. Then all that would be left was the cool night. The night was dangerous nowadays, especially for the motorcycle-rider. The bike slowed and made a right-hand turn, following the directions given by a tall wooden sign. The next town would be coming up soon, and soon after that, an actual city. Those were plentiful nowadays, but not near the countryside. The motorcycle-rider was wearing a sleek jet-black helmet that matched the chrome finish on their bike. The helmet had a reflective silver protective shield covering the upper part of their face. But the rider's attire gave away that they were a girl. The rider wore a brown corduroy one-piece shorts suit, with a zippered short sleeve collared top attached. The collars were popped up, either from the wind or starch, and the silver zipper was unzipped all the way down to the pelvic line, revealing a tight white undershirt tucked into thin white undershorts. Her white athletic thigh-high socks seemed to deflect dirt and gravel, as they were still clean, but her almost knee-high brown lace-up motorcycle boots were dirty on the bottom half. One of them was also untied, the laces flapping im the wind. The hands that gripped the handlebars were clad in brown leather fingerless gloves with zippers on them. However, the most interesting item this girl sported was around her neck. It was a thick, solid silver chain, tied taut into a choker. Not even that was the most interesting, however. What made it so interesting was the charm sttached to the silve chain. It was a small, perhaps 1inch long Christian cross. It was encrusted with all sorts of tiny, different-coloured gemstones. Even in the waning light, the translucent rainbows the charm cast off surrounded the girl, and it could be seen from far away. What made it so interesting, was that it was a thing of power. And this girl was, too. Her name was Raeleayn Sivth. And she needed somewhere to shack up for the night, so she headed into the nearest town. Edited by Breakfast Princess, Nov 15 2011, 08:35 AM.

HARD WORK AND GUTS.
|
Meanwhile, at the nearby city, an unusual entity strolls... patrols... wanders... or it would just be better to put it bluntly, is flagging down casual passers by... "Intergalactic super hero Nori here! Do you need my help at all? Or you maybe, ma'am? Or even you do, sir?!" Desperate, almost crazed. At least the girl 'dressed' for the part of someone due for the loony bin. Walking around in an armoursuit, trying to get the attention of the citizens for some unknown reason, it was all going to land young Nori in trouble some day. Though the girl spent most of her time with her head above the clouds, at least one thing did ring true though. She was somewhat of a hero. It's just nobody on Earth knew her tale. Nor particularly cared to hear her story. This baffled her. With all the different planets she'd been to, species she'd met, there'd always be someone in need of assistance. But instead, everyone was just walking by, doing this strange thing with their hands where they cover their faces as they walked by her. "...do they not like Nori?" she asked herself, tilting her head in abject curiosity. The young intergalactic hero wannabe had only recently found herself on this planet after hearing it was the mother-planet of her own race, the Humans. Having spent so much time in deep space, helping out a whole manner of foreign beings, Nori felt it was time to see if her people needed her for anything... or if she could find anything more about herself from them. Though she would only find the planet's denizens weren't exactly receiving of a ditzy space hero crazily hassling them all for either 'hero work' or 'where she came from'. She'd been at that game for the past hour or so now. And now her stomach was growling. Thankfully this was a rare occurrence in Nori, as bizarre as that was. One meal a day was enough to satisfy her. But again, Nori wasn't quite used to the concept of money, having received free hospitality for her good work. Here, nobody wanted to offer her a room or a bowl of soup for lunch. She'd deduced this was only because she hadn't done anything 'heroic' yet but she also had to wonder if humans were just incredibly jaded creatures to begin with. As she strolled away from her former spot, attempting to walk amidst a crowd only for them to split apart and let this unusual girl go by, she thought back to her first attempts at getting food. She didn't quite understand the process of purchasing things and instead walked in, took a packet of cookies from the aisle then strolled out, blissfully unaware of sirens blasting away behind her. She got caught quickly, and her father had to vouch for her being from an alien planet where the concept of money was non-existent. This still didn't mean people would give her free food though. She approached a dingy little corner of the street where a brightly lit noodle bar stood proud. Though it was seemingly unmanned, this wouldn't stop Nori from taking up a stool and looking at the large menu on the back wall. Placing hand to chin, she eyed up all her options as the owner of the stall rose up suddenly, to meet face to face with the girl. Ironically, it was he who would recoil in surprise though. Nori's appearance had that affect. Bright pink hair and dazzling white and red armour. Not the attire of an every day citizen. Still, a customer was a customer and as the man regained composure and took a breath, he looked to the girl. "Whaddya be havin'... girl." he said, hesitating for a moment, wondering if serving her would be a good idea. She didn't stir for a few moments, allowing the patience of the owner to simmer to a light boil, before her face lit up with a smile and she pointed to a picture on the menu. "I want that, the 'Deluxe Miso Ramen Soup'!" she said exuberantly. The man frowned at such excitement over a bowl of noodles but nonetheless, he would have to accept it. "That'll be 3.50 then, kid." he said simply, holding a hand out expectantly. Nori looked at his hand perplexedly for a second before remembering what her pop had told her. She had to hand over 'money' to receive food on this planet. Her father had given her some of the currency used here, something he'd stashed away for this particular situation. Nori plunged a hand into a small pouch she'd recently had tacked to her waist, and pulled out a paper note. She held it out to the man with gleeful pride, a wide grin on her face. The man frowned even more this time, before snatching the note and stashing it away in a pouch on his apron, then pulling out some coins from another. He dumped the coins in front of Nori before turning away from her. "One Deluxe Miso Ramen, comin' up, kid." he said gruffly. Nori zoomed her head close to the coins on the table. Papa mentioned nothing about these. She still snatched them up though. They had the potential to fun little trinkets, and find fun in them she did. She cupped the coins in her hand and began jangling them around. This managed to entertain her enough until the steaming bowl of noodles was placed in front of her. It was a surprisingly well presented dish, especially for a place as dark and as dingy as this city. This excellent presentation had Nori captivated for a moment, something which the old owner of the bar couldn't help but look proud for. "Now can I make noodles or can I make noodles..." he said with equal pride. He placed a set of chopsticks beside the bowl before turning to tend to another customer who'd recently arrived. "It looks so delicious..." said Nori, the rookie connoisseur. Thankfully, she was more familiar with eating processes than purchasing processes, so she was able to take both the chopsticks and rigorously dig in to her meal. The new patron and the bar owner simply ignored her piggish eating, but she wouldn't have cared if they did. This was tasty and that was all that mattered... |

The most important meal of the day
|
As a passing thought, Raeleayn completely sped past the small town. She had bad experiences in the past with small towns not unlike that one, and she didnt figure she wanted to revisit said memories. Instead, the girl zoomed right into the nearby city, which wasn't too terribly far, seeing as her teched-up bike made quick work of the trip. Now, when Raeleayn took long, uneventful trips on her bike, she liked to slip into her own little world, thinking of the past and the future. Nothing too happy, nothing too sad. When Rael was alone, in her mind, she was free to think about whatever she wanted, or nothing at all. Unfortunately, Raeleayn was soon robbed of that freedom. What jolted her back to reality was a painful reminder of her own humanity: hunger. Fortunately, Rael rather enjoyed eating, plus she was in no bad mood, as bad moods usually rob the girl of her appetite. Furthermore, Rael had finally reached her destination. She found it rather aggravating that she had to slow down considerbly, almost to a rush-hour crawl. The city was not large by any standards, but it certainly was the largest around, also it was over-populated and busy. Poor Rael had to zig-zag around other vehicles and pedestrians at low-speeds up and down the cluttered streets; a difficult thing to do while trying to maintain balance. Fed up, Raeleayn finally found an escape from the mad traffic as well as an outlet for her hunger. A dingy little food bar, humble at best, sat in a nook of a side street. Having been on the road since sunrise the previous day, Rael was tired and couldn't stave off her hunger for much longer. She hopped off her bike while it was still moving, almost jogging beside it, until it finally stopped. Out of habit, Rael revved the engine twice before finally guiding it to a wall, putting down the kickstand and turning off the engine. She took off her helmet, shaking her long wavy tresses free from their reinforced plastic prison. As usual, her hair looked relatively good for having been stuck in a helmet for hours, but her bangs were matted to her forehead. She quickly finger-combed them straight. Since she wasnt going that far, Rael left her helmet unattended on the seat. Raeleayn walked away towards the food place, twirling her keys around her finger and engaging the alarm system with a click. Her bike responded with the faithful beep beep that let her know the alarm was armed and ready. Rael slid into a seat and pondered over the menu. She had never really experienced any food of that nature before, but it did smell quite good. A man who was presumably the owner was busy chatting it up with another customer and didn't immediately notice Rael. Rael glanced at the only other customer there at the time, and did a double-take. This girl had the faddest threads Rael had seen in awhile, and she was just sitting there like it was nothing. Rael respected her for that already, as she respected individuality. Finally, the owner turned to Rael. "What'll it be?" he said gruffly, though not unkindly. "Uhh... Just gimme what she's got, please, sir," Rael asked politely, gesturing towards the other girl's meal. Rael handed the man the money and he turned away. Raeleayn looked at the other girl again, a curious eyebrow raised. She looked like she might be close to her age, possibly. "Hey, that's a pretty awesome get-up you got there. And that hair is wild. I like it," Rael said monotonously, though she did favour the other girl a half-grin. Edited by Breakfast Princess, Nov 18 2011, 12:43 PM.

HARD WORK AND GUTS.

Nori would slurp away at her noodles for a moment more after the woman presented her question. But despite this second she'd taken to carry on eating, she still looked at her with a mouth full of noodles. Though the girl had at least taken the basic manners lecture and finished her mouthful before opening her mouth to speak, sparing Rael a mouthful of noodles her way. She took her final gulp of noodle soup for now then smiled brightly towards the fellow customer. "Thanks! I don't know where I got these clothes though, so I can't tell you where to get some yourself!" she said with a bizarre level of enthusiasm, seemingly ignorant of the lack of enthusiasm that Rael was showing. "Though I guess you can put a pink flower in your hair if you want to try and get hair like mine?..." she said to the woman, but landed up asking herself a question. She had no idea about hair dyes, so it left her wondering if hair colours were something you could never change. The only way to do it would be to cover your hair in something else with a different colour. Nori gazed up for a moment in thought before staring hard at Rael. She imagined the girl with her hair completely covered in pink flowers, attempting to compare herself to Nori. It didn't look quite right. She stopped her stare to introduce herself to the woman. "My name is Nori! I'm an intergalactic space hero!" she said proudly, offering a hand out in greetings. Though the hand was adorned with a strange glass sphere, with mechanical parts within, it was still a hand nonetheless. She kept it out expectantly, hoping now was the time she'd make a friend. Her first earthling friend, anyway. |

The most important meal of the day

Raeleayn's dark yellow eyes widened slightly. Her food arrived, but she was slightly perplexed by Nori, and didnt immediately notice. "You're about here," Rael said, holding her hand high above her head, "at 11. I need you to bring it down to about a 2." She lowered her hand to the countertop. Rael was rather low-key herself, and Nori's overly-enthusiastic energy was blowing her hair back. "An intergalactic super hero, huh?" Rael said. "Well what in God's name are you doing in a place like this?" Rael gestured around at he dingy eatery and the not-so clean city surrounding them. "Or for that matter, what are you doing on a planet like this? Havent you heard? Earth is perhaps the worst planet..." Rael took a bite of her noodles, chewing in contemplation. She swallowed before adding: "Well, besides Mercury. I hear it sucks pretty bad over there." "Yeah, I've done some minor hero work myself. Nothing major. 'S not like I get any recognition though.." Rael added, a note of bitterness hidden under the monotony. Rael looked at Nori's outstretched hand, but didnt take it. She wasn't trying to be rude, she was just sort of a germ freak and she was eating and didnt want to have to sanitize some more and who knows where that hand's been and-- Rael flashed her a peace sign instead. "Pleasure to meet you. My name's Raeleayn Sivth. But since I'm a stickler for pronunciation, call me Rael." (Normally Rael doesn't talk so much. But I'm just trying to get the ball rolling. Once it does she'll have periods where she won't talk hardly at all.) |

HARD WORK AND GUTS.

Seeing the woman not take her hand but instead gesture oddly, Nori tilted her hand and stared at her palm. Was there something on her hand? It didn't look like it but then she realized that what the woman did must've been a sign of greeting here on Earth. She proceeded to make the peace sign pack, a bright grin across her face, knowing she'd finally gotten through to one of the Earthlings. But now she had to answer those questions she'd had flung in her direction. Turning back to her bowl of ramen, she picked it up, placing it to her mouth and slurped up the soupy remains. Finishing with a pleased gasp, she put the bowl down again with a noticeable thunk, ready to explain her little tale here. "I've travelled around a buncha planets! All up there!" she gestured, pointing upwards toward the stars. "I've helped lots of people out but nobody's told me where I actually come from. I've met walking talking animals, alien races, even space robots but they've all told me that I'm a'human' like the people on this planet." she said, an increasingly solemn tone taking over. "The home planet of humans. Earth. Everybody here is different to me though." "I wanted to see if anybody needed help here. Hopefully I'd find out who I am in the meantime. But neither of those options is looking likely." she began stooping into a mutter, a grumble, her head over her bowl. Before any sort of 'depressing moment' could set in though, Nori looked back up to Rael suddenly, again with a wide smile across her face. "What sort of hero work have you done, Miss Rael?" she asked inquisitively. She seemed to have completely forgotten about her own situation though... |

Rael let out a short laugh at Nori's attempt at a peace sign. She then listened as she ate, an amused smirk on her face. At one point, however, a shadow fell over her face. She looked blank now, her line of sight diagonal and in front of her. "If I were you, I would be neither quick nor proud to call myself human..." Rael intoned, her voice largely monotonous yet with a hint of cruel assuredness underneath. "Humans are largely selfish, relatively dim creatures; with power lust that would calm any beast's hunger, and such self-centered sense of being that it has it's own gravitational pull. Worst of all, humans lack a sense of right and wrong. We always take the lesser-blamed of two evils," Rael chuckled through her nose, a brief exhalation of air that held no humour. Rael paused, pushing her unfinished food away. She suddenly had no appetite. So as not to insult the owner, she left a $5 tip underneath the bowl. "I save people from their sins, and rectify their undoings before they come back to haunt them." |

Nori couldn't help but let that former smile of hers stoop into a frown and then an upset look soon followed. This girl was explaining why the humans had been so mean towards her. They only wanted everything for themselves, they wouldn't let anyone get in their way. But this collided with Nori's wishes. She wanted to help other people, just to further herself and discover herself. For a moment, she thought to herself, wondering if this Rael girl knew anything about her and thought up a few more questions worth asking, but then the woman bought up a point that... only presented more, different questions. "Saving people from their sins? Do people do bad things here? I want to stop people from doing those bad things!" she said, the obvious naivety behind her voice. She lent up close to the woman, a determined and serious expression on her face. Rael had opened up a can of adventure for Nori and she intended to dive in. "I want to save people from their sins too!" again, Nori resumed with the high levels of enthusiasm. Her extreme levels of expressionism had changed now from sadness to pleading. |

Rael, still a little bit in her dark, sour mood, grimaced slightly and backed up. "Once again. You are here," she raised a hand, "at a 10. Bring it down to a 2. Please. Oh, and I know for a fact that most humans value personal space. I am no different." Then Rael sighed, rubbing her temples for a second before folding her hands on the countertop. "You can't do it. It takes a special person to do what I do. Honestly I don't even think that I'm qualified," Rael said, sounding tired. She was getting pretty tired. Suddenly, Rael gripped her chest, wincing. She looked at her cross charm... Now it was glowing, but not as brightly as it was before. It was as if the colourful light was piercing through Rael's flesh and straight into her heart. And that's what it felt like, too, and it hurt. "Ah... Now?" Rael grimaced, looking around at her surroundings. She took in the sights: the dingy city and all the people. "Yes, of course here. This is prime breeding ground for them.." Rael muttered, talking to herself. She then seemed to remember that she was in company. "I have to handle this," Rael said urgently, popping up out of her seat and running to her motorcycle. She threw her helmet on haphazardly, then started the bike, revved the engine, and peeled out. She had to screech and make sharp turns down the street to avoid pedestrians and cars.. But something hit her. It came from her blind spot and came with enough force to swerve her bike off the street. As Rael struggled to regain control, she got hit invisibly again, and this blow knocked her off of her bike. "Augh!" Rael cried as she flew into a dark alley and rolled, her bike falling over meters away from her. Her helmet got dislodged and rolled away, but that was Rael's fault for not securing it with the buckled strap. Luckily she was unhurt. Rael quickly got up and discovered what was pursuing her. Of course, she wasn't suprised. By the way her cross charm was glowing (and hurting her), she knew that demons had to be near. Hovering at the entrance-way of the alley was a slightly-transparent, deformed, black energy mass. It was loosely shaped like some nightmarish creature with long sharp claws and an empty, gaping mouth. Vertical red slits of eyes stared intently at Rael. Rael grimaced, but didn't let any negative emotion show. Demons feed on negative emotion. "Hm. You're not even a real demon, are you?" Rael spoke to it. It roared at her with impressive force. Rael backed up a step but maintained her poker face. "Just a demonling. I can take you." |
