Personality: Kari has the disposition of your typical skater chick. She absolutely despises wearing anything that doesn't look 'cool' to her (i.e. Dresses, etc.). She is not a girly girl and doesn't take shit from anyone. And she especially doesn't take orders from anyone. If she is ordered to do something she may take it as a suggestion and more than likely will ignore it. However that doesn't mean she isn't a nice person. It just means you don't want to mess with her or try to piss her off since your next destination may or may not be the hospital. In a fight you want her on your side especially if you want a tactical advantage. Kari is an analyzer and can easily devise a tactic for victory in a matter of seconds just by surveying the surrounding area. When she's not out and about she can usually be found just chilling at her apartment listening to music and tinkering with small magic devices.

Biography: As a child Kari was always a well gifted individual with talents and skill beyond those of her peers. Her parents doted over her non-stop from day one. Her father was invited to go on a top secret expedition. During this he went missing without a trace and contact with the team had been completely severed. This was two days before Kari's 5th birthday. The news of his disappearance caused Kari to go insane and she was placed in a psyche ward for treatment. During this time she saw visions that inadvertently triggered a mental collapse and sent her into a coma. This was only two weeks after being admitted into the ward. After entering into the coma she was taken to the hospital and put on life support. Within her subconscious she underwent several trials and fought with her own mind to regain control and to awaken anew. During this she stumbled upon a hidden part of her mind that unlocked abilities that had been written into her genetic code (it wouldn't be until after waking up that she would find out that her ancestors on her mother's side had used these same abilities but these abilites had been sealed away until someone worthy of using these abilities would be born). Magic flowed through her veins and from this she was able to overcome her mind and release herself from the coma. When she awoke she found that she her body felt completely different than last she had used it. She soon found that while she was in a coma 13 years had passed. Even though she had been in an almost vegetative state for so long her mind had undergone a complete rewrite. Her mind was now capable of understanding, retaining, and retrieving information with relative ease, even if she had only read something once. Because of this she was regarded as a walking encyclopedia.

As for her magic it didn't surface completely until after her 20th birthday. During a trip to Europe she went off on her own and stumbled upon an ancient ruins. She had been on a small boat taking a leisure sail when her boat was engulfed in light and disappeared from the surface. When her vision cleared from the bright light she was situated in a large underwater cave. Within the cave was a large structure that seemed to be an altar of some sort. After stepping off the boat she made her way up to the top of the altar. At the top was a large sphere that seemed to have swirling energy inside of it. The energy changed colors creating a full-spectrum of illumination. As she stared at the sphere she collapsed into her mind as she was lifted into the air by some mysterious force and suspended there. Within her mind she met an old woman who told her of her abilities and explained how they had become a part of their families genetic code. Long ago there had been a civilization that had taken refuge within underwater sea caves and used spheres much like the one at the altar to transport themselves between caves, thus creating an intricate network of caves that could be traversed in mere seconds. The old woman also explained that there had been spheres on the surface but it seemed they lay dormant. However they could still be activated by filling them with large quantities of magical energy.

The old lady said her farewell and Kari woke up on her boat's deck. The boat had already been teleported back to the surface. She remembered the old woman's teachings, which seemed far too simple for them to actually work at first, and put them to the test. She focused her mind and was able to create her first Magic Missile, which burst in mid-air and dissipated. After that she tried the move several times until she was able to keep into a perfect sphere and make it hit a target (which was an empty barrel in the cargo hold).

When she got home she found a package on her desk. After opening it she found a large leather bound book with several intricate markings forming the shape of a phoenix with two sphere's that had trails in their wake swirling around the phoenix. Inside, just past the front page she found a letter addressed to her from her father.

"If you're reading this then I am probably gone from this world. I hoped you wouldn't be the one but deep down something just felt different about you. I only got to spend a few years with you but I hope you know that I love you very much. I didn't want to tell your mother that this expedition would be far more dangerous than the others. My team and I found a rather peculiar sphere in an underwater cave just west of the Grand Canal. We are going to try and study it, despite my warnings of the dangers that it could pose. My guess is we probably ended up going missing without a trace and because of that I am deeply sorry. Tell your mother that she will always be in my thoughts.

Tears rolled down her face after she had finished reading the letter and after wiping her eyes she went to studying the book. Some of it seemed like gibberish while other parts of it were very easy to understand. Her current skills were gained through her research and she now keeps the book in a safe. From that point onward she began doing freelance work and odd jobs to give herself practice and to test out her magic.

Moves/Combat Style: Magic-based attacks including mid to short range attacks. Also proficient in hand-to-hand combat.

Skills:
Ranged attacks:
Magic Missile (B)- No spell components needed. Fires a ball of concentrated energy at a target.

Fireball(B)- Upgrade to MM. One fire crystal per shot required. Same as MM except with a burst of flames on impact.

Ice(B)- Upgrade to MM. One Ice Crystal per shot required. Same as MM except has a possibility of freezing the target.

Shock(I)- No spell components needed. Can only be used three times in the course of one hour. Creates an electrical charge from static elecricity and releases it in one direction causing arcs of electricity. Can be charged for a single attack that counts as three. When charged it can spread from one target to another if there is more than one target nearby.

Void(A)- Creates a small rift which boosts the users abilities so long as they are within a one-hundred foot radius of the rift. Requires Ten Dark Crystals per use. Rift lasts for approximately one minute. Void can only be used as a last resort tactic (i.e. Stamina is low, Battle is too tough, etc.)

Close-Combat attacks
Burst Strike(B)- A Magically charged punch. Can knock back target.

Flame Strike(B)- Same as Burst Strike except the punch is surrounded in flame and has a chance to burn the target at the impact point.

Frozen Strike(B)- Same as Burst Stike except the punch is surrounded by a lingering frost that has a chance of freezing the target at the impact point.

Lightning Fist(I)- A Quick Motion attack that can be executed from a mid-range distance. The user quickly dashes towards the target and pummels them with quick punches and sending small electric shocks through their body. The more hits the user gets in the bigger the electricity builds inside the targets body. Can cause paralysis. Has a knockback: The user is hit with some recoil based on how much damage was done to the target. Recommended as a quick finish move.

Void Fist(A)- Requires Void to be active and consumes Twenty Dark Crystals per hit. Similar to Lightning Fist in terms of execution. Can Burn, Freeze, or Shock opponent (Effect is dependent on previous attacks: i.e. Burning can only be done if the last "effect attack" was either Fireball or Flame Strike.) Attacks are stronger and deal more damage however once all Dark Crystals are consumed the attacks become normal punches.

Strengths: Quick-Witted, Sharp-Tongued, and Strong-Willed.

Weaknesses: Perfectionist, Quick-Tempered, and Claustrophobic.

Well finally have an update. Completed the backstory (or at least the main portions of it). Decided to make her another one of the Harine family tree for simplicity's sake. Not much has been changed other than the addition of a backstory. ^_^
