Sandopolis Act 1
|
I love hack and slash RPGs. They incorporate all my favorite elements from games (The strategy and leveling-up from RPGs) and the live gameplay from action-adventure games. My favorite Hack and Slash RPGs so far have been Digimon World 4 and Chantelise. Anyone got some hack-and-slash RPGs they'd recommend? I've played .Hack, KH, Rogue Galaxy, (Musashi) got any more? Preferably for PC? |

Don't suppose you've tried the Dynasty Warriors series? They are really quite mindless hack and slash games but they do have some RPG elements to them (You level up your characters and can equip various weapons) They even come in Gundam flavour if Anime is more your thing. |

Hmm... Dynasty Warriors looks great, but it also seems like a Series that is large and expansive... I guess Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 is one I might try as I haven't seen or heard anything Gundam related since like 2002. I'm not too much for western or medieval Hack-and-Slashes like Elder Scrolls, and I've started to dislike the bland and overused art styles of Monster Hunter-esque games that have risen since the 360 and PS3 era. (Personally, I have nothing against the MH series, but I as a person cannot play it without getting a headache and throwing up due to some past circumstances by no fault of the game itself.) I rather liked Secret of Mana, though it feels a bit lacking. ...Wait a second, who are you? Eevee? Oh man, I forgot to mention Phantasy Star Online (Episodes 1 and 2)! Never got a chance to play online, but the game is awesome in single player! (Though quite difficult) Edited by Fwiss, Oct 26 2011, 12:40 PM.

MAAAN, I liked Phantasy Star Universe, too! But nooooo, it just had to break every time it climbed into *looks around for Metallix* my 360. I never finished PSO because my friend took it back, but I would like to try the online play. Rusty Hearts, Elsword, and Grand Chase are all MMOs, though. I did play Perfect World International once upon a time... I can never get myself to trust MMOs. I've been hurt so many times. T_T. Edited by Fwiss, Oct 27 2011, 03:21 AM.

Flying Battery Act 2

One of my personal favorites is the Onimusha series, especially Onimusha 3 and Onimusha Dawn of Dreams on the PS2. The first two games in the series are more like Resident Evil with samurai, while the last two (mentioned above) are very good in their own right as action games. Onimusha 3 also has one of the wierdest, quirkiest, and yet most intriguing plot ideas I've ever seen in a video game. Demons in Japan from the year 1582 discover time travel and invade 2004 Paris, France. You play as two people who are accidentally swapped from their correct time periods. Samanosuke Akechi from 1582, and Jacques Blanc from 2004. Sam gets lots of cool swords, while Jacques runs out of ammo for his guns pretty quickly in 1582 and ends up using mystical whips instead. So basically you just battle demons like crazy across both time periods to suck up their souls to power up your weapons, and it's a real blast. |

Well, I did get some more, but they are not for PC: - Odin's Sphere. RECOMMENDED if you have a PS2. It's a side-scrolling action-RPG with lots of Hack and Slash elements. Compelling story and lots of playable characters. - Nier for PS3. It's kinda eh when it comes into "Beauty" especially coming from Square Enix. I dunno if you'll get into this though. - Musashiden (PS2), recommended. It's basically the sequel of Brave Fencer Musashi for PS1. And lol, Rusty Hearts isn't that bad for an MMO, but the system requirements for it are excruciating. ;x |

Damn, I HAD Musashiden, too! Well, at least SONY still keeps support for the PS2 years after the PS3! Why is it I always thought Odin's Sphere was an old D&D DOS RPG or an almost as old mouse-based Windows game? |

What about the most notorious? The Legend of Zelda series? Great hack and slash, I wouldn't call them that though. Emulation is your best friend. |

The Diablo series is a roguelike hack-n'-slash made by Blizzard (the creators of the Warcraft and Starcraft franchises) that you can play either alone or online with a group of friends. Really fun series that you should try. Incredibly gory though. |

Diablo always seemed mouse-based to me, so I'm wary of trying to play it. From the gameplay videos, I always though you got near enemies and prayed for the best... |

Actually, I've played Diablo II before, and it requires a little more strategy than that. A lot of enemies will eventually kill you off if you rely on melee combat, so you have to think about which enemies would be more useful to take out first, which enemies to use spells on, and which skills would be most useful to your character to unlock first on your skill tree. It can also be sort of a tetris-like challenge trying to fit the items your enemies drop into your inventory, and there are also hotkeys that can allow you to quickly access different menus and abilities while you're in the middle of battle. Quite, the Diablo series can get really intense, especially when your playing alone. You will definitely have trouble dealing with some of the later areas of the game if you just blindly charge in with no strategy and aren't prepare for the worst. Despite what people might think, Diablo does take skill. It's just a lot of people online tend to play in groups so they can cheat by letting others do all the killing for them. |
