PS3 owners with Sonic Unleashed...; I have a question for you.

Hey, just a question out there for all you Sonic fans who have Sonic Unleashed on the PS3.

Did any of you happen to notice any framerate issues while playing the game? I played through the 360 version personally and had no problems at all, so I was wondering if the PS3 one ran just as smoothly.

The reason I ask? I'm currently in the process of trying to decide what system I'll pre-order Generations for and I'm having a bit of trouble deciding. I'm leaning towards the PS3 side of things but that nagging worry about framerate issues is lingering in the back of my head. From what I've seen the PS3 has been notorious for almost always being the system that has framerate lag on multi platform releases. I can only think of one game off the top of my head where it's been better off than the 360.

Basically I figure that if Unleashed ran perfectly on the PS3, then I shouldn't have any problems with Generations on it. But if I can help it I'd really like to avoid such an issue if it's there.

Thanks in advance to those of you who take the time to offer their thoughts on this~

I've never had any issues with it. The only time I think I might have had framerate issues was when a whole lot was going on in a side mission in Adabat over water, and even then I didn't really notice.

I've noticed a bit of it when there were a lot of enemies in Werehog stages, but nowhere else, though I've heard Adabat has framerate issues in both versions.
i'm actually really sorry bout this

What is the difference between a duck?

The 360 never had any frame rate issues ever with Unleashed.. as far as I can remember it was smooth through all of Abadat and during Werehog game play. Honestly you can get it for whichever console you want, it's going to be the same game for the most part on either console, the only advantages or disadvantages coming from the console integration in and of itself, since PS3 won't have the party chat functionality or the ability to play your own music to the game. Completely unsure if there will be frame rate issues on the PS3 version but if it is as "notorious" as you say it is, I would ere on the side of caution. The only PS3 games I own are Killzones 2/3, MAG, and Heavy Rain.. so I wouldn't know.

The only games I buy for my PS3 are ones I can't get on the 360. Partially because I prefer the one system and partially because I know that there isn't going to be crap like GB updates on the 360 version that leave me staring at a loading screen for some time when I would really prefer to be playing.

I still can't use this.

There is definitely slowdown in the 360 version. You'll find it primarily when the game forces close-ups on the Werehog's fur, cut scene or no cut scene, when there's lots of enemies on screen, and transitions from water to forest in Jungle Joyride Day, as well as that stage's water effects. There's bit of it in Eggmanland too. The most devastating of these instances is definitely during Jungle Joyride where the frame rate can fall dramatically to something stupid like 15fps and basically turn into a slide show for a brief second. Note: the optimization issues weren't fixed between either version, however the PS3 version is capped at 60 fps instead of the 360's 30, meaning these drops are going to be far more noticeable and game-breaking in the PS3 version.

But ultimately, it's rather foolish to judge one game's hardware performance on prequels. Not every single problem will necessarily translate between games, depending upon the people working on the game and the development cycle, and Generations has been well-developed. But I will tell you that I've played both Classic and Modern GHZ on both the 360 and the PS3, and instead of slowdown, there was input lag on the PS3 version like you wouldn't believe, making timing jumps and Homing Attacks a chore. This was completely absent from the 360 version. But of course, this was an older demo. Look around the Internet to see people's impressions on the newest demo for either version, or read the actual reviews that are cropping up for the final version.

But again, don't judge Generations' hardware performance based on Unleashed. That'd be like expecting Secret Rings to have 30 second load times because Sonic 06 did. =P
