I still can't use this.

Do you guys want your kids to be made fun of?

Normal names are different because you can't trace their origin without someone telling you, (like Marcus for Marcus Fenix, although I can imagine high schoolers being a bitch about the fact that their classmate is named after a stupidly designed game character if that info was ever divulged to them). But Zelda? Really? Why not name your little girl Cream while you're at it?

tl;dr- I would never look to games to name my children. They deserve better. =|

Well, I said I wouldn't mind, not that I was actually going to. ^^;;

Although, I don't know how it is in the States, but around these parts I;ve heard a lot of strange names. Neftmarie, Merlivette, Grimes (yes, as a first name), Usmail, Keishla (this one's super popular around this parts), Ninoshka, Daridier... and the list goes on with even stranger names (most of which I won't type because I don't know how the heck to spell them). I've yet to see anyone around these parts, child or adult, to complain about such names.

If I called a girl Kairi, knowing the people here, they would probably say something like "Oh, like Kiara but with the i's and a's inverted?" or "You mean, like Kari, but with another i in there?" Don't know what they'd say about Roxas, though. *shrugs*

Of course, that's not to say I'd name my kid Sonic or Link. XP

If I was ever to have children, I'd name them some pretty unusual names.

Dunno about naming them specifically after video game characters though, since the games I play don't have any really good, obscure names.
i'm actually really sorry bout this

Pssh kids have been named a lot worse. And why does Zelda sound so odd? Ive heard of plenty of other people having that name.

Some people name their kids the stupidest shit. These names aren't really that bad.

I like interesting names anyway. Ive even thought of naming my kids names like Rain or Ivy (And I have met a little girl named Ivy. Its a bad ass name.) I would really not like naming my kid something so generic like "Ashley" or "David" or "Beth". But whatever. I wouldn't laugh at a kid with a weird or interesting name. I would just think their parents were pretty kewl. :P

An odd name makes you interesting. Even Twos name is awesome. Who wouldn't want the name Talon? That's just bad ass. ^_^

Imagination doesn't = Good if it gets your kid ridiculed. You can give pets awkward names because no one cares what a pet is named and the pet itself cares even less than that, it just recognizes the name as a callsign to some degree.

Children aren't pets, and trust me.. if you stick them with a crap name, they will likely change it the first moment they're given the opportunity. I hate parents that name their kids stupid crap like "sunshine bee" or "greenwoodland" e.t.c. and naming someone blatantly after a videogame character or giving them an improper name just because it's a video game character's is just flat out dumb.

You only get one chance to live. Most people live those lives without ever realizing it.
Well, we have enough common sense not to call them anything like that. But it was actually pretty fun thinking of video game characters for names. If I'm going to name my kid anything, it'll probably be Nick, or Mike. Or it might be Jack, but with a 'C' in it. |P

Indeed, odd names are interesting. My name is freakin' Nikodemos Alexander Hansen. How many times have you seen someone named that? Truthfully, I don't want to name my kids something generic like Bob, Thomas, Allison, or whatever. It's plain and boring. And like you said, an odd name is usually an interesting name. I am not talking about naming one of my kids some weird ass name like Hubert Blaine Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff. But I'd like to name my kids something totally unique and cool, even if it's odd. I mean Rozalin for example (or Rosalind depending on how people translate names). Seriously, I swear. How many people have you heard been called Rozalin? It's a badass name. I mean the really generic names I picked were John, Alma, Meryl, Katherine, and Jane. Only because I really like the characters. But that's it. I want my kids to be unique individuals, not faceless people in a crowd like so many people act like today. And names are a part of being an individual too, they should be unique rather than bland and overused...

And on the subject of Zelda. Robin Williams' daughter is named Zelda. Just to point that out. That's right, everybody's favorite comedian named his daughter after a video game character too.

...I might consider Clayton as a possible name also for one of my kids too simply because it sounds badass.

Robin Williams also makes man-media love to Neon Genesis Evangellion.. he's an oddball and that's what makes him fun... and his kid, odd name or not.. will always be part of the "cool" or "accepted" crowd by default just by virtue of her father.

Well then, that's their decision.

Also, calling someone "Greenwoodland" is not the same as naming someone after a video game character. Usually characters don't have word-mashup names.
