Super Monkey Ball is a well known SEGA franchise. But, what do you think? Is it any good? Is the series "too cartoony" now?

Break out the L-word. The other L-word.
I used to have (I might still have it, actually) Super Monkey Ball (2?) for the Gamecube (I doubt it was for anything else |P). I basically grew up on that game so it's impossible for me to say I don't like it. |P

I haven't played any of the newer games though. And I don't know what you mean about "too cartoony". It's about little chibi monkeys that roll around in balls. Yeah, the styles different, but it's a cartoony game to begin with so it doesn't really matter if it gets "too" cartoony, I suppose.

Although admittedly, I really don't like how huge their upper lips are in the second picture.

For The Circle
The party games are nice for when friends come over, They got creative with incorporating the balls, I'll give them that.

The actual Super Monkey Ball games however, I can't say I'm a fan of. They were nice, but there's a fine line between enjoyably challenging, and frustratingly difficult, and the game broke that line. Eventually it became so hard, it just wasn't fun anymore.
