Wow, really? It seems for EVERY Nintendo system, once it becomes older, they just remove BC like it doesn't even matter. Hmmmm.... Well I don't see the point because it's not like they were losing money on it.

With GameCube BC being removed I am thinking that game stores like Game Stop and other "new gen" stores will stop caring about GC because the system is no longer in production and the Wii JR. is removing BC so that isnt good :\

Not just Nintendo systems. It's typical of all systems. PS3 removed support for PS2 games, etc.

Sigh. I really hope this doesn't become like the annoying GBA/DS shit, where so many people whined that they removed it. It's time to move on. Just get your old one and use it to play games. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but yeah, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Anyway, as for this, I could hardly care. I don't need a newer Wii model anyway so I doubt I'll get this. I can plug in the GC if I do anyway, just like I do with every other old console. Can't expect a console to support everything.

The PS3 is an odd ball, it was removed because people demanded a cheaper PS3 and showed that they would rather have a cheaper PS3 than a more expensive one with BC. PS2 never lost its PS1 BC(even PS3 still has that) including the ones that are STILL selling on shelves now. I don't see the 360 dropping their Xbox support either.

Personally I really wouldn't care since I never used BC on my PS2 or PS3 more than a handful of times but I just find it odd that they would be doing it this late in the game.

Heh...
It's funny because I play more Gamecube games on my Wii than I do VC and regular games combined.

Meh, I don't really care. I already have a Wii that still has BC anyway so this hardly effects me.

It seems this is going to follow in the footsteps of the DSi XL. Nintendo says "Here, have a remade console with slight changes and just pretend a completely new console isn't coming out next year. Tee hee we're so clever." It's a last attempt to squeeze some more cash out of their current consoles before the new ones are released.

Although I can see how this deal would appeal to the "casual" gamer. One who wants to play games with their family and friends only, and doesn't care about which games are truly better, nor do they own or have any interest in playing older games or using alternate control schemes. They just want to play the newer games with their friends or on "family game night" or at parties, and aren't serious about keeping up with single player games or older ones because they don't see the point in them, or do not have the interest or time.

...who cares?

tbh i wouldn't think most people just now buying a wii give a toot about backwards compatibility. if it's cheaper to manufacture, and presumably to sell...well then what's the big deal?

if someone really wants to play wii and gamecube games, you'll probably be able to get a gamecube for whatever the difference between this and the regular wii would be.
or you could, y'know.
just buy the old wii.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I don't think this is a problem. I was just saying what I think the reasoning and audience behind the console are. I didn't mean it from a negative standpoint. Sorry for the confusion XD.

Okay maybe it doesnt matter that much. But bc was a special part of the console. I remember playing SC2 on my friend's Wii. Now i'll never get to experience it for myself.

I still can't use this.

Why not just buy the older model? Wiis are and always have been cheap as hell.

Its a smart move, really. Since Gamecube games aren't being made anymore, and having BC costs more, their just saving money.

The Gamecube's abandonment and subsequently GC games not being made anymore is the exact reason that prompts backwards compatibility. Plenty of people don't throw away their old consoles the moment their shelf life is done and wait for the next iteration. They want to keep playing older gems, an BC is a huge way to cater to that audience and keep them around.
