Director: Rupert Wyatt
Writer: Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Cast: James Franco, Freido Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, Andy Serkis
Release Date: August 5, 2011

Synopsis

An origin story in the true sense of the word, Rise of the Apes is set in present day San Francisco. The film is a reality-based cautionary tale -- a science fiction/science-fact blend where mankind's hubris leads to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. Oscar ®-winning visual effects house WETA Digital - employing certain of the groundbreaking technologies developed for "Avatar" - will render, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.

Five Reasons Why You Should See This In Theaters:
Spoiler: click to toggle

While Transformers 3 surpasses a billion in B.O returns, the first Planet of the Apes film I thought actually had some potential has been rather cruelly dismissed by the online community. Despite my annoyance with these facts, I too lowered my expectations some after watching some online clips, afraid that Caesar's character arc would be handled haphazardly.

I'm glad to find out that I was completely wrong: That was one of if not the most engaging and thoughtful films I've seen this year, better than Super 8; hell, I almost cried at certain moments, over mo-capped apes no less. Better yet, it's made over a fifth of its budget back in two days without the help of more profitable overseas markets. Sequel is a go-go.

Doubtful questions, but has anyone else seen this yet? If not, has any of this convinced you to at least give it a try later?

The most important meal of the day
I've been wanting to see this ever since i saw the review in theater a while back. I saw both versions of Planet of the Apes only once each. I saw the remake a long time ago so i barely remember it. I saw the original last year in english class. They both freaked me out, but i've been looking forward to seeing this tke on it.

Currently attempting to return.
I've never seen the movie "Planet of the ape" but from the trailer, it sounds like an interesting story. I just hope they don't make human look like idiots and actually show a good reason for we to lose.

The reason we lose makes so much sense and is foreshadowed so well from the first act. I'm still impressed by that tangent of the story, probably more than I should be.

We all make choices. But in the end, our choices make us
Saw the movie the day after it came out. I must say, I was very impressed. Sure was close to shedding some tears in a lot of scenes. You could just feel Caesar's pain through the whole thing. The ending wasn't what I expected but I was pleased nonetheless.

What is the difference between a duck?

I'm looking forward to seeing it once I get the opportunity, Cowboys V. Aliens currently tops my SEE list but Apes is right behind at #2. I've got free tickets for a couple movies, just gotta wait for both films to become available to free pass regal entrants.

I'm pretty excited about this one. The trailer is so good! Too bad it comes out 18th of August here, and that's when I'm at a festival. I'll probably watch Planet of the Apes beforehand.

An interesting featurette I ran across. This is a primary source of my appreciation for the film, the motion capture techniques used and just how close the animators got it. Also, I think it's just fun seeing the side-by-side comparisons of Serkis and Caesar:

Once the monster has his fun
Take heed, it's not too late

Though you have regret, you can't just forget
You alone decide your fate
