Directed by: Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.
Genre: Horror
Release: October 14th, 2011
Synopsis:

Prequel to the famous 1982 original cult horror film by director John Carpenter, the Thing (2011) takes place three days before the events of the original film.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and her two assistants Davida Morris (Davetta Sherwood) and Adam Goodman (Eric Christian Olsen) join a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across a crashed extraterrestrial spaceship buried in the ice of Antarctica. They discover a creature that seems to have died in the crash eons ago.

When an experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate, Adam and Davida join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing and imitating them one at a time, using its uncanny ability to mimic any life form it absorbs through digestion, and potentially reaching civilization.

Trailer:

Alright, now with that all out of the way. What is my opinion of the film? Well... I am mixed, one part of me hopes they get it right. Another part is wanting to kill the person responsible for making it, and another part of me wants to get tickets for it already. I am a big fan of the original film, and to see them taking attention to it now after nearly thirty years, both makes me praise them for giving notice finally and hate them if they butcher up a classic tale of horror epic. I liked the original Thing for well... 'The Thing' of-course. A perfect shapechanging eldritch abomination from another world that can replicate itself, the sheer horror of something mimicing someone close to you until its too late and you wouldn't even know it... because they are THAT good. And being stranded out in the wilderness with one of these creatures picking off your buddies one by one is just sheer bone-chilling. I hope they get this film right...

So... now onto you. What's your opinion of the film?

I've already decided I'm going to see it so I'm not going to watch the trailer. I like going into films I want to see totally blind to anything beyond the basic concept.

However, there's something I'm concerned about. It sounds like it's going to just be the first movie again but with the Norwegian team you see at the start of the first movie. I really hope there's something planned to keep things fresh, but it doesn't look like there would be much room for that. And here's to hoping they try to stick to animatronics rather than going for CGI. The magnificent animatronics (even by today's standards) really helps the film be great to watch even today.

They said they are trying to keep CGI to a minimal as much as possible, they want to use animatronics or an actor in a suit whenever they can get.
