The fourteenth Pokemon movie will be featuring Victini, Zekrom and Reshiram as many (if not everyone) probably expected. Now the interesting twist to this was that --probably to avoid having Ash choose between his ideals and his truth-- there will be two versions of the same movie. That's right, two versions. The plot, main story and characters remain the same, however, each version has several differences, some of which include which Unova dragon teams up with Ash and which teams up with the antagonist (who, sadly, isn't N), the premise, the antagonist's Psychic Pokemon, a particular Shiny appearance, the soundtrack, and some of the battle sequences amongst other smaller things. So far, only the Japanese versions of the movies are out, which are titled Victini and the Black Hero: Zekrom and Victini and the White Hero: Reshiram. The reason I'm posting this was because it really caught my attention that they would go through the trouble of making two different versions of the same story. But beyond that, I'm wondering what will they do with the English dub. Are they going to translate each movie separately or will an edit-happy dubbing company try to merge them somehow? Any thoughts? Complete movie summary/synopsis (in other words, HUGE SPOILERS; click at own risk) |

The only major thing that really sticks out to me is which legendaries goes with who, to Ash or the villian. Otherwise, the small things with the same overall story, I'm not sure why they would make two versions of the same movie. Maybe if they have different outcomes, it would make sense but hmm. Or am I missing something. I've long lost interest in the Pokemon anime and movies, so I'm not sure if I'll actually have the motivation to see this. But seeing two versions is different, so maybe. |

The outcome remains the same, so yeah. Like I said, same story, two versions. Not sure why they do it, don't know if it was worth the effort (I suppose the money they make out of this will determine that for them), but it caught my attention in a way no Pokemon movie had for years now. Which is why I'm thinking of giving it a shot. |

What other movie was it that did this trick first...? *pinches the bridge of his nose* Hrrrrm... Well, anyways, having alternate versions of the same movie hasn't happened in cinema for a while, so I guess it almost counts as an original gimmick. ![]() Though, Ash having to 'choose between his ideals and his truth'... That's definitely a theme that I've seen somewhere before, practically verbatim I might add. *lopsided grin* |

The fourteenth movie? Good lord. Well, Ill most likely won't see it (them?) when it comes to the states. I was done with watching the Pokemon movies after the one with Celebi. Lost interest in the franchise as a whole really. |

Well, him having to choose between them is what having two versions of the film avoids. The whole 'ideals and truth' thing only comes in play in the movie as part of a legend or a fairy tale or something. |

So... same outcome, but two movies? I don't get it. Which one is supposed to be Ash's real choice? What's the overall difference? This is still pretty confusing to me.

Well, when it does get dubbed, I kinda of think whoever dubs would be foolish to merge the two movies. Just milk the money by releasing both? Kinda seems interesting having two different movies, but I mean that's gotta be expensive to make two movies with similar plots, just different legendaries/choices. ^_^; |

It's not really that hard to get. It's the same movie, except some sequences are different, and a different dragon teams up with Ash in each version. That's all. @SSG: That had crossed my mind at some point, but I guess with the money they make from the die-hard Japanese fans who decide to pay to watch both versions at the movies, maybe it's not that big a loss. |

Hm, an interesting thought. Usually most of these things involve Ash peacekeeping between Legendaries and/or having them all team up with him against a greater threat. Anyways, I guess I'll give this a look when it comes out. If I have to go with one or the other it's the one with Reshiram. But otherwise I guess I'll watch both. *shrug* I don't really watch the Pokémon Anime as much as I used to, but I have made a bit of a habit to watch every movie up to this point. They are somewhat predictable nowdays but I still enjoy them anyway. I'm pretty sure this won't be able to compare to the story for Black & White though. xP |

Then I still don't get why bother make two versions with rather minor differences. Seems like a cheap way for money. =/ I'll probably only wound up watching them if Cartoon Network shows them in the end I think. Edited by Fenroar, Jul 17 2011, 04:44 PM.

It's gonna be hard to choose since they have basically two ways of one story. Doesn't that confuse anyone in here besides me? |

It's not really that confusing. It's just like the games: it's the same story, but the dragons are swapped. That's the essential thing to it. |
