I was wondering if there ever has been a discussion on schizophrenia. You know what? Even if there has been, I dont care, cause it hasnt been in my time. What I do care about is people sharing their thoughts on this mental illness. I have done some research, asked some friends and coworkers and even doctors. But I was hoping maybe I could hear from people who know someone who has it, or perhaps even someone who has it themselves. Yes, I am schizophrenic. I dont like talking about it in real life but I dont see the harm in discussing it here. Especially with people who have it on different levels than I do. |

Part of me has actually wondered if Schizophrenia is a disease/defect and/or a higher level of sensitivity to stuff. If you recognize the voices can you put a face to them? I've always wondered if the disease is either a higher sensitivity to people's thoughts, or maybe to ghosts (I do believe in them but I don't want to go too in depth there) or possibly it's something closer than a Siamese twin.. where in truth there are two personalities within one body, one that is dominant and one that is repressed that can both communicate, and you find it familiar because it acts as some sort of active vocal subconscious.. like maybe there was supposed to be twins or something but the cell division or whatever never happened properly to create more than one child. All of the above beliefs are an odd way of looking at it but to be honest, it's not like anyone knows for sure what's going on regarding it, and you know when you're crazy.. the schizo's I've known before didn't appear of anything but sound mind from the time I knew them.. so I seriously believe in the possibility that two personalities for whatever reason, can live within the same entity (unlike Split-Personality where there are 2 personalities but when one is "on" the other is "off" this is like two personalities constantly active), or if the "disease" is just the development to a higher sensitivity that puts you on a bandwidth of sorts to communicate with things that the majority of us can't. If anything.. looking at it like that may make living with it a little easier to cope with... as treating the voices as coming from either yourself, or others (albeit alive or dead) HAS to sound better than "I'm insane and making up voices and talking to them." |

It appears schizophrenia can be developed by otherwise unaffected people by drug use. Without legit citation, I heard Vietnam veterans have developed schizophrenia. Of course, I suppose they don't disprove your theories/thoughts. I used to think it had to do with ghosts during my 4 - 6th grade depression streak. Now i think it may just be a slight variation with sensitivity to something a little more tangible. But the siamese twins thing... Methinks you've been watching a bit too much House. |

I'm glad I found this topic, cuz I've been wondering (but not willing to tell any1 about it that could help) if I mite b a skitzo... I hear voices sometimes, mostly just people calling my name. The voices are usually of people I know, and sometimes it fools me into thinking the people are actually calling for me. Sometimes when I'm thinking bout something I'll get an answer, usually a simple yes or no, from a voice that isn't there. They don't really have conversations or say much. Am I skitzo or just imagining it? |

Well, everybody has voices in their head occasionally. Maybe schizophrenia is just a higher level of it. Especially hearing people call your name. I wonder what schizophrenia would be like for somebody who never learned language. Or a bilingual person. Or a deaf person, but that was in a C&H comic. |

Pertaining to you incomplete twin thoery/idea/thoughts, what if there are two voices? Do you think that means that "they" were going to be triplets? I'm not sure if this was faked or not, but I saw a documentary- claiming to be true- about someone who had schizophrenia and had 23 different personalities which could pretty much be accessed on-command. What do you make of that? I find your thought to be very interesting, and believe that there is a chance they're correct. |

I'm not big on talking about family matters or my actual life away from the comp, but... I can't say I know anyone myself. I have wondered if my father is though after taking a look at this topic or if it's something else. He has on rare occasion talked to himself, having conversations with someone. I only began noticing this I would say in the past year though, and as I said it seems to be once in a blue moon. And he seems to talk to possibly me when I overhear him. And I don't see him all the time, so I wonder if he does it for that reason... or if he does it more frequently than I realize because I don't see him all the time. Just recently, maybe a couple months ago, I walked out of the kitchen and found him talking as he walked out to the kitchen himself and he stopped and started talking to me. My mother seemed to notice this rarely happening too, but I never asked her. I have never talked to him about it either. I dunno what I would ask or how he would react. I have schizophrenia, and the "voices" I have listed in my sig are just the main ones. I have other voices that just pop in at random times, but those seven are the only ones that actually have a face and figure put to them. Schizophrenia is a mental condition that causes hallucinations. These hallucinations are usually voices, but for me they have form that appear to me when I close my eyes or look at one thing for a long time. They aren't malicious ever and usually just talk to me and give suggestions or, in the case of Demon, insult people. They are friends, but I almost never tell people because some may think they are fiends. |

@Japas - Well.. I hope that there wasn't someone somewhere that was about to have a batch of 23 babies, that was just somethin I was thinking about.. who knows, maybe there are different types of Schizophrenia like Type A and B or somethin like that where different people have different results that translate into different voices coming from different places. I really haven't the slightest clue, I've always just liked to brainstorm. |

Yes, that is always very fun, although I think your ideas may possibly be right, maybe with some difference. Thank you for sharing  @ Theodore - I think I speak for the Sonic Blast community when I say that you shouldn't be afraid. I haven't known anyone on SB to be judgemental, and some members offer some really useful advice. So you said you see figures that own the voice when you close your eyes. Are they detailed and realistic looking, are they silhouttes, or do they look like a cartoon or something similar? What do the Demon and Goop look like? About the whole "schizophrenia resulting from drug use" thing, *i dont do drugs.* The most marijuana ive been exposed to wouldnt be enough to make me cough, let alone develop a mental anomaly. In some of the sources ive researched, they have said that traumatic events can result in schizophrenia, though sometimes it ties in closely with that other illness-- the Post Traumatic somethingoranother Syndrome. As far as i can remember, i havent had any SEVERELY TRAUMATIC events occur in my lifetime, and the slightly more traumatic ones happened after i had already been diagnosed. As stated above, shizophrenia comes in different levels of severity and intensity. Ive experienced lots of these levels. Honestly, sometimes the voices have been... Well... Very pushy. And its not a pleasant thing to go through. But thats just one of the levels. Another level i read up on is sort of severe. Reading more and more about it, i recognized it immediately. Sometimes schizos can slip into catatonic states. Thats happened to me once. It was an extremely stressful situation that caused it and i dont really remember anything until i came through. All i know is, the two people who were with me and caused it were extremely worried. About the whole "ghost" speculation, i think it COULD possibly be possible... But honestly, ive experienced what ive thought to be paranormal activity, and this was just not the same. But im not sure. The whole "dual personality" thing is actually spot on. Though i do sometimes hear several voices, there is one in particular who seems to be much more than a voice. @Theodore: thats very interesting that you have so many like, actual characters and personas manifesting themselves within your psyche. That must be in-SANE! But yes, no one's gonna judge you. Can you please tell a little bit more about that please? Im interested. Edited by Breakfast Princess, Jul 19 2011, 06:52 AM.

The figures look realistic, but I'm unsure how realistic since I have nothing to compare them to. All the names I gave them are based on what they first appeared to me as, except for Ed. Demon looks like, um, this, but red, with bat wings, and with less bite and more bark. Goop looks like a blob of liquid darkness with a glowing outline, sort of like an eclipse. Owl looks like a snowy owl, but is streamlined like a hawk. Cube looks like a gray scale Rubik's Cube without the lines. Mouse and Sloth are self explanatory. Ed is a guy, and the only description I'm going into on him is that he doesn't look like this. As for how they act. Owl is usually soft spoken, but when he speaks it's always logical and well thought out. Demon angers easily and will insult almost anyone. Mouse talks a lot, is always happy, and is a glass half full kind of, erm, person... I've never gone into this much detail about them. "Voice" is fine with me. So, and a glass half full kind of voice. Sloth speaks slowly, is pessimistic, and disproves of everything. Cube tries to help me succeed in any way he can. Usually by pointing things out and giving moral support. Goop just goes about reading down a never ending list of ways I'm failing at everything. Edward is just like a best friend that's always in my head. They know when to be quiet and when they can speak up. If I'm talking to someone they usually stay quiet unless one of them wants me to say something. When it's quiet or I'm alone I'll sometimes have conversations and all out debates. I prefer it when I'm alone so I don't have the risk of juggling 2 conversations at once. Sometimes they will get into arguments and I have to try and settle them down or else I get a migraine. Other times I'll just listen to them talk. So, yeah, it does get crazy at times, but I don't mind, and I rather like it. @ZombieCakes: I'm insane. |

No no no sweetie youre not insane. Just unique. It's surprising that you have so many entities manifesting themselves as voices in your head (thats the best way i can describe them). And you can SEE them?! That'd freak me out. I only have one voice that manifests herself, the others just remain voices. Idk what to call it or how to explain it. When talking to the doctors, she was the only aspect of my mental illness that i didnt tell them. Shes been kept a secret from everyone except for 3 people, myself & my 2 closest friends (oh, & my friend's mom, i told her too). |

It's interesting how people can be so uniquely different, it gets to the point where you'd love to step in their shoes for a day or two. That's kind of the state I'm in. Question: Do the voices vary in gender, or is it hard to tell? |
