I was wondering if there ever has been a discussion on schizophrenia. You know what? Even if there has been, I dont care, cause it hasnt been in my time.

What I do care about is people sharing their thoughts on this mental illness. I have done some research, asked some friends and coworkers and even doctors. But I was hoping maybe I could hear from people who know someone who has it, or perhaps even someone who has it themselves.

Yes, I am schizophrenic. I dont like talking about it in real life but I dont see the harm in discussing it here. Especially with people who have it on different levels than I do.

I don't have schizophrenia nor do I know anybody who does- at least, I don't think I do. The condition/disease greatly interests me, although I haven't done any research on it. So if you wish to, then feel free to talk about your experiances of it, or how it plays a role in your life. You at least have an audience of one.

One of my friends, his name's Nikolai, has schizophrenia. I asked him about it once and he said he hears voices in his head calling his name, most of them voices he recognizes. Usually when we're in town with him he'll keep looking up at us cause he think one of us is calling his name but we're not. We just tap him on the shoulder if we want him, though it's driving him crazy. He pulled a chunk of his hair out a year ago in the night because the voices kept him up.

That's my experience with schizophrenia. Other than that, I have no idea of schizophrenia's capabilities. If you feel comfortable sharing, what are your experiences with schizophrenia in your life, Kittycakes?

I never liked talking about it in RL because I was always afraid people would think im crazy. Only 2 unprofessional people know (my best friend and my other best friend who also happens to be my ex-boyfriend) and theyre too close to me to think im crazy.

But since none of you people know who I am, then what the heck.

Okay let's see...
I do indeed hear voices. Most the time they arent "trying to get me to do something" as some of my fellow schizos claim, mostly theyre just trying to engage me in conversation. Ive been told to ignore it, which I do if im around people. If im alone then i'll talk back, im not exactly sure why. Sometimes they can be insisting, or the conversations interesting. I never recognize the voices though.

That probably happens to Nikolai as well. Man i could never imagine what it would be like to be in your shoes. Do you find it annoying, enjoyable, e.t.c?

It can be annoying when im trying to sleep, or when i ask it to stop or go away and it doesnt. Or when im with people and I get the actual conversations mixed up with the fake ones. But I wouldnt exactly call it "enjoyable", perhaps just tolerable.

Well yeah, that's what I meant to say. It's like any other disorder in that you just have to deal with it, not that you can't embrace it. ;D

@Silv: yeah thats pretty much all I can do.

@Japas: honestly I dont know. Random stuff. If im upset they'll ask me whats wrong. Stuff like that. Sometimes they make me realize there are choices I have to make in certain situations that I wouldnt have realized before.

That's really interesting. Do they tell you stuff you didn't know, or just things you didn't think of?

If the voices are conjured up from one's mind, I'm sure its just stuff in the back of their head, or something they've at least thought about before.

My mother has schizophrenia, along with most of the people on her side of the family tree. Also, my grandmother from my father's side also has recently been developing into a schizophrenic. I don't know if I personally have it, but I might possibly have it myself, if not now, I will most likely experience it later in my life.

But I do tend to act crazy, but that is mostly because of my incredibly over-active imagination.

Schizophrenia is an issue of varying degrees, in some cases it's not too serious. In fact, it can actually be a helpful thing. However, then you have even worse cases which endanger both the person suffering it and the people around them. And I believe a good treatment to this is by talking with someone who understands it also. So, I am all for this topic.

@Japas: yeah its not exactly stuff I didnt know just stuff I wouldnt have realized if they hadnt brought it up, you know? Kinda hard to explain, I understand if you dont get it, I kinda dont either...

@cA: youre absolutely right, it does come in varying degrees of severity, a lot of that even depends on how the person with the condition responds/reacts to it. And im glad youre for this topic because I dont just want to talk about me me me, (though I dont mind haha) I also, as stated in the OP (i think?) wanna hear from others who have it/know someone who does, etc...
How is your family about coping with it?

Various ways on my father's side. But on my mother's side. Most of them die as insane rabid people who have lost every fiber of their sanity. Except my grandmother on my mother's side. Who died a religious nut. And my ancestor General Robert E. Lee who died of a stroke, and was never schizophrenic in his life.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I was related to Robert E. Lee.

Wait JUST A SECOND here. The few people who have schizophrenia on this forum are the ones who DON'T have multiple personalities in the forum?
Sorry if that sounded offensive. Are the voices just random ones or do you relate them with someone you know? Or are they too vague to really be given a technical voice?
Anyhoo, my support is behind you, especially on the part of it keeping you up.

Back on topic, though, it seems like marijuana can lead to/helps the development of schizophrenia. That fact's not really very relevant or useful, but fun. I've had a bit of personal experience with mental disorders since my friends have ADD, but they still get 98s on our easy NC Geometry EOCs. I don't really know where to go with this.
