The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra
Whoa! I was curious to know the voice actor of Sokka in the original series and I came across this on Wikipedia. Since it's known as a 'non-reliable resource' I decided to look up official announcements on the series. UGO! wrote an article revealing that the creators of the show will be showing some stuff off and making an announcement on the spin-off series at Comic-Con 2011.

According to the Avatar Wiki, the series will premiere in the summer of 2012 on Nickelodeon.

Taken from the Avatar Wiki:
Quote:

The series is currently under production, and is expected to run for 26 episodes.[1] The co-creators of the original series, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will personally write all of the episodes to allow for a tighter storyline.
The new series will take place 70 years after the end of the Avatar: The Last Airbender story arc, with all-new characters and settings. The protagonist of the new series, Korra, the next Avatar after Aang, is a hot-headed and rebellious young woman from the Southern Water Tribe who is "ready to take on the world". The series plans to follow Korra as she faces an anti-bender revolt while mastering the art of Airbending from Aang and Katara's son, Tenzin.

Korra is a rebellious 16 year old girl from the Southern Water Tribe. As the Avatar, she has already mastered Waterbending, Earthbending and Firebending. She will learn Airbending from Aang and Katara's son Tenzin. The primary and only confirmed setting is Republic City, a "metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology" such as cars and motorcycles, "inhabited by people from all four nations". There are Anti-Benders in Republic City who are strongly against the art of bending. Here, Korra must deal with rampant crime and an anti-bender revolt.

Me personally, I loved the Avatar series. It was great. Unusually complex characters, especially for a children series, is what surprised me the most. I know there are bound to be SOME people on this forum who are interested in this show. So, what do you all think? Will this spin-off series be any good?

Part of me thinks they're taking a risk by having this story take place so far into the future. I think it would've been prudent to set it 4 or 5 years later, but I digress.

Based on the information on this post, it seems like it may be a decent successor to the original Avatar.

I never had the chance to watch the original series, mostly because I haven't watched all that much television, and when it was on I didn't pay that much attention to it. Having only watched a few episodes of the original series, and I am ashamed of doing so. Now, I intend to catch up on the ENTIRE series before this new spin off comes out.

As for the spin-off itself, I think it sounds good so far. I really love Korra's design so far, it's simple and nothing too special that makes her look too distinguished. And she also stands out in a way that works with the former. As for how her personality and character will work, I do not know. We will have to wait until it actually debuts to find out.

This is a delicate proced -- Oops
Ooh. Ooh. I heard about this some time ago, and I've been looking forward to it. The writing on the original series really impressed me the first time around. There's a nasty little voice in my head telling me that this won't be able to compare to the first series, but I'm trying to ignore that. What I've seen so far looks very solid. I am excite

Personally, I think it works better this way. The original story is done -- they told the story they wanted to with those characters. Putting it this far ahead gives them a chance to evolve the world and do things they weren't able to try the first time around.

I had read about this a couple of months ago.

Personally, I loved the cartoon as well as the idea of a continuation, even if it's 70 years into the future. |D Bring up new good times, please~

Eeeehhhh, I'm not sure about this. I mean, I loved the original series, but I just feel uneasy about the spin-off. Like nothing's really grabbing at me.

The new avatar however looks pretty fierce looking though.

Looks promising. That pic's of Korra? Looks (and sounds, from hearsay) like she's related to Sokka.
Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk.

She does, though if she were, I think they'd mention it.

If she's the new Avatar, won't this mean Aang is dead in the series?

That is usually the case. Hence why she'd be taking her airbending lessons from Aang's and Katara's son, rather than Aang himself.

Yep. Aang died around 50-60 years later after the series ended, dying early due to a long-term effect of being in the iceberg for whatever years I think.

You know, this is kinda off-topic, but I was looking around on the wiki and noticed The Last Airbender 2?!? Directed by Shyamalan again with the same actors? Eeehhh.... I can't believe that. I would like different actors at least....

Well, it shouldn't be all that surprising. The story takes place 70 years after the end of the first series.

I heard about this rumor a while back, I think with a teaser image?

I think it has potential, I liked Avatar -- despite not watching a lot of it and watching episodes that were far past what I had watched when I last did. I find it alluring that the story will pick up way in the future and I think it's a good choice instead of milking the original cast in a new season.

I don't know where I'm going.
Not sure if anyone cares, but looking around the Wall Street Journal, I found an official cast listing with voice actors. The voice actors for The Last Airbender was great, but this time around I feel that the creators are going all out with this casting.

Taken right off the Wall Street Journal:
Wall Street Journal

Janet Varney as Korra
Kiernan Shipka as Jinora
Daniel Dae Kim as Hiroshi Sato
David Faustino as Mako
Seychelle Gabriel as Asami
Lance Henriksen as Lieutenant
P.J. Byrne as Bolin
JK Simmons as Tenzin

Don't ask me who any of these characters are. I only know of the voice actors. It's definitely an interesting cast. There's also a rumor with voice actor of Zuko, Dante Basco, will be returning as a character in the series that has some sort of connection with Zuko. It should be interesting.

I do not have any doubt in the writers of this series so I'm confident that this should be a hit. I personally am very excited for this spin-off series coming in mid-2012.
